Extra 1

With family planning on the horizon, Bai Ruozhen caught the last chance to give birth to a son and a daughter, bringing her four children in two pregnancies—a pace that made it hard not to envy. By the time her children were five months old, her vacation was over. Fortunately, Doubao and Jiaozi were ready for kindergarten, and Aunt Gu and her husband were able to manage the two little ones. For easy access to school, Bai Ruozhen and Gu Changqing bought a small courtyard house with two entrances near the school, making it comfortable for the entire family.

During his four years at university, Gu Changqing wasn't idle either. Whenever he got a break, he traveled south. Especially after the reform and opening-up policy, when economic and regulatory controls loosened across the country, Gu Changqing seized the opportunity to buy land outside Beijing and build a factory. As for what to produce, Gu Changqing decided to start a clothing business. Initially, he sourced goods from the south, but later realized that wasn't cost-effective, so he hired his own people and set up his own factory. However, since large-scale recruitment wasn't feasible at the time, Gu Changqing recruited Gu Changlan and a few other skilled women from Xiahe Village to come to Beijing to work as relatives.

What surprised Bai Ruozhen and his wife was that Hu Qiuyang could actually design clothes. What was even more unexpected was that Gu Changlan could do it too. This made Gu Changqing ecstatic, and thus a small-scale clothing factory was set up.

However, Gu Changqing felt that all eggs should not be put in one basket. In addition to running the garment factory, he also wholesaled electrical appliances from the south to sell in Beijing.

By the time of graduation, Gu Changqing had accumulated a lot of savings, and Bai Ruozhen was directly retained by the school after graduation and became a history teacher, but she also took the postgraduate entrance examination at Gu Changqing's suggestion.

This seemed incredible to Bai Ruozhen. She never knew she had a talent for studying.

The four children in the family are all grown up, and the youngest is over three years old. Bai Ruozhen has no worries and continues to study for a master's degree.

It was 1984, and national policies were relaxed, and various undertakings were booming. Bai Ruozhen unexpectedly resigned from his position at the school and resolutely went into business.

What are you doing?

Did she forget what she was good at? She had only studied history out of necessity. Now that there was policy support, Bai Ruozhen felt that she would be letting the country down if she didn't develop her hobbies.

cough.

So Bai Ruozhen opened a cooking training class with the funding of Gu Changqing.

This was beyond everyone's expectations. A graduate student from Beijing University resigned and started a training class!

Training in cooking!

At the beginning, no one was recruited, but Bai Ruozhen was not worried. He made various delicious foods every day and placed them at the entrance of the training class, allowing anyone who was interested to try them. Unexpectedly, the training class became famous because of this.

Once, someone from the largest state-owned restaurant in Beijing came and invited Bai Ruozhen to work as a chef.

Bai Ruozhen refused without even thinking, "I'm sorry, I'm determined to promote my culinary skills and have no intention of working in a state-owned restaurant."

The hotel manager wanted to persuade him again, but Gu Changqing came out of the renovated training class and said to the hotel manager, "My wife is not short of money. She opened this training class to kill time. She will not go to a state-owned hotel."

The manager of the state-owned hotel looked at him in surprise and recognized him as Gu Changqing who had been in the newspaper not long ago. He was immediately impressed. He thought that Gu Changqing really had a lot of money. Looking at the large-scale training class in front of him, he guessed that he had bought the property rights.

However, the hotel manager went back and reported to his superiors, and then asked the hotel's chefs to sign up!

This move caused a sensation in the entire capital. Everyone knows that the chefs in state-owned restaurants are awesome, so why do they still need to sign up for training courses?

Upon asking, I found out that they had found someone who was a better cook than them and they wanted to learn from him.

There were many chefs in the state-owned restaurants in Beijing, so it was impossible for them all to go there at once. So they went to learn in batches. After the first batch returned, the second batch would follow.

How effective is it?

Just look at the increasing number of people eating at state-owned restaurants. It's delicious. Why is it delicious? It's a new skill I just learned.

Bai Ruozhen was quite happy to be a cooking teacher, and he even gave his training class a resounding name, "Xinxiang Technical School".

Because of the participation of the state-owned hotel, more and more students came to Xinxiang Technical School to enroll. Bai Ruozhen was too busy to handle it alone. She thought of Comrade Xu Xiaofeng in Yancheng and called her over.

But the two of them couldn't do it, so they used their connections to find a few chefs who were very famous before the liberation.

As Xinxiang Technical School became more and more famous, Bai Ruozhen became busier and busier. However, Gu Changqing was unhappy.

It was obvious that his wife no longer cared about him. Gu Changqing felt a sense of crisis and did not attend the meeting. He left his work to the vice president and went to buy 999 roses. Then he drove his new and very cool jeep to the gate of the technical school.

Bai Ruozhen was very busy, but she was also very happy that the man came. After explaining some things, she followed Gu Changqing out. When she saw the back seat full of roses, Bai Ruozhen's mouth twitched, and then she saw the pitiful look on Gu Changqing's face.

Bai Ruozhen wanted to laugh but couldn't, so she simply dragged him out on a date.

Gu Changqing happily parked his car, then found a bicycle and took Bai Ruozhen for a ride. They went to the movies, then to a newly opened disco, and finally went to the park for a date hand in hand.

When it got late, he didn't go home, but went to a newly opened hotel and booked a luxury suite.

Bai Ruozhen walked in and saw roses on the bed in the suite. She couldn't help but ask, "How many flowers did you buy?"

Gu Changqing was stunned, "I didn't buy this."

It was probably sent by one of my subordinates with a keen eye.
