Chapter 164 Calm
If I were lucky enough to return to my world, I would never be afraid to go to amusement parks again.
When Xiao Qing opened her eyes, her consciousness was blank for a few seconds.
She quickly got up and, with the faint light shining down from above the cave entrance, saw where they were.
This must be a burrow set up by hunters in the mountains to hunt large wild animals.
They had gone downstream, and when they reached the shore it was pitch black, they couldn't see anything clearly, nor did they have time to see what was around them. Now that they were in the cave, and hadn't been captured or killed by the men in black, she felt like she had used up all the luck of her life.
She quickly looked for Fu Mingyi and saw him lying next to her.
She was about to call him to wake up with joy, but as soon as she got closer, her heart sank, and she instinctively felt that something was wrong.
It must be admitted that although she was the one who was thrown up and down on the suspension bridge, and theoretically she was far more frightened than Fu Mingyi, in terms of the severity and frequency of her injuries, Fu Mingyi was definitely the one who was tormented more severely.
Even though she managed to cushion her fall a few times thanks to what Mr. Wu taught her, it was Fu Mingyi who was supporting her until then.
There are only two words to describe her: lucky.
However, Fu Mingyi's situation is clearly not good.
This can only be described as tragic.
His clothes were stained with blood and were tattered, but fortunately, his head didn't seem to be in too much trouble.
But he has not woken up yet.
She reached out and touched his forehead, her heart leaping in surprise.
Excessive blood loss can cause a low-grade fever, which is exactly what Fu Mingyi is experiencing now.
She placed her hand under his nose, and for a moment her heart almost stopped.
Fortunately, he was still breathing.
Looking down further, she was alarmed to discover a trap between his arm and body.
She quickly checked his side for any wounds and searched the surrounding area for other animal traps. Finally, she determined that the burrow was probably abandoned. She even checked Fu Mingyi's back and only found this one animal trap, which was broken.
That was close.
She tossed the animal trap aside and began trying to figure out how to wake Fu Mingyi.
"Fu Mingyi? Can you hear me?"
Xiao Qing didn't dare move him, thinking she should wake him up first and then try to treat his wounds. But she tried several times and still couldn't wake him up.
Time is of the essence; there can be no more delay.
Xiao Qing made a quick decision to treat his wounds first.
Actually, she was also injured—though not as badly as Fu Mingyi, but now she was so worried about Fu Mingyi that she couldn't feel the pain in her own body.
She gritted her teeth and whispered, "Fu Mingyi, this is a critical time. I need to treat your wounds. You've lost too much blood, and I don't even know if you're fully conscious right now. I didn't take your clothes off for no reason. Please don't make a fuss about this later..."
She herself didn't know what nonsense she was rambling on; perhaps she just felt that if she didn't say something, the cave would be terrifyingly cold.
Fu Mingyi's most serious injuries were on his shoulders and back, where there were bloody wounds caused by sharp swords and rocks.
Then come the legs.
One of his legs was covered in large, bloody, and fleshy patches; it had turned white after being soaked in water, and looked horrific. His other leg's ankle was severely swollen, and it appeared likely to be fractured.
Xiao Qing was horrified. She knew very well that with Fu Mingyi's injuries, it was impossible for him to receive treatment in this narrow and damp cave.
She searched her entire body thoroughly, and thankfully, although the small bamboo tube was lost, the small medicine bag she always carried in her underwear was still there.
This is also what Mr. Wu taught us: life-saving medicines should be carried with you at all times and placed in a place where they are not easily stolen.
Her small medicine bag contained hemostatic and anti-inflammatory drugs, blood-activating and stasis-removing medicine for bruises, and oral medicine that Mr. Wu said was life-saving and vital energy-preserving.
With trembling hands, Xiao Qing laid out all the available medicines and used them on Fu Mingyi one by one. While treating his wounds, she couldn't help but get teary-eyed.
She knew all too well that if Fu Mingyi hadn't ultimately decided to jump, she would never have been able to be protected to this extent.
"Are you stupid? I told you long ago, I can't even guarantee I'll still be here in ten years. Why did you jump down like that? If I die, I might be able to go back and live a good life, but what will happen to this country if you die? You usually seem like a pretty smart person..."
Xiao Qing felt increasingly distressed as she thought about it, as if a heavy stone was pressing on her heart, making her feel both burdened and oppressed.
She rambled on and on about what she said—something she couldn't even remember later—while tending to Fu Mingyi's wounds. After she finished, she forcibly pried open his mouth and fed him a pill.
She had done everything she could, and suddenly felt as if all the strength in her body had been drained away.
She sat down with a thud, her spine aching from the impact.
Only then did she realize that while treating Fu Mingyi's wounds, she had even forgotten her own instinct to faint at the sight of blood. The ensuing pain, fatigue, fear, disappointment, and other negative feelings, like the most despicable enemies, suddenly overwhelmed her senses when she least expected it.
She felt so much pain in her arm that it didn't even feel like her own anymore.
She thought, either it's a fracture or a sprain.
Fortunately, she did not appear to have any serious bleeding symptoms.
But she didn't even have the strength to look at her poor arm right away.
To make matters worse, she had just used almost all the effective medicine on Fu Mingyi.
She forced herself to think about things unrelated to her current situation in order to distract herself from the pain.
She remembered Mr. Wu saying that if she practiced the mental techniques he taught diligently, although it wouldn't turn her into a martial arts master, it would still give her the protective energy of a martial artist. This would provide an extra layer of protection in case of danger.
She realized how right Mr. Wu was when she fell off the cliff.
If that doesn't work, she can try practicing some internal energy cultivation techniques; maybe that will alleviate the pain.
Fu Mingyi, please wake up...
Xiao Qing tried hard to banish those negative emotions from her mind, and then tried to concentrate on cultivating her inner power as she usually did at Chengde Palace. But she found that she just couldn't calm her mind.
Fu Mingyi remained unconscious. They didn't know if there were any more men in black outside. The cave was cold and damp, there was no food, and they were all injured. There was a severe shortage of medical supplies...
No matter how she thought about it, she felt the situation was far too pessimistic.
She couldn't help but pray that Fu Mingyi would wake up soon.
Finally, she simply opened her eyes and stared at Fu Mingyi, barely blinking, without doing anything else.
She wanted Fu Mingyi to wake up in the next second, but in reality, the process was so long that it almost drove her to despair.
