Chapter 229 Hongxuan's Suicide Attempt (Part 4)

"Father!" Hongxuan's voice was filled with obvious excitement.

Seeing that the young prince's mood was different from usual, the Fourth Prince's voice was unusually less cold, "Hmm!" He was worried about him.

Hongxuan stared at Fourth Master expectantly and said, "It's done!" As he spoke, his left index finger twitched involuntarily. He was both excited and nervous, waiting for his father to check and then decisively announce the end of the tracing punishment, and then wave his hand to tell him that he no longer needed to trace characters and could play to his heart's content.

Yeah, haha, I misspoke about playing. As long as he doesn't write that many words, it'll be fine. Of course, he's nervous, but that's a secret, I can't tell you.

The Fourth Master couldn't understand the little guy's thoughts. When he heard that the little guy had finished the hundred repetitions of tracing, he was briefly stunned, but quickly came back to his senses and narrowed his eyes. The Fourth Master asked calmly, "You just said you finished?"

Hongxuan suddenly felt a little more nervous, but he still nodded his head firmly, "Yes."

The Fourth Prince stared at Hongxuan for a few more moments before calmly picking up the large characters he had written to inspect them. As he looked at them, he took out a brush and occasionally circled the characters, noting which ones were acceptable and which ones needed improvement.

After checking several copies, Fourth Master suddenly stopped.

Seeing this, Hongxuan couldn't help but clench his little fists, his eyes fixed on his father who was being examined. Suddenly, he met a pair of dark, deep eyes.

My heart skipped a beat. Looking at my father, who was examining the baby faster and faster, I realized he had stopped marking anything. His tense face and the increasingly chilly feeling I was getting made the little one's bad premonition even stronger.

Waaah, what if he regrets it? Is there a way to undo it?

With a loud "smack," Fourth Master slammed his hand on the table. Papers flew up, and teacups and other items on the table shook violently.

Although Xiao Hongxuan had already received a premonition, he was still startled and stammered, "Ah, ah, father." Then, his lips moved as if he wanted to say something, but when he met the pair of dark and deep eyes in front of him, he couldn't say anything and his little body shrank back again.

"Huh!" Jiaming, who was engrossed in reading a storybook in the next room, suddenly heard a noise from next door. She immediately put down her book and looked toward the source of the sound.

Hongtao, who was doing needlework nearby, also pricked her finger unexpectedly, and blood beaded out. She quickly put her finger in her mouth.

Should we go take a look?

Hongtao, standing nearby, volunteered, "Master, shall I go and take a look?"

“You?” Jiaming shook her head. “You’re no good. What if you find out or hear something you shouldn’t? You’ll be in trouble.” After all, Hongtao was just a maid and wouldn’t be taken seriously.

Thinking this, her body had already stood up and taken a step. Since that was the case, she might as well go and see for herself! Her position was relatively important.

She had only taken a few steps when she suddenly stopped, her gaze falling on the teapot and snacks on the table beside her. She blinked, smiled sweetly, and thought to herself, "That's a good excuse." Then, with a quick turn, she served the tea and snacks and headed to the next table, her eyes sparkling.

"Knock knock knock!"

Jiaming knocked on the door and said, "My lord, I've brought in some tea and snacks."

The Fourth Prince, who was about to unleash a tirade against Hongxuan inside the room, was suddenly disturbed by this. He frowned and said in a rather unfriendly tone, "Come in."

Hmph, just in time. Fourth Master couldn't contain his anger and took it out on someone else.

As for Xiao Hongxuan, seeing that his father's anger had shifted, he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

"Why send him snacks? He'll go hungry. It's true what they say, a doting mother spoils her son..." Jiaming, who had just entered, was so bewildered by Fourth Master's words that she didn't even have time to put down the tea and snacks she was holding.

But why? Unable to understand why the Fourth Master was angry, she finally mustered her courage and said while he paused, his mouth dry, "Master, please have some tea to calm down."

"Ha, calm down! Can you calm down?" As he said this, Fourth Master took the tea and gulped it down in one go.

Jiaming blinked, not quite understanding why he was so angry.

I've always been well-behaved, and Hongxuan has been quite obedient lately, not causing any trouble. I don't know what I'm upset about. Could it be something happening outside?

But something's not right. He wasn't like this during dinner. And, most importantly, he's taking his anger out on me. This familiar feeling... it's definitely Hongxuan trying to mess with his mother!

Just then, he heard his master's angry, deep voice: "Hongxuan!"

After drinking tea, Fourth Master's anger subsided somewhat, and he immediately turned his attention to the culprit.

"Ah, Father!" Little Hongxuan cried out inwardly, "What a disappointment!"

Fourth Master rambled on and on, his lips moving incessantly, and in front of Jiaming, he suddenly launched into another stern lecture about Hongxuan.

What did he mean by fooling his father? His apology wasn't sincere. What was he called cunning? Jiaming was confused and couldn't understand what trouble Hongxuan had gotten into this time.

Looking at the little guy with his head down, looking dejected after being scolded, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. So, I couldn't help but ask, "Master, what's wrong? What did Xuan'er do wrong again?"

With his head down, Hongxuan thought to himself: Mother is the best.

The Fourth Master, whose words were abruptly interrupted, turned his anger on Jia Ming and lashed out: "What's wrong with me? Humph, what a fine son you've raised."

Jiaming was caught off guard and her anger was directed at her again. She was stunned. "Ah? I don't know what you mean, Master?" At the same time, she thought to herself, "Really, if you're angry, at least give me a reason."

Just as he was inwardly grumbling, Fourth Master snorted coldly and continued, "At such a young age, he's already trying to fool his father by having others help him cheat. It's outrageous..."

What angered him even more was that he had just thought Hongxuan had been ambushed, only to find out it was all for nothing. This dramatic shift in his mood was quite upsetting. Of course, it was still better than the young prince actually being ambushed.

Jiaming was unaware of Fourth Master's earlier erroneous speculation. At this moment, she still refused to believe it, saying, "No way, Hongxuan, Hongxuan has been quite well-behaved lately." But, deep down, considering Hongxuan's personality, she somewhat believed that he was capable of such a thing.

"Ha, obedient? He'll be obedient?!" For once, Fourth Master showed his slightly sarcastic side. "Look at him, is he obedient?"

Looking at the paper with large characters that Fourth Master was pointing to, Jiaming picked it up and looked at a few copies. Then she suddenly realized that this was what Xuan'er meant by "almost finished"!

During the day, in the carriage, Hongxuan smugly boasted to Jiaming, "Hehe, Mother, my calligraphy practice is almost finished."

Since that day when he uttered those seven-word sentences, the little guy has become more and more fluent in his speech, and he has also mastered slightly longer sentences.
