Chapter 97 Reunion

By the time they reached the fifth floor, Lin Xi's hands were trembling slightly.

The sixth floor was the quietest, and the corridors were empty. Lin Xi sensed a dangerous atmosphere from this unusual setting.

Imagine, why would a mountain forest teeming with wild animals be completely silent? The only answer is that there are tigers guarding the mountains.

Is it really time to encounter high-level zombies?

I don't know how effective Level 4 mind control will be against high-level zombies, but I'll give it a try.

I waited a while longer.

Lin Xi found it strange; why wasn't the system indicating the level of danger?

Does this mean that all my previous guesses were wrong?

With this question in mind, Lin Xi locked the last door. She checked three or four rooms in a row, but they were all empty.

Does that mean there are no zombies on the sixth floor?

Isn't Dad here either?

Lin Xi had an indescribable feeling in her heart. There were two possibilities for why her father wasn't here. One was that he might have had a direct confrontation with the zombies and died. Of course, Lin Xi didn't like this possibility.

Another possibility is that, for some reason, the father left this place.

Looking at the remaining rooms in front of her, Lin Xi knew that things were not yet settled. Even if the hope was slim, she would still open the last door.

Just as she grasped the doorknob of the last door, the thick wooden door suddenly shattered into pieces with a loud bang!

A red figure, like a ghost, attacked her at incredible speed!

Lin Xi was stunned. The first thing she thought of after she came to her senses was to curse the system.

—You bastard, you didn't even bother to remind me!

The system did not respond.

But Lin Xi simply couldn't keep her attention on this; the high-level zombies in front of her were already enough to give her a hard time.

Passive superpowers are automatically activated.

When Lin Xi opened her eyes again, she was surprised to find that the movements of the high-level zombie in front of her were as if they were in slow motion, and there was even a blurry shadow that was faster than the red figure.

This is... her attack path!

Lin Xi then realized that this was a new skill unlocked at level three of Soul Search!

Unfortunately, the high-level zombie moved too fast; even in slow motion, Lin Xi couldn't even make out its face.

A sense of powerlessness washed over me; I realized I wasn't fast enough.

They don't even need to use mind control...

A hand easily gripped her throat, and Lin Xi closed her eyes in despair...

To her surprise, the expected pain didn't come, and she opened her eyes in confusion.

She finally saw the zombie's face clearly.

She looked at him with a puzzled expression, her lips slightly parted, "Third brother?"

His tone was uncertain, as if he didn't understand why the third brother was here.

"Big sister?" Lin Xi was also very shocked. "What are you doing in the city?"

It's clearly not a short distance.

Now she finally understood why the system hadn't given her a notification—it was an acquaintance… no, a familiar zombie!

Realizing that the third sister's voice sounded strange, she then realized that it was because she was still choking her. So she quickly let go and gently blew on the sister's reddened neck with a pained expression.

"Third brother, why aren't you saying anything?"

Lin Xi was on the verge of tears. "You were too fast. I couldn't even see your face clearly. I didn't even recognize you before you started pinching me."

The older sister cupped her face and said, "Don't cry, okay?"

Lin Xi: "..."

She hadn't cried, but when she looked at her face in the mirror opposite her, it was bright red, and her eyes were also red and swollen, making her look like she had indeed been crying.

He put his other hand on her shoulder.

Lin Xi turned around and saw a face full of flattery.

"Waiter? You're here too!"

Did they move here together?

He gestured haphazardly, which Lin Xi barely understood. "You mean the pile of crystal cores you specially saved for me? I received them! They're all in my bag!"

As she spoke, Lin Xi patted her seemingly empty bag.

The waiter was taken aback. Why was it empty?

He scratched his head and continued gesturing.

First, he shook Lin Xi's magic pocket, which startled Lin Xi so much that her face turned pale. She thought he was going to snatch it, but then he frowned. It turned out that he didn't hear a sound and thought that Lin Xi's crystal cores had run out again.

Then he patted his chest and pointed behind him.

Following the direction he pointed, Lin Xi saw several mid-level zombies huddled together, trembling.

Let's analyze Xiao Er's actions in conjunction with this picture.

Lin Xi finally understood what he meant. It seemed like he was saying, "Don't worry, there's plenty of crystal cores. We'll give you as many as you want!"

Look how scared the zombies behind them are.

The eldest sister pushed him away, her face cold and indifferent. "You've said enough. It's time for the third brother to talk to me."

The waiter, all smiles, tactfully stepped aside.

Lin Xi glanced at the group of zombies behind him and actually saw a hint of fawning in their eyes. "Second Brother, who is this?"

The second child made a three with his fingers!

The group instantly looked at her with respect.

Lin Xi shuddered violently. What kind of bizarre art style was this? So the so-called zombie army that everyone had been worried about for so long was actually orchestrated by Big Sister and Little Waiter?

Lin Xi subtly inquired about her elder sister's purpose.

Sure enough, the eldest sister was bored, so she went south and dealt with a lot of mid-level zombies.

Some of them even had followers, and so, unintentionally, their ranks grew larger and larger, eventually posing a threat to humanity.

This misunderstanding... could be quite serious.

Humanity has begun to regroup and prepare for the future "great war," and this matter is not something that can be easily dismissed.
