The next day, Bai Ruozhen and Gu Changqing did not stay for too long and returned to Yancheng in the afternoon. They first went to their future home and cleaned it up a bit before leaving.
Bai Ruozhen asked him, "Do we need to paint the walls again?"
"Just brush it after the 15th." Gu Changqing said.
"Aren't Third Brother and his wife getting married in February? Is there still time?" Bai Ruozhen asked in surprise.
Now it was Gu Changqing's turn to be surprised. "It's not that difficult. Just paint the walls and it'll be done in two days. Let's go to the flea market ahead of time to see if there's any suitable furniture. If not, we can order it right away. There's still plenty of time."
Bai Ruozhen finally felt relieved, "That's good."
Then Gu Changqing added, "Third brother isn't planning on buying any furniture. At most, a bed, a table, a wardrobe, and a few benches—not much else. The sofa I want is a little hard to come by, though. I'll probably have to get it from the south." Gu Changqing added, "By the way, I'm going south the day after tomorrow. I'll bring you some nice clothes when I come back."
Now it was Bai Ruozhen's turn to be dumbfounded. "You're going to the South? Then why should I go back to Yancheng?"
Gu Changqing was stunned for a moment, then said aggrievedly, "Don't you want to spend a day alone with me tomorrow?"
"Oh." Bai Ruozhen felt a little lost, and then said pitifully, "I can't bear to leave you."
Gu Changqing hummed, "I can't bear to leave you either."
Then he closed the door and hugged Bai Ruozhen and kissed her.
Finally, Gu Changqing said, "It's better to be at home. You can kiss whenever you want without worrying about others seeing you."
Bai Ruozhen: “….”
It seems quite sweet.
The next day was the tenth day of the first lunar month. Bai Ruozhen and Gu Changqing dated for the whole day, but they tacitly agreed not to go anywhere and stayed in the house. Gu Changqing felt that the house was empty and not only cold but also uncomfortable, so he went to the supermarket to buy an electric heater. It was quite warm when it was plugged in, but unfortunately the power went out before they could show off enough.
After checking, Gu Changqing found out that there was a short circuit, and the only electricity they had was...the electric heater.
So the electric heater, which had just been used for less than ten minutes, had to be hidden away.
Gu Changqing was very unwilling to give up, so he ran to the supermarket to look for low-power electrical appliances. Surprisingly, he bought an electric blanket. The power was not high, and although it was not as good as an electric heater, it was quite warm when plugged in.
As for drinking hot water, Gu Changqing went directly to the supermarket and bought a ready-made thermos and a kettle, and picked up some dead branches in the yard to burn.
There is no need to worry about food, as there is always something to eat in the supermarket.
When it was getting late, Gu Changqing was about to send Bai Ruozhen back to Gu Changlan's dormitory. Before leaving, he said, "If you're bored here, go to Second Aunt's house or go back to Xiahe Village. It's all fine. Anyway, there's not much to do this season, so Mom and the others are free too."
Bai Ruozhen was very reluctant to let go and didn't want to let go of Gu Changqing, but she couldn't tell him not to go because she knew that everything Gu Changqing did was for the sake of making their life better in the future.
Gu Changqing smiled, then took out two hundred yuan from his pocket and gave it to her. "When you have time, come with Wang Jun and Third Brother to buy pots and pans. I've already asked Fourth Sister to buy a gas stove. Don't bring it back when it arrives. Wait until the walls are painted before moving it over. Bring the bicycle and sewing machine over as well. I've told Fourth Sister everything. All you have to do is come and open the door."
Bai Ruozhen hummed sullenly, "I understand."
Gu Changqing went to the supermarket and bought her a lot of food. "Don't let Fourth Sister see it when you take it back. If you give it to her, tear off the packaging. Got it?"
"Yeah." After all, the things in the supermarket were too weird, and it would be bad to scare Fourth Sister.
Gu Changqing was thinking that if his fourth sister, that foodie, knew that he could buy so many delicious foods, she would blackmail him every day.
After sending Bai Ruozhen back to Gu Changlan, Gu Changqing also went back to pack his luggage.
The next morning, Gu Changqing and Qiu Qiming set off for the south, while Bai Ruozhen packed up and returned to Xiahe Village.
It was the slack season in Xiahe Village, and other educated youths also came back one after another. On the 14th day of the first lunar month, Zhao Laidie, Feng Qiujuan and Zhu Guixia also came back, and finally all the people in their house were complete.
On the 16th day of the first lunar month, other people started working to earn work points. Bai Ruozhen and Gu Xiaoli also returned to Yancheng early in the morning, one to work and the other to school.
Gu Xiaoli is already in her second year of high school and will graduate in half a year. Bai Ruozhen is reluctant to let her go. It would be so happy for the two of them to have lunch together.
After the New Year, Auntie Fat became fatter than before, but Old Li was a little thinner than before. Seeing Bai Ruozhen, he said happily, "I didn't eat the food you cooked during the holiday. I don't like it when I go back. Look at me, I have lost weight."
Bai Ruozhen washed the pot and said with a smile, "We had lunch."
However, the delicious meal Bai Ruozhen mentioned didn't include any real meat or fish. Since it was just the Lunar New Year, everyone had plenty of oil and water. Instead, they cooked some home-cooked dishes. Even so, everyone was full. Sun Fang patted her belly and sighed, "The thing I look forward to most during the holidays is eating the food Zhenzhen cooks."
Other people feel the same way. Maybe they eat too much delicious food and then they really can't eat the ordinary food.
The weekend arrived a few days after school started. Wang Jun arrived and, along with Gu Changsong, asked Bai Ruozhen to go to the flea market to see if there was any suitable furniture. Meanwhile, Gu Zhiguo and Gu Changbai were painting the walls of the house. Initially, Gu Changsong wanted to find someone knowledgeable in the field, but Gu Zhiguo felt unsure and brought Gu Changbai with him.
Seeing the brothers' small courtyard, Gu Changbai was envious. "I didn't expect the third and fifth brothers to be so rich."
