Chapter 130

Bai Ruozhen was worried for several days after Gu Xiaoli left. However, a week later, Gu Xiaoli came back and no longer looked injured. Bai Ruozhen was relieved.

In the blink of an eye, it was August 15th. The school had two days off and Gu Changqing did not travel far. He had been traveling around the province recently. The couple returned to Xiahe Village on the morning of August 14th with Wang Jun and his wife and the sisters Gu Xiaoli and Gu Changlan.

A group of six people rode bicycles back. Because Wang Jun was pregnant, Gu Changsong rode very slowly. It was already noon when they arrived in the town. They first went to Uncle Gu's house and then went to Xiahe Village with them.

When we arrived at Xiahe Village, it was obviously bustling with activity. Some early-ripening corns were already piled up on the threshing ground, and they would all be harvested in two days.

The village also allowed the villagers to rest for two days to prepare for the festival. Qiu Lanying cleaned up the chickens and various seafood early in the morning. Gu Zhiguo took his pipe and moved a stool to sit at the door waiting for the children to come back. The first to come back were Gu Changbai and his wife. Although the couple was annoying, the child was very likable. The little mouth called "Grandpa" sweetly and then went in, moved a stool and sat beside him to wait for the uncles and aunts.

Song Mei curled her lips and went in to take the things she had brought into the house. Seeing Qiu Lanying packing her things, she asked, "Mom, there's no news from Lao Wu's family yet."

Qiu Lanying glanced at her. "What news?"

"My child." Song Mei's eyes widened. "They've been married for several months, why is there still no news?"

"Do you have any news?" Qiu Lanying frowned, always feeling that her eldest daughter-in-law was going to cause trouble again.

Song Mei was stunned and said with a wry smile, "What news do I have..."

Qiu Lanying frowned, "Cherry is five years old this year."

"Ah." Song Mei still didn't turn around. "Mom, I'm talking about my fifth sister-in-law. Look, my third sister-in-law is pregnant, but why can't my fifth sister-in-law get pregnant? Maybe she can't have children."

"Yes, she's been married for several months." Qiu Lanying smiled. "Cherry is already five years old. How come you haven't been able to get pregnant in the past four years? Are you unable to have children?"

Song Mei's face froze and turned ugly. "Mom, why are you saying that to me? How could I not be able to have a baby?"

As she said this, Song Mei started crying and felt wronged. After all, she was pregnant with Cherry when she got married.

Qiu Lanying's face also fell. "Did I say anything about you not getting pregnant in four years? Your fifth brother's wife has only been married for three months, and the fifth brother has been away for more than two months. Isn't it normal that you can't get pregnant? I think you are just idle, thinking about making trouble all day long."

Song Mei just covered her face and cried, "But I gave birth to Cherry."

"......" Qiu Lanying felt a headache whenever she met her eldest daughter-in-law. She sighed and shouted outside, "Gu Changbai, take your wife out."

Gu Changbai felt something was wrong when he heard his mother's voice. He must have thought that his wife was being silly again. He hurried into the house and asked with a wry smile, "Mom, did Song Mei make you angry again? Don't be angry, I'll scold her." Then he scolded Song Mei with a cold face, "What's wrong with you? Every time you come back, you make Mom angry. Do you still want to live a good life?"

Song Mei shuddered, and suddenly remembered the harsh words Gu Changbai had said when they had quarreled a few days ago. She cried, "I didn't make Mom angry. I just wanted to know why my fifth sister-in-law hadn't gotten pregnant yet. I was doing this for her own good."

Bai Ruozhen, who was just coming in from the door, paused and immediately felt something was wrong. What did Song Mei have to do with whether she got pregnant or not?

Song Mei didn't notice her coming in and continued to talk, "Lao Wu isn't young anymore, he's already 20. How lonely he must be without a child."

"I think Cherry is lonelier."

Song Mei froze and looked up suddenly to see Bai Ruozhen and Wang Jun standing at the door. Wang Jun's face was also unhappy, and he looked at her as if he wanted to kill her.

"Why are my cherries so lonely..." Song Mei asked blankly without realizing it.

But Gu Changbai understood and quickly said to Bai Ruozhen, "Fifth sister-in-law, your sister-in-law is stupid. Don't bother with her."

Song Mei retorted, "Why am I stupid?"

Bai Ruozhen sneered at the couple and said, "They are quite stupid." Without waiting for Song Mei to refute, he continued, "Sister-in-law gave birth to Cherry in the first year of her marriage, five years ago. So why haven't you gotten pregnant in the past four years? Could it be that you are infertile?"

"You can't give birth." Song Mei jumped up. She had originally planned to show off in front of her mother-in-law today, but she didn't expect her mother-in-law to be so selfish and not stand on her side at all. Now her brother-in-law and sister-in-law said this to her, which she simply couldn't stand.

Bai Ruozhen raised the corners of her lips and snorted, "Whether I can give birth or not has nothing to do with you, but you, sister-in-law, Song Mei." She paused and glanced at Gu Changbai, "Brother is the eldest son and grandson of our Gu family, right?"

Song Mei's heart skipped a beat. "So, so what?"

Bai Ruozhen raised his eyebrows, "The eldest son and grandson don't even have a son now. Tsk tsk, my sister-in-law is not in the village so she doesn't know the rumors in the village."

"Fifth brother's sister-in-law..." Gu Changbai felt embarrassed. Although his wife was at fault first, she was the eldest sister-in-law after all. Why couldn't her, as his younger brother's sister-in-law, be more generous?

"Brother." Gu Changqing stopped Gu Changbai and said, "If we interfere in the affairs between sisters-in-law, it will become a matter between brothers."

Gu Changbai's face froze and he looked at Gu Changsong, hoping he could say something.

Gu Changsong smiled and said, "Come on, Dad is smoking at the door and it's so boring, let's go and chat with him."

As he spoke, Gu Changsong came over to pull Gu Changbai. Gu Changqing gave Bai Ruozhen a soothing look, thinking that she would not suffer any loss, and since she had his mother's help, he was not worried. He and Gu Changsong pulled Gu Changbai out together, leaving the battlefield to the women in the room.
