Chapter 397 The Crown Prince's Awakening

As expected, Emperor Kangxi summoned his court officials to the temporary palace, announced the crimes of Crown Prince Yinreng, and ordered the Fourth Prince and the First Prince, Prince Zhi, to arrest him. He also ordered that Yinreng be sent back to Beijing for confinement shortly afterward. Furthermore, Emperor Kangxi deposed Crown Prince Yinreng and promulgated the decree throughout the empire.

The imperial decree has been issued; nothing can be changed.

As a result, the eldest prince, flattered by others, gradually became more and more confused as time went by.

The other princes, however, were all secretly excited, though to varying degrees. They saw a glimmer of hope in ascending to that position.

The Fourth Prince was also secretly excited, but he still felt uneasy. After all, his beloved Crown Prince, the Second Prince who had always been good to him, had been deposed. And his closest brother, the Thirteenth Prince, had also been imprisoned by his father. He was very worried and tried his best to comfort him.

So, while carrying out the imperial order to guard the Crown Prince, the Fourth Prince finally found an opportunity to ask the Emperor for a decree to see the Thirteenth Prince.

However, the emperor's attitude was really not good.

It doesn't seem like the thirteenth brother just said something nice for the crown prince. Did the thirteenth brother say something else?

When the Fourth Prince met the Thirteenth Prince, he asked him what had happened and learned that the Thirteenth Prince's words, which seemed to be defending the Crown Prince, were actually adding fuel to the fire and making the Emperor more certain that he wanted to depose the Crown Prince.

"You, why did you do this?" The Fourth Prince looked at the Thirteenth Prince in disbelief, then added, "How could you possibly do this?"

The Thirteenth Prince smiled, "Fourth Brother, that's good, you still believe in me, that's good!"

Fourth Master suddenly realized, "There's definitely something fishy going on here. Thirteenth Brother, tell your Fourth Brother why you did this. Second Brother, the Crown Prince, after all, hasn't wronged us... you..."

"Fourth Brother," the Thirteenth Prince interrupted the Fourth Prince. He glanced in the direction of the Crown Prince's confinement and said, "No matter what, the matter has been done. Fourth Brother, don't worry about my affairs. This is my own choice. Just do your job."

The Fourth Prince glanced in the direction where the Crown Prince was being held, then suddenly realized, and murmured to himself, "Has he already come to this realization?"

The thirteenth prince heard this, but he did not reply.

As for the Fourth Master, he didn't need an answer; he already understood.

Upon hearing his subordinates report the conversation between the Fourth Prince and the Thirteenth Prince, the Emperor angrily smashed the teacup in his hand.

"Ah, enlightenment. Things failed, so of course one has this enlightenment."
