Chapter 54

The child's mother smiled awkwardly and glanced at their food. "The child is hungry. He hasn't eaten for a day."

Bai Ruozhen blinked, "Have you eaten yet?"

The mother didn't think much about it and nodded, saying, "We ate it, but the child didn't."

"The child didn't eat." Bai Ruozhen repeated with a slight frown, "Then why did you eat it? Aren't you his parents?"

The woman froze for a moment, then continued to defend herself, "I gave him food when I went out, but he refused to eat."

"Sister, this is your fault. If he doesn't want to eat, you can just take him with you." Bai Ruozhen was very dissatisfied with the mother's answer.

The woman first frowned, then became furious. "If you don't want to feed the child, just say so directly. Why are you saying all this nonsense?"

Gu Changqing had been standing by to watch the fun, thinking it was quite amusing to watch his girlfriend's arguments. Suddenly, the woman lost her temper, and Gu Changqing was immediately displeased. "Sister, you don't care about your son, and now you're blaming us? No one's food comes from the wind, so why should it be given to your child?"

Maybe because Gu Changqing looked a little difficult to deal with, the woman became angry and stopped talking. The man next to her remained silent, looked up at Gu Changqing, and pulled the woman.

"Come here now! Why are you still hanging around when people won't give you food?" The woman didn't dare to yell at Bai Ruozhen, but instead yelled at the child.

The child looked at the eggs reluctantly and greedily.

Bai Ruozhen wasn't so generous as to give up her meal to someone else. She was still hungry, and if she did, her brother Changqing would definitely give her his share, and then her brother Changqing would go hungry. Besides, whether the child was hungry or not was a question of fact. She wouldn't let her partner go hungry while she fed someone else.

"Eat it." Gu Changqing glared at the couple opposite and gave the meat pie to Bai Ruozhen.

The cabbage and pork pie smelled delicious when heated. When I took a bite and the filling inside was revealed, the family of three opposite me stared in amazement.

The child began to cry, "Mom, I want meat pie."

The woman slapped the child on the butt and said, "Eat, eat, eat, eat nothing, there's nothing to eat."

Then came the crying of a child and the scolding of a woman.

Bai Ruozhen looked up at the mother and son, then slowly ate the meat pie.

Gu Changqing had also finished eating and was about to pick up the eggs when the child suddenly reached out and swept the eggs to the ground. "If I don't want to eat it, you can't eat it either." Then he stepped on it.

Bai Ruozhen was stunned, then looked at the woman, "You should compensate me."

The woman's eyes flashed. "I, I don't have the money to pay."

Gu Changqing grabbed Bai Ruozhen and sneered, "How can such a person compensate? They should have found the staff on the train and contacted the Revolutionary Committee. Chairman M said that wasting food is shameful. Eggs are so expensive, and they were thrown away so easily. Maybe they threw away even more food in places where we can't see it."

The couple opposite suddenly changed their expressions.

Gu Changqing continued, "Zhenzhen, I'll watch the luggage here. Go find the train attendant and have them contact the Revolutionary Committee. Only capitalists would waste food like this. Eradicating this poisonous tumor of socialism is what we should do."

"Don't talk nonsense, we are not capitalists." The man opposite suddenly shouted.

The woman also stammered in rebuttal, "That's right, don't spit bloody words at me."

"I'm slandering you?" Gu Changqing sneered, pointing at the egg on the ground. "Then tell me what this is?"

The woman blinked. "This is because the child is ignorant."

"Ignorant? You're five or six years old and still ignorant? If you're not a capitalist, then what are you? In our countryside, four-year-olds know to go to the fields and follow adults to pick up wheat ears. Who would waste eggs?" Gu Changqing refused to give in.

"We'll compensate you." The man pushed the woman, "Give them a dime."

The woman was unhappy. "No, why should I give it to you?" She suddenly changed the subject and said, "Who saw that we crushed it? It was clearly them who crushed it themselves."

After she said that, the man also reacted, "That's right, you have no evidence, and we accused you of wasting food, eggs and meat patties, but it's obvious that you ate enough and didn't want to give it to our children. You even crushed it and didn't give it to us. Cuilan, go find the conductor and report them."

The woman responded and then got up to go out.

Gu Changqing sneered and watched her go out.

Before the woman could leave, the conductor came in and asked, "What are you guys arguing about?" He looked at the family of three opposite and said, "Take out your tickets so I can see them."

The man stammered, "Why are you looking at ours and not theirs?"

Gu Changqing took the ticket out of his pocket and shook it, "Here it is."

The conductor said, "See? Hurry and show me your tickets. I heard your argument just now. Come with me to see the chairman of the Revolutionary Committee on the train. You should be paraded through the streets for wasting food like this."

The woman was horrified. “We didn’t mean to do that.”

The conductor was a little impatient. "Whether it's intentional or not, take out the ticket quickly."

The couple couldn't get it out, and the conductor sneered, "You actually evaded the ticket and escaped to the sleeper car. Come with me now."

The couple was afraid of attracting the Revolutionary Committee, so they took their child and followed the conductor.

After the people left, Bai Ruozhen looked at the eggs on the ground and then at Gu Changqing. The two looked at each other, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
