Chapter 83

With the chef's approval, Bai Ruozhen rolled up his sleeves and decided to work hard, while Lao Li and a few idle chefs gathered around curiously, wanting to see what this new apprentice with a background could cook. They even had a plan in mind: if the dish was too unpalatable, they would just cook a new one, since there was no shortage of vegetables in the kitchen anyway.

Bai Ruozhen glanced at the kitchen and found a large cabbage. She took it, peeled off a few pieces of the stems and began to cut it. Old Li was a little surprised by the way she held the knife and her cutting skills. Could this little girl really know how to cook? Her knife skills were quite good.

The other chefs also had the same feeling and looked at Bai Ruozhen.

Bai Ruozhen was concentrating on cooking. He cut the cabbage stalks into thin pieces and then cut the leaves. He took two cloves of garlic and two chili peppers from the basket, heated the oil, sautéed the garlic, added the chili peppers, and then added the cabbage stalks and stir-fried them.

When the aroma overflowed from the pot, Lao Li and the other chefs looked at each other and thought that the girl really knew how to cook and the food smelled good.

But they are also worried that they will be replaced. After all, their level is really not that good.

"Master Li, do you want to fry something else?" Bai Ruozhen asked as he put the cabbage into the plate.

Old Li, still in shock, said blankly, "Stir-fry another meat dish."

"Oh." So Bai Ruozhen took the cucumber, black fungus and an onion and chopped them up, then fried the meat and poured the three ingredients directly into the pot.

After a while, another dish came out of the pot.

But there were a lot of people in their kitchen, more than ten, and two dishes were not enough, so Lao Li asked her to cook two more.

So Bai Ruozhen fried some celery and then a plate of pickles.

When the last four dishes were ready, Lao Li and several other chefs were really dumbfounded.

They are all home-cooked dishes, the simplest dishes, but the ones made by the little girl are really delicious. Just smelling them makes them better than theirs.

Not only did they think so, but the chefs who were serving the food also thought so. They certainly knew that the fragrance was not from themselves or the dishes in the appetizer bowls. It must be that some chef had performed exceptionally well!

As for the students outside, they had to eat the tasteless big pot meals and smell the fragrance that wafted over from time to time. It was so sad.

They are so pitiful that they can't even have anything delicious to eat.

The chefs who were serving the food quickly finished serving the dishes, washed the bowls and hurried to their usual dining place. When they arrived, they found that the atmosphere was a little strange. Several master chefs were sitting around the table, staring at the fragrant dishes in a daze, while the new apprentice, Comrade Xiaobai, was standing there with a confused look on his face.

Hearing someone coming, Lao Lai wiped his face and said, "Let's eat first, and we'll talk after dinner."

As soon as he finished speaking, everyone gathered around and started to eat the dishes without even taking the steamed buns.

"Oh, this is made by you, Master Li. It's really delicious."

"Oh, this spicy and sour cabbage is so delicious, I can eat five steamed buns."

“Cucumber and wood ear mushrooms are delicious too.”

A few chefs who were unaware of the truth ate happily, while the food of the chefs was difficult to swallow.

It wasn't that they thought the food wasn't tasty, but it was so delicious that they started to feel a sense of crisis. They wondered if the new chef would replace them. After all, the salary of a chef was vastly different from that of an apprentice.

Some people are happy after a meal while others feel like chewing wax.

Bai Ruozhen ate his own food, but it was gone before she could finish it. The last four dishes and even the soup were eaten by Aunt Pang with steamed buns. Bai Ruozhen ate the steamed buns in small bites, thinking that it was a good thing that she had a good meal in the morning.

After dinner, everyone washed vegetables and prepared lunch. Old Li said to Bai Ruozhen, "Xiaobai, come out with me."

Bai Ruozhen followed Lao Li outside. Lao Li said anxiously, "Xiaobai, do you want to be a chef?"

Bai Ruozhen thought about himself as a chef, cooking several large pots of food every day, and was so scared that he quickly shook his head, "No."

Old Li was astonished, "Don't want to? Why?"

"It's too tiring to cook in a big pot. I can't lift the big spoon." Bai Ruozhen said honestly.

Old Li didn't even have a peaceful meal, and ended up asking such an answer. He was speechless for a moment and thought the girl was a little silly.

Can a chef compare with an apprentice?

He himself was not worried. After all, his backing was strong enough and he had great influence in the kitchen. At most, Bai Ruozhen would be the head chef, and the other chefs would leave or step down one by one.

However, although this newbie got in through the back door, he is really good at cooking. Even if he becomes a chef... he seems to be pretty good.

Old Li thought about it and although he felt a little sorry for the chefs, he still said, "Why don't you consider it? Being a chef pays well and the benefits are good, and besides cooking a few dishes, you don't have to do anything else."

Bai Ruozhen shook her head. "No, Master Li, I really can't hold a big spoon. I can stir-fry some small dishes, but for other things... well, I'm afraid of getting tired." Her boyfriend told her to be lazy if she could, and to wait for a year before getting married.

Although Bai Ruozhen didn't think that she would quit her job after a year, she really didn't want to be a chef. She felt tired just looking at those pots of dishes, let alone cooking them herself. She might as well just serve the dishes.

"Have you thought it through?" asked Lao Li.

Bai Ruozhen nodded, but then he thought about what would happen if she didn't become the head chef and asked her to serve the dishes, so he said, "Master Li, how about I just cook some stir-fries for us to eat in-house?"

Old Li's eyes lit up, "That's fine." People like them who cook in the kitchen can usually take some leftovers home when they get off work. The leftovers of the students don't taste good, and the stir-fries he makes are not very good either. Over time, he hasn't brought any vegetables home. If this newbie can cook more, he will feel proud to take them home.
