However, no matter how hard he tried to hide it, the Fourth Prince still found out.
The Fourth Master, with a dark face, glared at Jiaming, then looked back at his youngest son, Hongjing, who was gradually calming down and only sobbing a little.
"Do you realize your mistake?"
The Fourth Master's dark face and chilling tone made Hongjing flinch, but the little guy was really brave. Despite his fear, he still dared to argue in front of the Fourth Master.
"That's right!"
"That's right!" Fourth Master gritted his teeth.
Hongjing glanced at Fourth Master and muttered under his breath, "Didn't you say you wanted to earn your own money?"
The Fourth Prince was furious! Was this the mistake he was referring to? No!
The little guy suddenly realized, "Oh, I understand!"
The Fourth Prince's expression finally softened; he knew where he had gone wrong, and he would correct it.
Hongjing: "Your son forgot to share the money with you, Father. You grew these vegetables; I was only responsible for selling them. You should have a share of the money."
Jiaming looked at Hongjing, who seemed to think she was right, and then at the Fourth Master's darkened face. She couldn't help but cast a sympathetic glance at Hongjing.
Sure enough, after Hongjing finished speaking, Fourth Master said to Hongjing in a very dangerous tone, "Is it because we didn't get a share of the money?"
No? That's even better!
Thinking about it, Hongjing's eyes lit up, and then a look of joy flashed across them.
Jiaming: "..." This kid is such a money-grubber, he's happily courting death even with his grandfather's stern face on his face.
Sure enough, Fourth Master grabbed Hongjing, pressed him onto his knees again, and slapped his buttocks with another sound.
Hongjing was stunned, and sobbed as he accused, "What's wrong with making money by selling vegetables? Didn't you say that you should earn your own money? Mother said that doing business is the most profitable thing, and money earned without breaking the law is good."
The Fourth Prince took a deep breath, thought for a moment, and, suppressing his emotions, said to him, "What is your status? You are the Fifth Prince of the Prince Yong, and you're just making a big show of selling vegetables on the street like this. Is that a good look?"
The little guy understood a bit; it meant that it was too embarrassing for him to sell vegetables like this. Just like how he felt ashamed when his father spanked him in front of others.
Thinking about it, the little guy awkwardly covered his face with his hands. However, compared to losing face, making money was more important.
So he lowered his hand from his face and asked dejectedly, "Then how am I supposed to make money? Can I sell something else instead of vegetables?"
Fourth Master: "..." Still thinking about making money?!
Jiaming couldn't help but chuckle, but she also knew that the little guy was still a bit confused and didn't fully understand why he was angry with Fourth Master.
With the intention of educating her son in mind, she said, "You can let the servants sell it; you don't have to do it yourself."
She paused, then, under Hongjing's bright gaze, she explained, "So, actually, selling vegetables can continue. Your mother sells them too, but she had the servants open a shop and bring vegetables produced in the estate to sell."
The little guy suddenly realized, "Son understands."
Fourth Master listened to Jiaming and Hongjing's conversation with a dark expression, but did not interrupt.
Because he approves of Jiaming's teaching at this moment.
After the mother and son finished speaking, the Fourth Prince snorted coldly at Hongjing, and then asked the guard who had gone out with Hongjing and helped him sell vegetables about what had happened.
The guard hesitated for a moment, but still didn't utter a single word.
The Fourth Prince suddenly had a strong premonition of something bad. He calmed himself down and shouted at the guard, "Speak!"
"All the vegetables have been sold!" The little guy, seeing his father's posture, had a bad feeling and couldn't help but interject with a vague sentence to sum it up.
But Fourth Master wasn't buying it. He asked in a deep voice, word by word, "How much did you sell it for?"
The little guy fell silent and dared not say anything more.
The guard replied somewhat awkwardly, "I sold it for 20% more than the market price."
The Fourth Prince looked at the guard without saying a word, clearly realizing that he seemed to be hiding something.
The guard was on the verge of tears. How could the master be so shrewd? Sigh, it was impossible to hide it from him. He would find out with just a little inquiry. He hoped that the master would not be angry with him after finding out.
"The prince said these vegetables were grown by the prince and the other princes in the manor themselves, making them rarer than those grown by ordinary people, so..."
"So we raised the price by 20% to sell it!!" Fourth Master's face was as cold as ice.
The guard nodded.
Fourth Prince turned his head, looked at Hongjing and sneered, "I didn't expect that my Fifth Prince would be so good at business, even knowing how to use my reputation. Ha, all this empty talk, saying that these vegetables were grown by me and the princes in the mansion, I wonder how many people will believe what you, a mere child, say and be ripped off by buying these overpriced vegetables?"
Hongjing lowered his head, not daring to look at his father's expression. However, the little guy was clearly not convinced by his father's words that no one would believe him when he was just a child, and couldn't help but mutter softly, "Yes, the uncles and elders all bought some."
"What!" The sharp-eared Fourth Master couldn't help but sway.
His forehead veins throbbed as he glared at Hongjing and asked, word by word, "You just said that all the uncles and elders bought them?!"
Hongjing ran behind Jiaming in fear, staying close behind her, not daring to look at his father or speak.
The Fourth Prince looked at the guard, whose forehead was covered in cold sweat despite it being the dead of winter.
"I first met the Third Master, who recognized me first, and then he recognized the Third Prince, who looks seven-tenths like you. Then, the Third Master bought it, followed by the Fifth Master, the Ninth Master, the Eighth Master, and so on..."
Fourth Master waved his hand to indicate that there was no need to say any more. He rubbed his forehead, feeling dizzy.
Hongxuan had only just grown up and stopped causing trouble for his father, and had only been quiet for two years when another son came along to cause trouble for his father. Thinking of the days when his son had caused trouble for him in the past, and that it would continue in the future, no, from now on, the Fourth Master's face grew darker and more helpless.
