Chapter 16 Yuan Xue

Yuan Xue understood the head of the family's thoughts. She wanted to use her granddaughter to solidify her position in the Yang family, so she took the initiative to suggest that her granddaughter marry into a poor family. After the child was born, she would take the child back to the Yang family to raise. That way, the child would become a member of the Yang family.

The head of the Yang family also somewhat agreed with this statement.

Now, Yuan Xue overheard several women from the Yang family discussing Yang Yao's family. The Qi family was progressing steadily, though not in large scale. Their children and grandchildren were all quite talented, mostly ranking at the second rank.

The Qi family's fortunes are on the rise, and Qi Zhiheng's good aptitude lays a foundation for the child's future. Most importantly, the Qi family is small and easy to control; even if they were to take the child away in the future, this family would only be able to offer him up with trepidation and gratitude.

Everything met Yuan Xue's requirements, so Yuan Xue immediately went to discuss the marriage between Yang Yiqian and Qi Zhiheng with the mistress.

Seeing that the Qi family was indeed quite good, the mistress agreed to the marriage and even sent one of the family's stewards to accompany Yuan Xue to Butterfly Stone Town.

In order to get things done, Yuan Xue had no choice but to force a smile and say, "Zhiheng should be thirteen this year, right? He looks very elegant and handsome."

Qi Zhiheng secretly rolled his eyes. He had just seen the woman's dissatisfied expression. It was too insincere to use such perfunctory and clichéd words to praise her.

Qi Zhiheng rolled his eyes inwardly, but he knew that Yuan Xue was not someone to be trifled with. He replied humbly, "Madam Xue, you flatter me. I, Zhiheng, do not deserve such praise."

Yang Yao also said, "My sister-in-law is exaggerating. My grandson is usually very naughty and can hardly be considered a promising young man."

Yang Yao and Yuan Xue exchanged a few words, but Yang Yao finally steered the conversation to the main point: "What brings you here this time, sister-in-law?"

Once the topic was brought up, Yuan Xue wasn't annoyed. In fact, she was too lazy to chat anymore. She smiled and said, "Zhiheng is already thirteen years old. I wonder if he is married now?"

Yuan Xue had already sent someone to inquire about whether Qi Zhiheng was married or not, so this was just a token inquiry. Even if Qi Zhiheng was already engaged, she had ways to break it up.

Yang Yao said, "Zhiheng is still young and has not yet settled down. We cannot rush this engagement."

Yuan Xue said, "Sister Yao, you're mistaken. It's always better to arrange a marriage as soon as possible, so that the girl won't be picked by someone else. I think my Qianqian and Zhiheng are about the same age and are a perfect match."

"Sister-in-law, you're joking. How could my grandson be worthy of the Yang family's daughter? I'm afraid even if we talked to the matriarch, she wouldn't agree." Yang Yao was a little puzzled. She didn't understand why Yuan Xue would bring up the marriage between the two families. Back then, when she wanted to marry Qi Dong, she faced strong opposition from her family. This time, however, she was trying to push the girl into the Qi family. Yang Yao really couldn't figure out the reason.

"Sister Yao, you are overthinking it. The mistress has already agreed."

"It's a blessing that my cousin-in-law has taken a liking to my grandson. However, Qianqian hasn't met Zhiheng yet. My grandson is just average in many ways, and I'm afraid he might disappoint her." Yang Yao was naturally unwilling to settle the marriage without a clear understanding of the situation.

"Sister Yao, are you making such a fuss because you look down on my granddaughter?" Yuan Xue was a little annoyed. She had already gone to great lengths to marry her granddaughter to the Qi family. The Qi family should have happily agreed to the marriage as soon as she proposed. It would be a great blessing for Qi Zhiheng to marry her granddaughter. If it weren't for Qi Zhiheng's qualifications and the Qi family's elusive fortune, she wouldn't have bothered coming to this rural place.

"How could that be? Qianqian is a good girl, and I like her too. It's just that I can't make a decision about this marriage on my own. How about I discuss it with Zhen He first, and then give my sister-in-law an answer?"

Seeing that Yang Yao had given in, Yuan Xue's attitude softened considerably. "That's only right. You all discuss it, I'll go back to my room first." After saying that, she left with the middle-aged man who looked like a butler, leaving only the Qi family behind.
