Outside the carriage, the sound of wheels continued. Inside, Jiaming, after checking that Hongxuan was alright, immediately switched into the role of a strict mother and began to scold her son.
"Aisin-Gioro Hongxuan, you're really something, you're so capable! Do you know how dangerous your actions today were? Do you know...?"
The endless lecturing left Hongxuan with his little head drooping, looking utterly pitiful and adorable.
In the past, Jiaming might have fallen for this, but not now. She couldn't be soft-hearted; she was determined to teach the little guy a lesson.
Seeing that his mother wasn't buying it, Hongxuan felt disheartened. Just then, the carriage curtain was suddenly opened, and sunlight streamed in, making the mother and son, who were looking at each other at the same time, squint their equally beautiful eyes.
Jiaming squinted, a fleeting, almost imperceptible look of surprise flashing across her eyes. Then she quickly glanced at Hongxuan, her eyes revealing understanding. At the same time, she thought to herself that she was truly both angry and worried about Hongxuan; otherwise, she wouldn't have noticed that her master had ridden over on horseback.
As for Hongxuan, as the Fourth Prince, with his stern face and icy aura, entered the carriage, and as Su Peisheng, who was leading the horse, lowered the curtain, he immediately looked flustered and panicked.
Jiaming wasn't heartbroken at all; on the contrary, she was quite pleased with the child's reaction. This little guy just needed to be taught a lesson.
She gave a perfunctory bow to the Fourth Master and then immediately served him tea.
Fourth Master glanced at Jiaming indifferently, without immediately taking the teacup.
Jiaming suddenly felt pressured, and a bad feeling began to rise in her heart.
Sure enough, Fourth Master snorted coldly before taking the teacup.
Seeing this, Jiaming immediately understood that she had been wrongly accused. However, since the master had accepted the teacup, did that mean that the matter was over for her?
But the master was lost in thought when he was pulled back by the sound of him slamming down his teacup.
"Aisin Gioro Hongxuan, of the Guarjia clan!"
Jiaming lowered her eyes, thinking to herself: "Sigh, just as I thought, the master won't let me off easily." Then, she quickly glanced at Hongxuan, who looked sullen, and her beautiful eyes flashed with the same sullenness. At the same time, she sighed inwardly: "Sigh, I've been dragged into this by this brat again. This damned guy, really."
She wasn't afraid of the Fourth Master's cold face or his icy demeanor, but she was terrified of his nagging lectures.
What's scary is what comes.
"You two, sit across from me and straighten your backs..."
As the Fourth Master spoke, he started talking about Hongxuan and then about Jiaming, mentioning how our bodies and hair are given to us by our parents... He then went on to say that if she got hurt, Hongxuan would be unfilial... He then scolded Jiaming for being an unfit mother, saying that her son was causing such a fuss and she shouldn't... and so on. Then, he went back to talking about Hongxuan... In short, the one being scolded was Hongxuan, and Jiaming was the one who suffered collateral damage.
Jiaming knew Fourth Master's temperament well, knew his nagging habit of lecturing, and knew that interrupting him would only make things worse—he would definitely scold them even more.
As for Hongxuan, he had been scolded by the Fourth Prince many times and understood this principle.
However, the Fourth Prince's lecture was so long that while Jiaming was hanging her head, pretending to know her mistake, she was inwardly marveling at the Fourth Prince's profound knowledge and his ability to quote classics to instruct people without repeating himself. At that moment, Hongxuan, who was being scolded and was feeling utterly defeated, could no longer hold back.
"Bang!" His little head and forehead slammed heavily onto the table; he was clearly dozing off.
The child had already expended a lot of energy riding a horse, and with the Fourth Master's repeated scolding, the child, who had already admitted his mistake, had developed a hypnotic effect from the repeated reprimands.
But in the Fourth Prince's eyes, it meant his lecture had been wasted. He was burning with anger, which manifested in his increasingly cold and stern expression, causing the temperature inside the carriage to drop several degrees again. As for the outside of the carriage, since it was out of sight, it was unknown whether it had any effect.
Seeing this, Jiaming could only silently mourn for her son, who was rubbing his forehead and complaining of pain, completely unaware of the impending danger.
Sure enough, the Fourth Master suppressed his anger, lowered his voice, and roared, "Hongxuan!"
Upon hearing this, Hongxuan abruptly looked up at the Fourth Master and subconsciously replied, "Xuan'er is here." Then, he shuddered, and his eyes flashed with annoyance and panic.
Her forehead was red and her little face looked pitiful, but Fourth Master wasn't buying it.
"You..." Blah blah blah, the Fourth Master's words were firm and resounding, and a new round of reprimands began.
If Jiaming hadn't noticed that his gaze would occasionally fall on the little guy's forehead, she would have thought that he was truly unaffected by the little guy's pitiful appearance.
As for herself, she naturally felt sorry for him, but the little guy had been through a lot of falls and experiences, and the little red mark on his forehead wasn't swollen, so she could remain calm and not anxious.
Meanwhile, the Fourth Master, his throat dry from scolding, glanced at Jiaming. Jiaming, understanding, poured him some tea. In the meantime, she gave her son, Hongxuan, a helpless look—he brought this upon himself, so he'd better suffer the consequences!
After sipping tea to moisten his mouth, the Fourth Prince continued his lecture, quoting classics without repeating himself. As he lectured, Jiaming poured him tea three more times. Just as she was about to pour the fourth time, the carriage suddenly stopped.
“Master, we’ve arrived.” Su Peisheng’s voice suddenly came from outside the carriage.
Upon hearing this, the Fourth Master in the carriage paused in his lecture.
We've arrived! That's great!
Whether it was Hongxuan who was being scolded, or Jiaming who was scolded first and then forced to listen to the scolding, they both felt a sense of relief at this moment.
Unexpectedly, he was so happy that he was discovered by the Fourth Master.
"Hmph, that's enough of the lecture for now. But Hongxuan, memorize the Three Character Classic and the Thousand Character Classic within a month. If you can't recite them when we check in a month," the Fourth Master continued with a cold snort, his implication clear.
"I understand, Father!" Hongxuan nodded obediently.
"As for you," Fourth Master glanced at Jiaming, his face still stern, "Hmph, a woman must be punished a hundred times over." He added in his mind: Tonight, the punishment will be the same.
