Chapter 1: Sending the Wrong Jade Plate

Chapter 1: Sending the Wrong Jade Plate

Inside the Wentian Sect's residence, Yun Jing frowned, stroking the stubble on his chin. He sighed, stroking it again, and sighed again. Ying Yueke patted his shoulder, annoyed, "What's the point of sighing?" "I want a solution." Yun Jing threw his hands up, helpless in the face of his wife's accusations. "What girl would be interested in Ruchen with his condition?" Covering his face with his palms, Yun Jing patted the armrest and sighed, "He's useless, he's useless." He waved his hand, "I don't expect him to inherit the position of Sect Leader anymore. Let him stay in the sect as an annoying and idle elder." "I have enough dignity to protect him until the end." Yun Jing held his forehead, feeling a headache. He had been a brilliant man in his youth, so how could he have given birth to such a disappointing son? The shame was small, but there was also the worry about his life. "I don't have any expectations for my son. I just hope my grandchildren won't disappoint." Ying Yueke sneered, "Grandchildren? It's still uncertain whether your son will win the girl's favor!" "Forget about being a good match. The girl wouldn't look down on such a lazy fellow." "I'm afraid even the ordinary disciples in the sect would look down on him." Yun Jing looked outside. "The news of the marriage has spread. Even if it's not good enough, he's still the son of the sect master. It's not like even a disciple would look down on him." Ying Yueke turned his head and gathered his sleeves around his legs to straighten them. "It's been noon since morning. The deacon reported that there were only three identity jade tokens." Yun Jing's attitude was positive, and he even breathed a sigh of relief. "Something is better than nothing." If he didn't get a single identity jade token, who knows what kind of jokes would be spread. Ying Yueke was furious and glared at Yun Jing angrily. After staring at each other for a few seconds, both of them deflated. On the way to the Sword Tomb, Feng Jingluo clutched her identity jade token, lost in thought. The palm-sized, hollowed-out white jade featured a carved pine tree at its center. In her haste to reach the Sword Tomb for training, she'd forgotten to register. The forbidden ground was about to open, and she didn't know how long she'd have to wait to receive her identity token. What if she missed the opportunity to enter? She turned and was about to rush to the Jade Platform when a figure emerged from the Sword Tomb. "Senior Sister!" Xiong Guiyue called out in delight. Meeting her so soon after leaving the Sword Tomb was truly a stroke of luck. Her blue dress fluttered as she walked, and she blinked her crescent-shaped eyes, gazing at Feng Jingluo with sparkling eyes. "Junior Sister," Feng Jingluo paused and turned. Accustomed to her sister's indifferent demeanor, Xiong Guiyue inquired curiously, "Where are you going? Why are you leaving the Sword Tomb so soon after arriving?" Feng Jingluo raised her jade...

Wentian Sect

In the clan leader's residence, Yun Jing frowned and raised his head, stroking the stubble on his chin. He sighed, stroked it again, and sighed again.

Ying Yueke patted his shoulder and said unhappily, "What's the point of sighing?"

"I want a solution."

Yun Jing threw up his hands, helpless in the face of his wife's accusations. "Ruchen is like that. Which girl would be interested in him?"

Covering his face with his palms, Yun Jing slapped the armrest and sighed, "It's useless. He is useless."

He waved his hand: "I no longer expect him to inherit the position of Sect Leader. Let him stay in the sect and be an annoying and idle elder."

"I still have enough dignity to protect him until death." Yun Jing held his forehead, feeling a headache.

He was a very handsome man when he was young, so why did he give birth to such an unpromising son?

Being embarrassed is a small matter, but we also have to worry about his life.

"I don't have any expectations for my son, I just hope my grandchildren won't disappoint me."

Ying Yueke sneered: "Grandchildren? It's still unknown whether your son can win the favor of the girl!"

"Forget about being a good match. The girl won't be interested in such a lazy guy."

"I'm afraid that ordinary disciples in the sect will look down on him."

Yun Jing looked outside and said, "The news of the marriage has spread. No matter how bad it is, he is still the son of the sect leader. It is impossible that even a half-disciple would look down on him."

Ying Yueke tilted his head and pulled his sleeves up his legs to straighten them. "It's already noon since this morning. The deacon reported that there are only three identity jade tokens."

Yun Jing was in a good mood, even relieved. "Something is better than nothing."

If I don’t even get an identity jade token, I don’t know what kind of joke will be spread.

Ying Yueke was furious and looked at Yun Jing angrily. After staring at each other for a few seconds, both of them lost their temper.

On the way to the sword tomb, Feng Jingluo was holding the identity jade card in deep thought. It was a palm-sized hollow white jade with a green pine carved in the center.

She was so anxious to go to the Sword Tomb to train that she forgot to register. The forbidden area was about to open, and she didn't know how long she would have to wait for the training. What if she delayed sending her identity jade token and missed the forbidden area?

She turned around and was about to rush to the Jade Platform when a figure walked out of the Sword Tomb.

"Senior Sister!" Xiong Guiyue called out with surprise. It was such good luck that she could meet her senior sister right after leaving the Sword Tomb.

As she walked, her blue dress fluttered, and she blinked her moon-like eyes, staring at Feng Jingluo with sparkling eyes.

"Junior sister." Feng Jingluo stopped and turned around.

Xiong Guiyue had long been accustomed to her senior sister's indifferent attitude and asked curiously, "Where are you going, senior sister? Why are you leaving right after arriving at the Sword Tomb?"

Feng Jingluo held up the jade token. His bony fingers were barely covered by flesh from years of sword practice. "I was in such a hurry when I got here that I forgot to give the jade token to the deacon to register for the forbidden area."

Xiong Guiyue slapped her forehead. She had almost forgotten that the forbidden area was about to open and that they were currently recruiting disciples. She had already handed in the jade token before entering the sword tomb. It wasn't surprising that her senior sister had forgotten this, as she had been immersed in cultivation for years.

"Let me deliver the jade token on behalf of Senior Sister." She said, "Don't delay Senior Sister's cultivation."

Feng Jingluo thought for a moment and handed the jade token over. "Please trouble you, Junior Sister."

Xiong Guiyue happily took the jade token and said, "No trouble! Senior Sister, go practice now."

Holding the cold jade token, Xiong Guiyue was as light as a swallow and disappeared into the sky in an instant.

Feng Jingluo withdrew his gaze and walked into the sword tomb.

The Wentian Sect resides atop a mountain peak and consists of three floors. The ground floor houses the disciples, while the middle floor is where deacons handle affairs, elders teach, and disciples cultivate. The upper floor is where the sect leader and the elders reside for quiet retreat.

The deacons were currently waiting at the Jade Platform for applicants to present their jade tokens. A massive circular platform suspended high on the middle mountainside served as the venue for all sect events, large and small.

There was a distance from the Sword Tomb to the Jade Platform, but halfway there Xiong Guiyue heard someone calling her.

She stopped and slowly fell from the air. She couldn't stay in the air for long now.

"Junior brother?" The person who came was Lin Qiao, a disciple of Jiange, who ranked after her.

"Where are you going, Senior Sister?" Lin Qiao asked casually. "Master is looking for you. I didn't see you at the Sword Tomb, so I had to look for you everywhere. I tried to contact you with the communication jade token, but you didn't respond."

Xiong Guiyue then noticed the jade token on her waist flickering. "I'm in a hurry to deliver the identity token to Senior Sister, and I can't delay the registration for the Forbidden Land."

"Is the Master's matter urgent?"

"I don't know, Master didn't say it clearly." Lin Qiao looked at the jade token in Xiong Guiyue's hand. Is this the jade token of the eldest sister?

His voice jumped with joy: "Why don't I go and deliver it for Senior Sister? It would be bad if it delayed Master's work."

As he spoke, he stretched out his hand, and Xiong Guiyue placed the jade token in his hand with a dejected look and a look of reluctance.

"You're lucky." She had no choice but to rush to Jiange.

Lin Qiao carefully held the jade token and flew to the jade platform on his sword.

Falling on the gray stone surface, one can see the interweaving of figures. In the distance, several shops are crowded with many disciples buying things.

Nearby, between two stone pillars with coiled dragons, there were two tables. Behind the tables, a deacon wearing a gray robe embroidered with silver patterns sat, watching the disciples coming and going.

There were only a few people at one table, and no one at the other.

Lin Qiao couldn't even fly without his sword, so the opening of the forbidden area had nothing to do with him. After some thought, he realized that registration had been going on for several days, so few people should be late. So he walked straight to the empty table and placed the jade token on it.

The butler, who had been listless, suddenly widened his eyes, looked at him with a ghostly expression, his lips trembling, as if he wanted to say something.

Finally, he lowered his head in silence.

Lin Qiao walked away in confusion. Could it be that he saw that his realm was low and thought that he was the one who signed up, so he reacted like this?

Lin Qiao flew towards the sword tomb indignantly. Don't look down on others. He will be able to go to the forbidden area sooner or later.

It was not until dusk that fog rose in the forest. The flaming clouds dyed the mist red, as if the entire sect was placed in a furnace.

Yun Jing and Ying Yueke did not dare to go to the jade platform to check the jade plate, so they had to ask the deacon to bring it to them.

He wanted to let his son choose the woman he liked personally, but when the boy heard the news, he ran to the top of the mountain to hide and refused to come down.

The tray containing the jade plaque was placed on the table, covered with a red cloth, and neither of them had the courage to lift it.

In the end, Ying Yueke couldn't help it and used his hands to pull open the red cloth. Seeing the four jade tablets placed inside, he felt so sad that his face turned even more worried.

"Never mind, four jade tokens are not too few." If the son of another clan leader were to marry, he would definitely marry the daughter of a clan leader of equal status, or a sect prodigy. But in their case, not even a few of their own disciples would be interested in their son.

Ying Yueke raised his finger with a dead heart and tapped the first jade token. The jade token lit up and a woman in a green dress appeared in the void.

He has heroic features and a tall and strong figure.

"This is a disciple from the Body Pavilion." The disciples in the Body Pavilion rely on physical training for cultivation, and being tall and strong is a standard feature.

Yun Jing held the armrest and said expressionlessly, "She can beat Ruchen to death."

Ying Yueke glared at him.

When the second jade card was clicked, a woman in white appeared with gentle features and a bright smile.

Ying Yueke nodded. This girl is pretty good. She looks likable and most importantly, she is like a gentle child.

Yun Jing glanced at him and said, "This is a disciple from Dan Pavilion. He burned his master to death because his alchemy furnace exploded some time ago. He has just been put in solitary confinement for a while."

Yun Jing couldn't laugh: "Is she trying to use Ruchen to test the medicine?"

Ying Yueke glared at her again.

"Ruchen is healthy after all. After all, she is our child." She said, "Now that someone is willing to marry her, what else do you want?"

Yun Jing covered his face, unwilling to face the cruel reality. He waved his hand: "Next."

The third jade token lit up, revealing a woman with a sturdy physique. Even though her image was only the size of a palm, she was estimated to be about 1.8 to 1.9 meters tall. She was wearing a sleeveless gray shirt and shorts. She had a simple smile and her hands on her hips, her muscles strong.

"A disciple of the Qi Pavilion." Yun Jing said, "This one can also kill Ruchen."

Ying Yueke was speechless: "Even if Ruchen was a little more lazy, he wouldn't have been beaten like this."

She lit up the fourth jade token, and the figure that appeared made the two of them freeze.

Yun Jing's body slid and he sat down on the ground. In his surprise, he forgot to control his spiritual power and pulled the armrest of the chair off.

"The wind is falling!"

Yun Jing's voice changed tone, and Ying Yueke felt dizzy.

Her joining the sect wasn't unusual back then, as she became a disciple of the Sword Pavilion elders, yet she rose to prominence, surpassing the contemporary prodigies. Now, Yun Jing couldn't even snatch her away from the disciple. If she weren't the most likely to survive the thunder tribulation and ascend, Yun Jing would have even considered passing the position of sect leader to her.

Such a genius sent the jade token over.

Yun Jing clasped his hands together before his forehead and muttered, "I'm burning the incense! I'm truly burning the incense! Smoke is rising from the ancestral tomb! I thank my ancestors, and thank the successive patriarchs for their blessings."

Ying Yueke carefully picked up the jade token and checked it repeatedly for fear that he had read it wrong.

"It's really Feng Jingluo." She couldn't believe it. "How could she possibly fall for Ruchen?"

"It doesn't matter!" Yun Jing waved his hand: "Even if you kill Ruchen, I will accept it."

Ying Yueke raised her eyelids and rolled her eyes at him. "I think I'd better ask to avoid making a mistake."

She rested her chin on her hand and crossed her legs leisurely. "I don't think Feng Jingluo will fall for Ruchen."

Yun Jing thought so too, and his excited heart calmed down. He called someone to ask about Feng Jingluo's whereabouts, and learned that she had entered the sword tomb.

Yun Jing clapped his hands in delight: "Look how sincere the child is. He immediately entered the Sword Tomb after giving the jade token, not even giving himself a chance to regret."

He smiled so hard that the corners of his mouth almost reached behind his ears. "I'm going to notify the entire sect and send invitations to other sects!"

"I want to see the faces of those old guys when the time comes, and let them laugh at my son's incompetence."

He laughed out loud several times, his back straighter than ever.

Ying Yueke poured cold water on him. "I think we should wait until Feng Jingluo comes out. I have a feeling this is a mistake."

"It just so happens that the forbidden area is opened. Perhaps the jade token was sent to the wrong place."

"Impossible!" Yun Jing shook his head repeatedly. His son was favored by Feng Jingluo, and the jade token was right here. How could it be wrong?

He muttered to himself, "We must quickly set a date. This is a big deal. We need to record this in the sect's annals: on such and such a day, the sect leader's son was chosen by the sect's genius, Feng Jingluo, and they married."

"What a wonderful story!" Yun Jing clapped his hands and exclaimed, the smile never leaving his face.

"Madam!" He stood up suddenly. "Let's go now and spread the news first."

Seeing her husband grinning like a fool, Ying Yueke looked away in disdain. She played with Feng Jingluo's jade token in her hand. Could it be that Ruchen was really in her sight?

this...

Ying Yueke really didn't know whether to be happy or sigh at Feng Jingluo's gaze.

She knew her son's capabilities well, and if he really married Feng Jingluo, she was afraid of delaying him.

Ying Yueke looked at the jade token and asked, "Was this identity jade token delivered by Feng Jingluo personally?"

She stood up: "I still need to ask."

Yun Jing hurriedly grabbed her and said, "Why are you still asking? You must have confidence in your son."

Ying Yueke shook off his hand and tapped Yun Jing's shoulder with her fingertips. "It's because I have confidence in my son that I know Feng Jingluo will never fall for him!"

"You're not Feng Jingluo!" Yun Jing retorted: "Maybe... she just likes it this way?" His voice became more guilty.

Yun Jing smiled awkwardly.

"Madam, the matter is settled. Why ruin your son's marriage?" Yun Jing lowered his head in disappointment, his eyes lonely. "This may be his only chance to turn things around in his life."

"Why not take a gamble? What if... Feng Jingluo really takes a fancy to Ruchen?"

Ying Yueke opened his mouth and sat back dejectedly: "Forget it, forget it. I hope it really is the smoke rising from the ancestral graves."
