Find a cook
After the summer harvest, Qin Shengtian had only one thought: How great it is to have a diligent employee!
I won’t talk about it on weekdays. The wheat has been harvested and needs to be dried. My goodness, Lao Zheng is in the threshing floor all the time except adding grass to the cattle and sheep. I don’t know how he controls the time, but the timing for turning over and drying the wheat is just right. At the end of the day, the wheat in the floor is crispy.
The same goes for Yang Maizi. Wow, he works even faster than him. He can hardly keep up with the pace.
The same goes for pulling wheat straw. The straw threshed by the harvester has to be piled together first. The old man works hard with his arms raised in a straw hat under the scorching sun, making the time he takes to drink water seem like it was stolen.
And Lao Zheng also helped make tofu. Wenli is very busy now. Small tasks like grinding tofu were all done by Qin Shengtian, but now, Lao Zheng has taken over.
Qin Shengtian crossed his legs and regretted again: Why didn’t I find him earlier?
He had only crossed his legs for a few days before he was given Hu Yufeng's death stare.
Qin Shengtian understood, and after that he didn't dare to give up anymore, because his economic lifeline was controlled by this old woman.
Here, Hu Yufeng was taking care of two dark and thin old men, and was thinking about when to cook a pork leg for them to nourish.
When it comes to making up for Hu Yufeng, the first thing that comes to mind is cooking. Yes, we need to find someone to cook at home.
It’s not that she is inefficient. She brought up this matter after the New Year, but the old lady intervened and refused to agree no matter what she said.
Her daughter-in-law goes out every day, so there are only three people at home to eat, and she has to find someone to cook for them. She is afraid that she can't handle such a great blessing.
And so it has been dragged on until now. Hu Yufeng decided not to talk to the old lady and to find someone to do it directly.
Who are you looking for? Many young people in the village have left in the past two years, and most of those left are old women of her age. These people have to take care of their grandchildren while cooking and serving the family, and almost none of them can go out to earn money.
After dinner in the evening, she chatted with Qin Shengtian.
Wenli has been staying in town these days as he has been handling food business license matters. The old lady at home is like a mouse seeing a cat, and she won’t tell you unless you ask her. Mr. Zheng is a man of propriety and doesn't say anything unnecessary.
After counting, only Qin Shengtian was left.
"I want to find a cook for my family."
Qin Shengtian was surprised: "Doesn't this have a mother?"
Hu Yufeng glared at him and said, "If she's not my biological mother, you don't know how to feel pain, right? She's already 77 years old and still hanging around the stove."
Qin Shengtian smiled awkwardly: He is used to it.
Besides, he’s already 77?
Hu Yufeng was angry when she saw his unreliable look: "Anyway, we have to find someone. Do you think there is anyone suitable?"
Qin Shengtian’s first reaction was the Wang family. His sister has openly scolded him countless times, so much so that now even herders don't dare to pass by her house. When cooking at home, you shouldn’t be afraid of leaking any secrets.
But if I say it out loud, I'm afraid Hu Yufeng will get angry, so I'm so conflicted.
Hu Yufeng frowned: "If you have an idea, just say it. What's the point of dithering?"
Qin Shengtian summoned up his courage and asked, "How is Mancang's wife?"
After saying this, he looked like he was waiting to be scolded.
The old woman didn't say anything for a long time. Qin Shengtian carefully raised his eyes and saw that she had a thoughtful expression.
Qin Shengtian was inexplicably no longer nervous.
That’s interesting, why didn’t she think of Mancang’s wife?
Didn't the Wang family say everywhere that she was heartless? She asked Mancang's wife to come to work, not only to shut that old lady up, but she also got nothing good out of it. It was Mancang who separated from her!
It was like killing two birds with one stone. The more Hu Yufeng thought about this idea, the better it seemed.
but
"Ahem." Hu Yufeng cleared her throat and said with a straight face, "Okay, this is for your sake, let her try. Tell your sister that I've had enough of her. If she keeps talking nonsense outside, I won't want any of her family members."
Qin Shengtian was stunned: Not only did he not scold him, he even agreed to it. How come I didn't know that he had such a great reputation?
"You proposed it. Just tell them tomorrow and report in the day after tomorrow," Hu Yufeng added.
"Okay." Qin Shengtian agreed loudly.
After saying this, Hu Yufeng became impatient to stay with him any longer, and so did Qin Shengtian, so they both went back to their rooms.
Before dawn the next day, Qin Shengtian got up and ran to his sister's house. This is a good thing. Let's see if my sister will scold him for being incompetent and unable to control his wife.
…
Just after eight o'clock in the morning, Mancang's wife knocked on the door of Lao Qin's house.
The old lady trembled as she opened the door. The person called her "Grandma". The old lady was startled for a moment, then smiled and said, "It's Xiaoning."
This child doesn't come home often.
Liang Xiaoning smiled: "It's me, grandma." Then he naturally helped the old lady walk into the yard.
Hu Yufeng was cleaning up when she heard the noise and came out of the main room. She wiped the water off her hands and greeted with a smile, "Xiaoning is here. Why are you here so early?"
Liang Xiaoning smiled awkwardly and said, "There's nothing going on at home, so I just wanted to come here early."
Actually, there are a lot of things to do at home, but this is my first day at work and I am not familiar with anything. What if my aunt is waiting... I dare not think about it, it is better to come early.
"Okay, then come with me..." Hu Yufeng saw that she was a little nervous and knew that she was afraid of her. He didn't talk any more and just took her to assign work.
"Usually there are only five of us eating at home, and when the two kids come back on weekends, there are seven of us."
"Aunt, forget it. It's the same if I make it and go home to eat it!" Liang Xiaoning waved her hand quickly.
Her sister-in-law from her mother's side worked as a handyman in a county restaurant last year, earning 400 yuan a month, but she worked all day long. My aunt's family only has two meals a day, morning and night, which takes less than three hours in total. She can get 130 yuan a month, which makes her very content and she doesn't have to worry about meals.
Hu Yufeng didn't argue with her and made the final decision: "Don't be stubborn, just eat at home."
Without giving her a chance to argue, he continued, "The housework is heavy, so make sure you have at least one meat dish every day. If the meat is almost finished, let me know in advance. If it's a vegetarian dish, you can make it as you see fit."
After introducing the kitchen, he took her to see the vegetable garden and then left the kitchen to her.
As soon as she went out, she saw the old lady staring at her.
Hu Yufeng stopped and asked, "What's wrong?"
"You ask Xiaoning to cook, what should I do?" the old lady said aggrievedly.
There is no work for her to do in this house. Does that mean she is useless? The old lady had really thought about what the consequences of being useless would be a few years ago. Her daughter-in-law said that the family would not keep idle people.
If our family doesn't raise the child, doesn't that mean someone else will? She has no family, and Huizi has a child to take care of. Where can she go?
Thinking of this, he became visibly panicked.
Hu Yufeng knew her train of thought without even thinking and was speechless. This old lady would scare herself to death sooner or later.
"If you have nothing to do, go and cook for Xiao Ning."
As soon as these words were spoken, the old lady immediately held back the tears that were about to fall, and she agreed with an "ah ah" and moved towards the kitchen.
At 9:30 in the morning, Liang Xiaoning called for dinner.
Hu Yufeng yelled towards the old courtyard, and soon two old men came over one after another.
Liang Xiaoning brought the rice soup and stood aside nervously.
"Sit down, sit down and eat together." Hu Yufeng frowned.
Liang Xiaoning then sat down on the bench hesitantly. As soon as she sat down, the old lady handed her a pair of chopsticks, and Hu Yufeng also handed her a steamed bun.
"At home, you should eat what you are supposed to eat. Don't act like a bullied little wife. I'm not like your mother, who uses the family rules against her... Come on, eat the food!"
While Hu Yufeng was trying to persuade others, she never forgot to criticize her archenemy.
It's a new era now, but the girl from the Wang family still follows the hierarchy at home. Really, this ignorant and stupid woman can only exercise authority at home. If she really has the ability, she should be as generous as her!
Upon hearing this, Liang Xiaoning smiled at Hu Yufeng and lowered his head to eat his steamed bun. The others didn't dare to respond and just kept eating.
Hu Yufeng tasted several dishes and nodded with satisfaction, "Your cooking is better than mine."
It's really hard for her to have such good cooking skills under such difficult conditions.
Liang Xiaoning breathed a sigh of relief and picked up a piece of food with chopsticks.
Hu Yufeng was in a good mood after the delicious meal and was particularly satisfied with her wise decision.
This should be the case in the future, professional matters should be left to professionals.
…
Liang Xiaoning, who had just returned home, was being questioned by her mother-in-law.
Although the two brothers Mancang and Mantun separated their property, they still lived in the same yard, which meant that her mother-in-law could hear any noise she made.
I just got home and was stopped.
From what she saw and heard, to her salary, to the dishes she had eaten in the morning, the old woman didn't miss a thing. If you didn't know, you would think she was investigating a spy.
Liang Xiaoning was not stupid, he just said what he could to get away with it.
This alone made the old woman jealous:
"More than 100 a month. She has hired 7 or 8 people, so she has to pay 700 or 800 a month in salary."
What about that year?
My goodness, how could Hu Yufeng be so lucky to earn so much money.
The old lady was not convinced and cursed:
"It's all earned by my nephew and brother. How heartless! He doesn't feel bad about spending money that isn't his own, and he eats meat even when it's not a festival. Aren't you afraid she'll get sick of it?"
Liang Xiaoning muttered to himself: Fortunately I didn't tell them that they eat meat every meal, otherwise my mother-in-law would have jumped up from the kang.
I thought about it in my mind, but didn't say anything.
"Did your aunt say anything?"
"No."
"Didn't you scold your uncle and grandmother?"
"No."
"If I ask you, there is nothing. What can you do?"
She just didn't believe it. How could Hu Yufeng not curse if she didn't curse people every day?
"Okay, now that you're there, be smart. Don't be afraid of your aunt scolding you. Your uncle is rich, so just eat what he tells you to eat. Eat until you're full." It would be even better if you could bring Mancang along to eat as well.
Liang Xiaoning looked obedient no matter what she said, and the old lady was not very happy about this.
The second daughter-in-law should be let to go. She looks so honest and you can't rely on her to do anything.
When she thought about Hu Yufeng spending the money earned by her brother and nephew, she felt upset and said angrily:
"You can go to work, but it's all thanks to your uncle. You must remember how good he is to you. Your aunt is a shrew. If she beats or scolds your uncle, you can stop her. If you can't stop her, come back and tell me. I will support him."
No one could help but sigh at the deep love between brother and sister when seeing this tone and expression, Liang Xiaoning was almost ruined. If the scene of her scolding her uncle had not been still vivid in her mind, she would have believed it.
No wonder her uncle refused her request to go to work several times before the family split up. Come to think of it, it’s really difficult for my uncle. With my mother-in-law’s temper, who can afford to get involved with her?
Thinking of this, I made up my mind that in the future I would not talk about matters concerning my aunt's family if possible, and completely eliminate the chances of the old woman causing trouble.
Mancang came back in the evening and was speechless after listening to his wife's story.
"What she says is fine, but you have to know what to do. We are here to work, so we can't gossip."
Liang Xiaoning chuckled: "I still have some brains."
"My aunt told me to come after 8:30 tomorrow. I will cook the meal and leave it in the pot for you then."
"OK."
