Bai Jiansheng said, "I've taken a leave of absence tomorrow morning and won't be going to work. Ask Xiao Gu to come over so we can discuss your situation."
"Thank you, Dad," Bai Ruozhen said sincerely. Although she hadn't thought this family was anything special when she first arrived, after so much time had passed, she realized that her parents actually loved her very much. Although they chose a son over a daughter, she was grateful for this decision. If she hadn't gone to the countryside, she might not have met her little Li, let alone someone as kind to her as Gu Changqing.
There are always trade-offs in life, and it's understandable that her parents think their son should stay in the city to support his sisters.
Bai Jiansheng smiled and said, "What nonsense are you talking about."
"Lishan, drink the chicken soup quickly." Bai Ruozhen said as he sat in front of Bai Lishan.
Bai Lishan nodded, took a sip of chicken soup and glanced at Bai Ruoxin in the corner. Bai Ruozhen felt very sad. Poor child.
When it was time to go to bed, Bai Ruoxin didn't dare to make any more trouble and lay quietly on the edge of the bed. Bai Ruozhen didn't want to pay attention to her and he and Bai Ruoyun took up most of the bed. The next morning, Gu Changqing came and talked about their marriage at home with Bai Jiansheng, while Bai Ruozhen went out to look for Pei Guohong according to his memory.
Pei Guohong's family was relatively well-off, with a relative working at the Youth League Office. So, even though she was assigned to the countryside, she was assigned to a nearby suburb. Seeing Bai Ruozhen coming, she felt quite embarrassed. "Zhenzhen, I originally wanted to go to Yancheng, but my mom thought it was too far and wouldn't let me go."
"It's okay. It's good in the suburbs. I can come back whenever I want." Bai Ruozhen knew from her memory that Pei Guohong and the original owner were really good friends. However, she was curious why Pei Guohong hadn't written her a single letter in the past six months, so she asked her, "Why don't you write to me?"
Pei Guohong pouted and said, "You don't write to me, so I won't write to you."
Bai Ruozhen hugged her arm and smiled, "I just wanted to see when you would write to me, and it turns out you were waiting for me too. Good Guohong, we should write to each other more often in the future."
"Of course." Pei Guohong was happy that Bai Ruozhen wasn't angry with her. "Why are you back now? And why are you fatter? But you look better than before."
"I came back with my partner this time." Bai Ruozhen said embarrassedly with a blushing face.
Pei Guohong was indeed shocked. "Are you dating?"
Bai Ruozhen nodded, and then told Pei Guohong about Gu Changqing's situation. Pei Guohong thought it was simple, thinking that as long as he treated her well, it would be fine. Then she enviously said, "I want to date too."
"Of course, but I don't think your mother will let you date in the countryside," Bai Ruozhen said.
Pei Guohong curled her lips, "That's right, we'll talk about it when the time comes. By the way, is your eldest sister going to the countryside too?"
Bai Ruozhen hummed sullenly, "She didn't even give me a good look when I came back, and even said that I should go to Guizhou. Now she wants to switch it back, letting me go to Guizhou and she to Yancheng. If she hadn't lied to me, I wouldn't have gone to the countryside six months early."
Pei Guohong was stunned. "What? She tricked you into going to the countryside? I was thinking about us going to the countryside together, and asked my uncle to separate us. I didn't expect you to go to the countryside so quietly, and to go to a place as far away as Yancheng."
"Alas, didn't I hit my head before the New Year? Then my eldest sister took advantage of my confusion and tricked me into signing up. Then she stayed in the city. I didn't expect that God would have eyes and she had to go to the countryside. Didn't you see that they made a fuss when I came back? You also know my parents. They want to give their hearts to us. These past few days, my eldest sister has made me sleepless all day." Bai Ruozhen said half-truthfully, "I really hate my eldest sister. She can't stand me doing well. She even wants to say bad things about me in front of my girlfriend."
"Your eldest sister is so mean." Pei Guohong stood up and said angrily, "Zhenzhen, I want to find my uncle and assign her to a poor place."
Bai Ruozhen's brows twitched. "That's not good. If she calls and cries, my mother will be upset again."
"Hmph, with her character, she'll get beaten up if she goes to the countryside. Besides, some places are so remote that there's no road, let alone making phone calls or writing letters." Pei Guohong gritted his teeth and decided that he must avenge his good friend.
Bai Ruozhen said, "Forget it, let's not talk about her. It makes me feel bad."
The two chatted for a long time. Pei Guohong was curious about what Bai Ruozhen's partner looked like, so she followed her back to Bai's house. After meeting Gu Changqing, Pei Guohong pulled her outside and said, "No wonder you're looking for a partner. Your partner is really good-looking."
Bai Ruozhen said shyly, "It's mainly about being nice to me. Otherwise, what's the point of being pretty?"
Pei Guohong laughed, "That's true."
After Pei Guohong left, Gu Changqing came out of the room, looked at her and whispered, "Did you do something bad?"
"No." Bai Ruozhen snorted, but there was a smile in his eyes, "I tell you, I am a petty person. If you offend me, I will definitely take revenge."
"You talk as if I've bullied you before." Gu Changqing liked her bad nature. If someone bullied her, she would definitely fight back instead of complaining about herself. He thought this was particularly good and that she was a perfect match for him.
"I'm just reminding you in advance that I'm not the kind of person who's so selfless that I forgive others when they bully me." Bai Ruozhen looked at the people coming and going downstairs and said, "Even if she is my own sister, I will definitely take revenge. Not to mention that she has made my parents so angry."
Gu Changqing sighed, "You feel sorry for your parents."
Bai Ruozhen sighed slightly, "It's not that I feel bad. After all, they took care of Liqiang, but they were unwilling to keep me at home. But I understand, because sooner or later I will get married, and if I get married, I will lose my job, and the family will lose income. It will be even more difficult to support the whole family with only my father's company, so they must keep the job at home."
