Late night attack
After a short break, Hu Yufeng took out new clothes and asked the two children to try them on. Qin Yu's eyes widened when she saw the red dress. She took it carefully and stared at Hu Yufeng eagerly, "Did you buy it for me?"
Hu Yufeng's eyes were gentle: "Yes, go and try it out for grandma to see if you are pretty."
Qin Yu touched the skirt with care, put it on carefully, and ran to stand in front of Hu Yufeng: "Grandma, does it look good?"
"It looks good. Our skirt is beautiful, and our Yu Yu is even more beautiful." Hu Yufeng said with a smile.
Qin Yu's cheeks flushed with excitement, and she carefully turned around in the yard to show her mother.
With the help of Hu Yufeng, Qin Shu put on his overalls and looked very energetic. The child gave his grandmother a kiss and jumped around on the kang.
After a while, Yang Xiu pulled Qin Yu over and said disapprovingly, "Mom, why are you buying clothes for them again? We still have some, and you're wasting money again."
"I'm your grandmother and I'm happy to do it. Are you dissatisfied that I didn't buy it for you?" Hu Yufeng said deliberately.
Yang Xiu was indeed anxious: "Look at what you are saying, Mom. You finally saved some money but you don't spend it on yourself, but buy it for the children. They grow up fast, old clothes are enough for them, why do you always buy new ones?"
"The children have grown up in just a few years. Will it be okay to think that they were wearing tattered clothes when they were little? That's enough. I just like to dress up my two children. Don't worry about it!" Hu Yufeng interrupted Yang Xiu.
Yang Xiu looked helpless. I looked down and saw the two children looking at me with confused eyes. Then I thought about how these two children had been wearing clothes made from old adults' clothes since they were born. It was only last year when the family had some spare money that we bought two sets of clothes for the children, and they were both autumn and winter clothes.
Thinking of this, Yang Xiu softened her expression and said to the two children, "Wear these for a while since grandma bought them for you. Don't get them dirty. Save them for the banquets in the next few days."
The two children happily agreed.
Speaking of the feast, Yang Xiu hurriedly asked her mother-in-law, "Mom, when Linzi gets married in a few days, what will you wear? Or you can find it tonight and I will wash it tomorrow?"
Lin Zi is Yang Xiu's younger brother from her mother's side. He is 21 years old this year. Before the New Year, he married a girl who is two years younger than him. The two families decided on July 13th as the wedding date.
Hu Yufeng thought for a moment and said, "I'll look through it tonight. I remember I haven't worn the new clothes I made before the New Year yet."
Yang Xiu went out to work.
After dinner in the evening, the family sat in the yard to enjoy the cool air.
Hu Yufeng asked Qin Wenli to take out the bananas he bought and distribute them.
Qin Wenli gave it to the old lady first. As expected, the old lady waved her hand, but Qin Wenli forced it into her hands. After everyone, adults and children, had a banana in their hands, Hu Yufeng said, "These are bananas, fruits grown in the south. Wenli bought them for you. Have a taste."
Qin Shengtian picked it up and tried to bite it, but Qin Wenli tried to stop him:
"Dad, this is not how you eat it. You have to peel the skin off..."
Qin Shengtian bit his banana in confusion. The two children looked at their grandfather and laughed. Even Yang Xiu couldn't help laughing. Hu Yufeng snorted coldly: "What a waste!!!"
Qin Wenli took his own fruit and demonstrated to everyone: "First tear it open from the opening on the top of the head, then pull it down, and then pull this half outwards..." and half of the fruit flesh appeared.
The others followed his example, tearing and pulling, peeling it out, and then carefully putting it into their mouths.
Qin Shengtian ate with gusto. Hu Yufeng also found the food sweet after taking a bite. The food was soft even for the old lady as she had no teeth.
It was Yang Xiu: "yue..." She almost vomited after taking a bite. What is the taste? It's rare, but it's really unpalatable.
Everyone looked at her, and she couldn't help blushing and said, "I can't get used to the taste. Give it to Yuyu and Shushu!"
Unexpectedly, Qin Shu didn't like it either, and even took two bites of his own and then stopped eating.
Seeing Qin Shengtian staring at her with a burning gaze, Yang Xiu took it in and cut it into several pieces. Smiling, he gave each of the elderly a piece: "Mom, you guys enjoy yourselves. This is for you. Shushu and I don't have a good appetite and we're not used to this..."
"Everyone has their own taste..." Hu Yufeng was not surprised at all and took a piece and ate it too.
The old lady saw that Qin Wenli and Qin Yu were eating happily and refused to take it, so Yang Xiu had to follow her. This old lady has devoted her entire life to this, and it won't be cured in a day or two.
Qin Shengtian, on the other hand, was very tactful. After finishing his snack, he put his hands behind his back and went to smoke.
Yang Xiu asked softly, "Mom, are we going to set up a stall tomorrow?"
"Go, we're just harvesting sesame these days. Let your father harvest it first, and we'll harvest it together when he comes back from setting up the stall."
"Okay, Mom. I'll go make the dough first." Yang Xiu said as he stood up.
Qin Wenli also went to soak soybeans. It would be too late to set up a stall tomorrow, but he couldn’t miss the market in Sancha the day after tomorrow.
The couple went about their own business.
Hu Yufeng looked up at the starry sky. The night is quiet and the breeze is cool. A tabby cat was jumping around on the branches, and Qin Yu and Qin Shu were standing under the tree teasing it.
Hu Yufeng closed her eyes, feeling the breeze brushing across her cheeks, and felt a rare sense of peace in her heart.
This peace did not last long, as it was broken by a woman's shrill cry.
Hu Yufeng opened her eyes. The two children were frightened by her crying and hurriedly ran behind her.
Qin Shengtian, who was smoking in the room, came out and kept asking, "What's wrong? What happened?"
Hu Yufeng settled the two children with the old lady, and then went out with Qin Wenli and his son.
When he went out of the yard, he saw Li Lanhua also standing outside his house.
Hu Yufeng asked, "I heard the sound like Xueqin, are Wenqing and Xueqin fighting?" She was confused. The couple quarreled every other day, but this was the first time they had heard someone scream so miserably.
Li Lanhua looked around furtively and lowered her voice and said, "Second Aunt, it's not a quarrel. It's Xueqin's brother who is fighting with Wenqing."
Hearing this, the three of them were even more confused, "What's so good about Wen Qing fighting with his brother-in-law?" These two people are like-minded. Wen Qing treats Wang Hong better than his own brother. They are just wearing the same pants, but they can still fight.
Before Li Lanhua could explain more, a burst of rapid calls and cries for help came from the darkness, and several people's faces changed.
After a while, Qin Wenzheng hurried over and saw Qin Wenli was there too. He pushed him and said, "Wenqing cut Wang Hong's arm. Go up and take care of him. I'll drive him to the hospital."
Qin Wenli ran away without asking any more questions.
Qin Shengtian also went to watch the fun.
When Hu Yufeng heard about the slashing, she was worried that she might be sent to labor camp.
Wang Xueqin's cries were particularly clear in the dark night. Hu Yufeng asked Yang Xiu, who had heard the noise, to look after the child and rushed over.
As soon as I entered the door, I saw Wang Hong lying in the yard, groaning, with a fruit knife stuck in his arm and blood still flowing out.
Wang Xueqin was howling with disheveled hair beside her as if her brother had died. Chen Xiulian and Uncle Qin were holding her on both sides, and the two children were crying loudly with fear.
Hu Yufeng turned around and finally found Qin Wenqing squatting and shivering in the corner.
