Dabao visits relatives
There was extra heavy snow in December this year. The layer of icicles on the streets had not been cleared yet, and snow kept falling. Not to mention cars, even pedestrians had to support each other to walk.
Qin Wenli didn't dare let Yang Jian run alone in such a situation, so he accompanied those who were closer, and packed up those who were farther away and took them on the bus.
Qin Yu became addicted to setting up a stall during the summer vacation and even wanted to set up a stall during the Chinese New Year. Qin Wenli risked his life to go to Qingyuan again, wholesaled some peanuts, melon seeds, oranges and the like, and set up a small stall at the door to practice.
Business is good, and he has to come to help on market days.
It was the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month again. After letting go of two children who were eager to visit the market, Qin Wenli sat on a mat in his military coat, watching the people coming and going.
I accidentally saw the army green figure among the crowd who had just got off the bus.
Seeing the straight back and familiar profile, Qin Wenli's heartbeat suddenly accelerated. He stood up and waved his long sleeves.
"Dabao, Dabao!"
The man couldn't hear his voice clearly in the noisy street, but his behavior was eye-catching. The girl next to Dabao saw it and reached out to pull Dabao.
As soon as Dabao turned around, Qin Wenli swung faster.
Dabao showed joy on his face and pulled the girl through the crowded crowd. Qin Wenli also rushed over and the two hands were tightly clasped together.
"Dabao!"
"Brother Wenli!"
Just then, the two unlucky children came back. Qin Wenli pulled them aside, called them "uncle and aunt", and brought them into the house.
"Dabao, you and your wife should get on the kang and warm up."
Dabao had many questions, but none of them could overcome the numbness in the soles of his feet, so he pulled his wife to take off her shoes and get on the kang first.
"Did you just come back?" Qin Wenli asked.
"Yes, brother. The long-distance bus arrived in Qingyuan in the middle of the night. The bus to Sancha was full, so I took Shangguan's bus and prepared to transfer..."
"Oh..." I knew it, there is a direct bus, why does it only go to Shangguan?
"Brother, is this your house?" Dabao asked curiously.
Qin Wenli nodded, "My family bought it two years ago. We rely on nature for food here. Farming can't support the family, so I started a small business to supplement the income."
Dabao looked admiring: "Brother, you are always capable and can accomplish anything."
Although Wenli is his cousin, he is closer to him in his heart than his younger brother Erbao. He is happier than anyone else when his brother is doing well.
After talking for a while, Qin Wenli rolled up his sleeves, checked the time, and asked with concern: "You haven't eaten yet, right?"
Dabao shook his head: "We had breakfast."
"How can that be possible? You eat three meals a day in the army. I'll go get two meals for you."
Thinking of something, he asked again, "I'm afraid your sister-in-law is not used to eating noodles. How about giving her some rice?"
Dabao and his wife chatted for a few words, then smiled shyly and said, "Then I'll have to trouble you with the rice."
"Look at what you said. You guys sit down, I'll be back soon." Wen Li smiled and went out.
…
After dinner, Dabao's wife felt a little tired, so she asked her to rest in the house. Dabao enthusiastically followed his cousin out to look after the stall.
Qin Wenli just happened to ask about his recent situation.
"We got married in the army. My wife got pregnant that year and gave birth to a girl. The child was small in the first two years, but this year I can let go and asked her to come home to see him." Dabao sighed when he talked about the past few years. One thing led to another, so much so that his parents have not seen their daughter-in-law even after four years of marriage.
After asking a few more questions about his cousin's Yue family, Qin Wenli changed the topic and talked about Erbao.
As soon as he opened his mouth, Dabao frowned.
It was a little difficult to say: "He called me and said that he had a family outside..."
Speaking of this younger brother, the usually calm Dabao was so angry that he could die. Unfortunately, there were some things that he couldn't say to his wife, so he couldn't help but complain:
"I even doubt if there's shit in his head. He doesn't take good care of his two own sons at home, but instead helps a widow raise a child. The child is young, but he's already in his twenties. To put it bluntly, the widow can be his mother. I really don't know what he wants!"
"I told you that if you really want to live like this, you should just come back and get a divorce from Xizi. She's only 27 or 28 years old and can still go a step further. But this stubborn girl doesn't want to come back. It really makes me angry just thinking about it."
Qin Wenli listened silently and patted his back from time to time to help him calm down.
Dabao finished complaining and said helplessly, "After all, I am just the eldest brother and I can't do anything about it. But I have made up my mind. No matter whether my parents agree or not, I will tell Xizi the truth, so as not to drag him down because of this useless thing."
Dabao is a straightforward person who is most afraid of owing others, so he is not surprised at all by this decision.
As for Xizi, no matter how bad things get, he still has his own shop to provide for himself, so he will never starve to death.
Thinking this way, I feel there is nothing wrong in talking it out.
At the end of a busy day, Qin Wenli took his wife, children and Dabao home.
When Hu Yufeng got home and saw the two men, she was surprised again.
She held Dabao's wife tightly and kept praising her. Dabao's wife also expressed her gratitude. Although they couldn't speak the same language, they still used their hands to gesture, which did not hinder the communication between them.
Yang Xiu quickly prepared a table of delicious food and even steamed some rice to take care of Dabao's wife.
Dabao and his wife kept thanking him, and Yang Xiu smiled and pulled Dabao and his wife to sit down and eat.
After a relaxing meal, Dabao and his wife were in a good mood.
The stove in the main room was burning brightly. After eating, everyone took off their cotton-padded jackets and sat around talking and laughing.
Hu Yufeng inevitably asked about the disappointing Erbao, and Dabao gave the same answer.
Hu Yufeng sighed, "That's how it should be. Xizi works in our house, so he won't have to worry about going hungry. It's just that these two children will make your parents worry."
Only then did Dabao realize that Xizi had a real job. Hu Yufeng was also surprised when she saw his surprised expression.
It's been two years, haven't your parents mentioned it? ”
Well, you can tell from Dabao’s expression that he didn’t mention it.
"My mother thinks phone calls are too expensive, so she hangs up after just two sentences every time," Dabao said embarrassedly.
Well, this is something her sister can do!
On the second day, Hu Yufeng invited the two men to have dinner, and at Yang Xiu's reminder, she gave them another five kilograms of rice. Only then did she let Qin Wenli send the two men back.
Given her sister's personality, she thought it was good enough for her daughter-in-law to have enough to eat, so why was she picking on rice and millet?
Seeing this, Dabao felt a surge of gratitude in his heart.
…
The Chinese New Year was approaching, and Yang Xiu stayed at home to wash bedding with Hu Yufeng, while Qin Wenli took Qin Yu upstairs to look at the shop.
There are five kangs in the house, and the sheets, quilts and pillowcases on each kang were piled up into a mountain.
Hu Yufeng felt pain in her arm just looking at it.
"How about we clean up the other things first and ask Wenli to come back and wash the clothes in the washing machine?"
She really couldn't bear it any longer and had to buy it!
Yang Xiu smiled and said, "Mom, this isn't much, just let me wash it slowly..."
She grew up with her grandmother and was taught from a young age to be thrifty and not to spend money if possible. It's just washing clothes, a laborious task, and everyone does it the same way, so why spend money on it?
Hu Yufeng knew what she was thinking just by looking at her expression. Saving money is a good thing, but isn’t the purpose of making money to make yourself live comfortably? We don't buy anything here and we don't spend anything there, so what's the point of working so hard for it? If you don't spend it while you are alive, you can't take it with you when you die, so why keep it for fun?
She didn't even need to ask, Yang Xiu would definitely say, of course it was to save up a family fortune for the children and grandchildren!
Hu Yufeng often wondered who was the younger one between the two of them?
In the end, the washing machine was not purchased. Perhaps because Yang Xiu was afraid of spending money, he washed the clothes very quickly. Hu Yufeng watched the big mountain turn into a small hill, and then the small hill disappeared, leaving behind two clotheslines full of clothes.
As soon as the sheets and quilt covers came out of the water, they froze hard. Qin Shu and Li Xiang ran around underneath, breaking off the icicles.
After doing the laundry, I have to clean the house.
Lao Qin’s family has only lived in their new house for a year and a half. The ceiling is still snow-white. A spider web and dust are particularly conspicuous, but it is easy to clean.
The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law cleaned every corner of the house, and left the yard to Qin Shengtian to clean.
At the old house, Lao Zheng was also standing on a bench sweeping the room he lived in, while Qin Shengtian was holding the bench on the ground.
Yang Xiu was startled when he entered the room: "Uncle Zheng, come down quickly. If you fall, it will be no joke."
Hu Yufeng also pointed at Qin Shengtian and cursed: "How dare you! You are so old, and you still dare to ask me to sit on the stool? Why don't you go to heaven?"
Qin Shengtian felt wronged, he was just holding the stool, why were you scolding him!
Old Zheng came down embarrassedly. Hu Yufeng drove the two old men out, and she and Yang Xiu started sweeping the house.
"Okay, next time you sweep the dust, ask us to do it. Just clean the table and the floor."
Old Zheng nodded repeatedly.
…
"Oh God... why don't you take me in, Dad... you keep me here to suffer this..."
Waves of rhythmic crying came from outside the yard, but Hu Yufeng could not hear it clearly. She turned to look at Yang Xiu, who tilted his ear and said uncertainly:
"It seems to be my uncle?"
Qin Shengtian ran away upon hearing this. Hu Yufeng cursed him and followed him out with Yang Xiu.
Lao Zheng hesitated for a while whether to watch it or not, but finally decided to watch it.
As soon as I went out, I could hear the voice clearly. It was indeed Uncle Qin.
Hu Yufeng cursed inwardly, this grown man always cries and makes a fuss at the slightest provocation, could he have learned this from Wenli’s grandmother?
As they thought this, they didn't slow down their pace. When they arrived, there was already a circle of people surrounding them.
Li Lanhua and her three children stood by at a loss as to what to do.
Uncle Qin's daughter Qin Xiaoxue and her husband each pulled one side of Uncle Qin who was sitting on the ground. Uncle Qin was like a naughty dog, with his butt very heavy.
Seeing them coming, Xiaoxue called out "Second Aunt" and tears started coming down.
Chen Xiulian stood behind Uncle Qin with an angry look on her face.
Half of Qin Ling's face was red and swollen, and her tears were almost drowning her.
Qin Shengtian was like a civet who was in a melon field but couldn't get a bite of the melon. He was so anxious that he ran back and forth and almost hugged his elder brother and shook him.
Hu Yufeng simply couldn't bear to watch it.
Yang Xiu pulled Li Lanhua and asked in a low voice: "What's wrong?"
Li Lanhua pointed in the direction of Qin Wenqing's house, then pointed at Xiaoxue, and said, "He and Wenqing's wife were arguing. I heard them and hurried out, and saw my father sitting on the ground crying."
