Chapter 278 Good Stuff (Part Two)

"I see!" Jiaming paused for a moment, then said decisively, "Definitely not."

"Even if it's a good thing?" Fourth Master asked Jiaming with burning eyes.

Jiaming didn't answer directly, but asked, "Is the value of this precious thing equivalent to your own life?" The implication was that it wasn't, so it wasn't necessary to possess it.

Fourth Master didn't answer immediately. After thinking for a moment, he said, "The value of that good thing hasn't been determined yet. It's only possible that it has that value. But I believe it's not worth that value. Even if it is, if someone of a certain status takes it, the person who takes it will definitely suffer a tragedy."

“Since that’s what Master means, then we definitely can’t accept that so-called good thing!” Jiaming looked at Fourth Master speechlessly.

Fourth Master frowned. "But, those close to us want it."

“Then you should explain the consequences to him clearly. If it’s someone you’re close to, try to explain it to him in detail. If that person is reasonable, he will definitely listen to you,” Jiaming suggested without thinking.

The Fourth Master thought about Jiaming's words and found them reasonable, so he immediately stood up.

"Master, what's wrong?" Jiaming asked in surprise, looking at the Fourth Master's sudden actions.

The Fourth Master's expression softened considerably as he looked at Jiaming. "I have things to attend to, so I'll be leaving now. I'll remember your contribution today."

As soon as he finished speaking, Fourth Master strode away with his long legs and quickly disappeared from Jiaming's sight.

Jiaming finally snapped out of her daze. She blinked and looked at Hongtao, asking for confirmation: "Master just said he would remember my contributions?"

Hongtao nodded, "Yes, I heard it too."

Jiaming rested her chin on her hand, thinking. This credit must be due to what she had just said to the master. But what exactly did the master mean by asking her those questions?

What are good things?

Who is the person you are close to?

Who is this person with a specific identity?

But no matter how much he thought about it, he couldn't figure it out.

Damn it, Jiaming buried her head on the table on the couch, slamming her right hand on the table in frustration.

"Forget it, I don't want to think about it anymore." She lifted her head from the table, picked up the storybook, and started reading.

But with her conversation with the Fourth Master still on her mind, and the book's content being so dull, she found it even harder to concentrate on reading it.

Just as I was getting annoyed, Xiao Hezi arrived.

"Oh, Xiao Hezi, you're here." Jiaming was very happy to see Xiao Hezi.

Xiao Hezi's arrival meant that she could get some information from him, and this information was either interesting or thought-provoking; in short, most of it was something that would help her pass the time.

Xiao He felt a warm glow inside when he saw how happy his master was to have him.

It has to be said, this was truly a wonderful misunderstanding.

"My lord, I have something to report regarding the matter concerning the Fujin (princess's wife)."

Jiaming's eyes lit up instantly. The Fujin had been calm for a long time. Was she about to make some move?

She was somewhat looking forward to seeing what tricks the Fujin would use, since she felt these tricks couldn't possibly be used against her, but rather against Niohuru, who was currently selecting concubines in the palace.

As expected of the Fujin (principal wife), she's quite domineering. In such a strict environment as the palace, she dared to do something under the tiger's nose. Tsk tsk tsk, "Little He, tell me quickly, how is the Fujin doing?"

"Today, the master went to the wife's courtyard. It seems that the master and the wife talked about something. The servants could not get too close, so we cannot know what the master and the wife talked about. We only know that the master left in a rage in the end."

"That's it?!" Jiaming's straight posture instantly collapsed, her face filled with disappointment.

Little Hezi, noticing Jiaming's disappointment, quickly explained, "No, there's more later."

"Oh?" Jiaming straightened up instantly, her eyes fixed intently on Xiao Hezi, eager to hear what he would say next.

"Although my servants did not hear what the master and the princess said, there were people left in the room when the master and the princess were talking."

As Jiaming listened, several names flashed through her mind in an instant: Granny Liu, Liu Hong, Yao Huang... It was probably one or more of these people.

Sure enough, Xiao Hezi said, "Although I don't know how many people were left behind, Granny Liu must have been there too."

"How did you know?" Red Peach, who was listening attentively, couldn't help but ask.

Xiao He chuckled, "That Granny Liu isn't one to keep quiet. She seems to have a problem with the master, and someone happened to overhear her muttering, which then reached our ears."

Jiaming knew that Granny Liu; she really did have that kind of personality. But what she really wanted to know was, "What was Granny Liu muttering about?"

"Complaining about what Master said." Little Hezi imitated Liu Mama's voice, "Master is really something. The Fujin (principal wife) was clearly doing this for the Fourteenth Prince's good, specially finding him a respectable princess, yet she says the Fujin has ulterior motives!"

After saying that, Xiao Hezi said, "All the information I found out is here, nothing else."

Jiaming nodded indifferently. Her mind was completely focused on what Xiao Hezi had just learned, which was the passage that Granny Liu had muttered.

As she thought about it, her eyes grew brighter and brighter; clearly, she seemed to have figured something out.

However, she frowned, still somewhat unsure, and needed to confirm some things before she could be certain of her guess.

After thinking for a moment, she looked at Xiao Hezi and asked, "Did the master come directly to our Peach Courtyard after leaving the Fujin's courtyard?"

Xiao He nodded without hesitation, "Yes."

Jiaming's eyes suddenly lit up, and she excitedly placed her hands on the table, saying, "Yes, that's it, it should be just like I thought."

"What do you think?" Xiao Hezi asked curiously.

Hongtao, standing nearby, also wanted to know, so she looked at Jiaming expectantly, hoping that she could answer her question.

Jiaming first relayed the conversation that Fourth Master had just had with her, and before she could continue, she saw Xiao Hezi's expression of sudden realization.

"You guessed it too, didn't you, Little He?"

Xiao Hezi nodded. "If this servant is not mistaken, is it?"

“Then let’s compare our guesses.” Jiaming first shared her guess: “I think the good thing that Master is talking about must be Niohuru. After all, even the whole Peach Garden has heard that there is a very lucky one among this year’s candidates. I think Niohuru is the lucky princess that Granny Liu is talking about.”

As soon as Jiaming finished speaking, Xiao Hezi immediately followed up, "And the person that Master said is close to wants this person, then it is very likely to be the Fourteenth Prince or the Thirteenth Prince, after all, one is Master's own younger brother, and the other has always been close to Master."

“I don’t think so,” Jiaming offered a different guess.

Xiao Hezi asked with a mixture of doubt and curiosity, "Then what do you mean, Master?"

“Even though I haven’t had much contact with the two princes, I’ve heard about them and can roughly guess what kind of people they are.”

Xiao Hezi nodded, agreeing that this was indeed correct.
