Chapter 8 Yuan Yan, you madman, snatches a bride in the street!
According to the wedding customs of the Phoenix Kingdom, Yuan Jing's wedding procession will pass through the widest and most prosperous street on the main road of the capital.
People could watch the ceremony from both sides of the street. To prevent any accidents from happening, guards were stationed along the way to prevent the people from disturbing the wedding procession.
"Boss, let's take a break. It's the Prince of Qi's wedding; who would dare cause trouble at a time like this? Let's relax for now and be on guard again when the troops are almost there," a tired guard whispered to the guard captain.
“No, the wedding of King Qi cannot afford the slightest mishap, or we’ll all be dead. Hold on a little longer, King Qi’s wedding procession will be here soon. Once this is settled, I’ll treat you ladies to a drink,” the guard captain said to his men.
At this point, the red lights at the head of the wedding procession could already be seen at the end of the street.
However, at that very moment, the most unlikely accident, as the guard had described, actually occurred.
Disguised as an ordinary citizen, Xue Lang and the other guards of the Yue Prince's Mansion quietly lurked among the crowd.
"Now, make your move." Xue Lang gestured as he finally spotted the tall horse at the front.
Then, in the next moment, something happened that caused the previously orderly crowd to suddenly become noisy and chaotic.
The crowd pushed and shoved, surging and jostling. The wedding procession was almost upon them, but the whole street was in chaos.
The guards shouted at the people to stop, but when they ignored them, they even resorted to violence. However, this action not only failed to quell the unrest but also caused the situation to spiral out of control.
Yuan Jing noticed something was wrong ahead, pulled on the reins, and frowned in displeasure. "Guards! What's going on? Stop the horses!"
She tried to stop the group behind her, but it was too late.
The long wedding procession was broken into several sections by the crowd and scattered. Even the bridal sedan chair in which Lu Lingyue was carried was swept to the back by the crowd.
Lu Lingyue was sitting quietly in the sedan chair when he suddenly felt the chair shake and heard a noisy, chaotic sound around him, which made him realize that something was wrong.
On such a special day, where did all this noise come from? What's going on?
He couldn't see anything because his face was covered by a veil. He slightly raised his hand, wanting to call out to his male attendant, "Hengwu, what's happening outside..."
Before she could finish speaking, Lu Lingyue's shout didn't bring Hengwu back, but instead called out to someone else.
The next moment, a pair of hands suddenly lifted the sedan curtain.
Before Lu Lingyue could react, the woman who had rushed into the sedan chair wrapped her arms around his waist and lifted him up in a strong embrace.
Who is it?
With a playful chuckle, a familiar voice rang out, "It's me, Yue'er. I've come to take you back to the manor."
The voice was… Lu Lingyue’s heart skipped a beat, and Yuan Yan casually ripped off the veil on her head.
"Your Highness, what are you doing?"
When their eyes met, and seeing her rough actions, Lu Lingyue's usually indifferent face showed surprise and panic for the first time.
"What are you doing?" Yuan Yan laughed. "Can't you tell what I'm doing?"
“It’s obvious that I’m trying to steal your bride,” Yuan Yan said, emphasizing each word.
"Second Prince, are you crazy? This is a marriage approved by His Majesty. How could you do such a thing in public? What will you do if His Majesty finds out... Put me down before anyone notices." Lu Lingyue said anxiously, and seeing that Yuan Yan seemed unmoved, she couldn't help but pat Yuan Yan's arm.
"What can we do about it? Our marriage was arranged by our fathers and ministers, yet you still went back on your word."
"Don't worry, I was mentally prepared to do this. If the Empress Dowager is furious, it will only mean my death," Yuan Yan deliberately provoked him.
Death? Yuan Yan would rather die than not take him… Lu Lingyue’s breath caught in her throat, her mind reeling from those words, a thousand emotions churning within her, leaving her speechless for a moment.
After a long while, he finally spoke in a dry voice.
“Ayan, our Lu family has wronged you in this matter. There are countless good men in this world. Without me, you will find a better man to match you... Don’t ruin your future because of this... You should leave quickly. I will not tell the King of Qi about this.”
"Lu Lingyue, are you saying this because you're afraid I'll die, or because you don't want me to ruin your marriage to Prince Qi?" Yuan Yan sneered, ignoring his words completely.
"It's a pity that it's too late to say that now. Now that I've already started, there's no way I can stop now."
As Yuan Yan spoke, he completely ignored Lu Lingyue's struggles, threw him onto the horse, and then mounted himself and galloped forward.
Amidst the chaos, Yuan Jing suddenly spotted a fast horse charging toward him.
Upon closer inspection, the person on horseback turned out to be Yuan Yan.
Yuan Jing was shocked; she had taken away Yuan Yan's marriage proposal. She had thought that Yuan Yan would be helpless since he had no token to prove the marriage, and after so many days of silence, she could only swallow this bitter pill.
Who would have thought that Yuan Yan would be so bold? Seeing that he couldn't find a wife, he actually snatched her away in the street on her wedding day!
"Yuan Yan! How dare you steal a bride? Put her down at once!" Yuan Jing was shocked and furious. He subconsciously took a few steps forward and scolded Yuan Yan.
"Eldest sister, you must be confused. Lady Lu was originally my person. This is just returning her to her rightful owner. How can you say it's a case of kidnapping a bride?" Yuan Yan scoffed lightly, ignoring her completely, and instead quickened her pace.
That madman!
Seeing that she showed no sign of stopping, Yuan Jing gritted his teeth and shouted to the guards, "All of you, get her! Stop her!"
The guards of the Prince of Qi's mansion immediately took action and surrounded Yuan Yan.
Yuan Yan, however, calmly raised his spear and swept it horizontally with the momentum of his horse's forward charge. The spear tip flashed with a cold light, and in a split second, it sent all the approaching guards flying.
After clearing a path, Yuan Yan didn't bother with them anymore and immediately spurred his horse forward.
"Elder sister, thank you for bringing your husband from so far away. I, Yuan Yan, will accept this handsome young man." Yuan Yan laughed heartily.
Under Yuan Jing's gaze, which seemed to want to devour her alive, Yuan Yan brazenly abducted Lu Lingyue and sped away.
"Yuan Yan, you are incredibly audacious to have done such a thing! I will definitely report this to the Empress Dowager and have her issue a decree to punish you!"
Yuan Jing hadn't expected her martial arts to be so formidable, that even so many guards couldn't stop her. He took a few steps forward, roaring angrily in the direction Yuan Yan had left, veins bulging on his face, his eyes filled with intense, surging hatred.
He then immediately ordered his guards to pursue Yuan Yan while turning back to the palace to meet the emperor.
