Chapter 100 The Marks Hurt
The word "bed" alone can easily lead to all sorts of suggestive thoughts.
In particular, Sang Li and Lu Jin had just experienced a thrilling and passionate encounter.
Lu Jin felt that even if Sang Li didn't speak, her mere breathing was enough to make him swoon.
Unable to control oneself.
This feeling of being unable to control my emotions is so unbearable.
Lu Jin closed the door, glanced back at her with an ambiguous look in his eyes.
Sang Li: "What's wrong, brother?"
"..."
That call was undeniably a little too sweet.
He was simply teasing Lu Jin.
Sang Li was actually far less daring than she appeared. When she was being tormented, she would always be silent with red eyes. Once she got out of bed, she would start thrusting, trying to make up for the cowardice she had shown earlier.
"Why are you calling me 'brother' now?" Lu Jin teased her intentionally. "Or are you saying my service was quite pleasant?"
He slowly took off his coat, tossed it onto the back of the chair, and said in a low, husky voice, "Sang Li, you're becoming more and more unrefined in your speech these days."
Sang Li leaned against the wall, wrapped in a coat, only her eyes showing, and smiled casually. Although her face was red, her gaze was not timid: "Isn't it because you're quite worthy of praise?"
She deliberately sighed, "If it weren't so cold now, I would have liked to give you another chance, wouldn't you say?"
Lu Jin felt a surge of heat throughout his body.
Do serious business.
Don't let her bewitch you and make you lose your bearings.
“You look like you’re here on vacation.” Lu Jin walked over, casually tapped a few times on the control panel, and started the internal power. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll misunderstand and think you have ulterior motives?”
Sang Li tilted her head and pointed to her chest: "Then, would you like to see my heart?"
"..."
"Stop fooling around."
Sang Li regained her composure: "Alright, of course I have my reasons. I also want to know what's inside my body. The Bureau has been treating me like a guinea pig, using my data to make a fuss every day. I can't keep pretending to be stupid. So, I need to give Bai Heng a copy of my data too. As for you, you've got a problem too? Your blood? You didn't take any drugs to boost your virility, did you? So you're rushing to test your body now? No way, Lu Jin, if you tell me, I won't look down on you."
Lu Jin: ?
His lips twitched twice: "Am I that kind of person?"
Sang Li answered seriously, "Yes, it's better to suffer than to be too proud."
"..."
Sang Li said seriously, "I need to undergo a full set of tests, including all items. I'll extract whatever is needed for human experiments. With my data, we might be able to compare it with other data in the database."
She didn't care.
"Are you sure?" Lu Jin raised an eyebrow, but his tone didn't sound like he was joking. "The whole set? Blood, spinal fluid, forget it."
Sang Li nodded lazily, but her expression was unusually serious: "Of course. Isn't this BEAM's favorite testing process? The more data, the more comprehensive."
She paused, glancing around the cramped space. "But why isn't there a bed here?"
“This is a temporary shelter, not a hospital.” Lu Jin unbuttoned his cuffs and opened the instrument cabinet next to him. The densely packed needles and collection devices inside looked like some kind of cold, metallic teeth. “Besides, I don’t know how to use these.”
"So you want me to do it myself?" Sang Li walked over. "Isn't it enough to just insert it?"
"..."
Lu Jin: "It's not that simple."
Lu Jin frowned, remained silent for a moment, and finally took out his communicator to make a video call to Bai Heng.
The screen lights up the moment the signal is connected.
Bai Heng's ever-smiling eyes immediately fell on Sang Li on the screen.
He saw her beautiful, smiling face, and he also saw the light pink mark on her neck.
That was clearly not left by friction between the collar and the fabric.
It's too conspicuous.
It was as if someone... no, not "as if," it was definitely the marks left by someone repeatedly rubbing that skin. He knew how soft it was there; he had held her and slept there, and he knew the temperature and scent of every inch of her skin.
His expression paused, his smile faded, and his gaze became deep and unfathomable.
Do you feel betrayed?
No, he was actually regretting that it wasn't him standing next to Sang Li.
Lu Jin said in a low voice, without moving the camera away, he didn't care whether Bai Heng saw it or not.
However, they must have seen it.
Bai Heng's face looked very bad.
Who gave him the right to covet what didn't belong to him?
Sang Li can only do what is right in front of him.
Lu Jin didn't know when he became so infatuated with Sang Li, as if it had been engraved in his bones and blood, taking root and sprouting.
Lu Jin coughed twice and said, "She needs to undergo a full set of tests, so I'd appreciate it if you could provide remote guidance."
Bai Heng's gaze swept between the two of them, as if he were judging something. In the end, he didn't ask the irrelevant question, "What did you two do last night?" and nodded, saying, "I'll take over the peripherals. Lu Jin, go open the energy storage box and take out the fourth puncture module."
Lu Jin went to handle it.
Bai Heng looked at Sang Li, paused for a moment, and said ambiguously, "Also, Sang Li, wipe the marks on your neck clean before you appear on camera next time."
Sang Li, who was called by her full name: "..."
I felt inexplicably scared.
Like a younger sister caught red-handed by her older brother, already dressed.
To be honest, I'm a little embarrassed.
Lu Jin coughed lightly.
All ready.
Sang Li stood in front of the instrument, examining the neatly arranged sampling needles, and tilted her head to ask, "So what do I do next? I can't exactly stand there and have my spinal fluid drawn, can I?"
Bai Heng said calmly, "Are you sure you want to do this? Taking spinal fluid is no joke."
“Of course I’m sure,” Sang Li answered quickly, then muttered, “But why aren’t there any beds here? With all this equipment, can’t you management bureau leave some humane space for people?”
She thought that this place was very fond of conducting human experiments.
Bai Heng chuckled lightly: "The bed takes up space. You haven't seen what other abnormal physical examinations look like, have you?"
“Okay.” Sang Li raised her hands in surrender.
Bai Heng added, "Behind you, there's an experimental chamber over there, used for taking samples from living abnormal subjects."
The thing looked like a transparent, semi-circular metal chamber, with cold white lights shining inside. Several mechanical arms hung from the top of the chamber, and a ring of piercing instruments with a cold glint was mounted on the base.
“Are you sure this isn’t a medieval torture device?” she frowned.
It looks a lot like the Iron Maiden, with a humanoid metal shell on the outside and spikes all over the inside, and blood flowing out from the hollows at the bottom.
“Similar,” Bai Heng said. “So I don’t recommend you try it. Come back.”
"..."
She knew it.
but.
She really wanted a complete file: Was the Day Witch really inside her body? To what extent had her body been developed?
Sang Li: "Hmm? Why? Isn't now the perfect time? I know it will hurt, but I can bear it."
“It will automatically puncture and compress the nerves without providing any anesthetic.” Bai Heng paused, as if extremely reluctant to continue, “And you… might go into shock from the pain.”
He spoke with a serious expression, but Sang Li could still detect a great deal of reluctance in his tone.
Just then, Lu Jin retrieved the module. Upon hearing this, he abruptly stopped, turned to look at Sang Li, and frowned.
"Want to try something else?" Lu Jin asked in a low voice.
Although there are no other options to choose from here.
“No change,” Sang Li answered decisively.
She didn't have much time; it was too late.
She walked to the front of the experimental chamber, looked at the transparent metal chamber, and reached out to run her hand along its cold, hard edges.
“A little pain is okay,” she said. “Rather than being treated as an experimental subject and passively subjected to various monitoring over the years, I would rather actively know what I am.”
Bai Heng remained silent for a few seconds on the other end.
“Sang Li…”
“I am aware of this,” Sang Li said calmly.
Bai Heng looked at Lu Jin.
Lu Jin wasn't sure whether he should try to dissuade him, but in the end he left with the words, "There's no time."
Bai Heng let out a breath. He had always respected Sang Li's choices and there was no need to interfere like a feudal patriarch: "You go in first, and I'll remotely control the location."
Sang Li tossed her coat aside; in the cold white light, her slender figure stood out with unwavering resolve.
“Lu Jin,” she said with a cold expression, “don’t laugh at me later.”
Lu Jin said softly, "You're really crazy. You can't stop when it hurts."
"I know."
Sang Li took off her coat, leaving her only in her underwear.
The hatch slowly closed, and a metal robotic arm drooped down from the top, illuminating a red scanning light.
Bai Heng, on the other end of the video, kept his lips tightly pressed together and didn't say a word, but his back was constantly sweating.
He knew the whole process.
Know the angle, depth, and speed at which the needle is inserted into the spine.
I also know that Sang Li will be in pain.
It hurts a lot.
It's like the cruel punishment of slow slicing.
But she insisted on doing it.
So he couldn't say anything.
"Are you ready?" he finally asked.
"Come on." Sang Li closed her eyes.
The robotic arm slowly lowered, and the red light scanned Sang Li's bare neck and back.
Sang Li's muscles suddenly tensed, and her heart raced.
The light inside the operating room was cold; she felt like a prisoner awaiting her fate on the operating table.
"It's starting." Bai Heng's voice came through the communicator.
Before he could finish speaking...
The moment the first needle pierced her skin, Sang Li's fingertips tightened sharply, her knuckles turned white, and for a moment she seemed unable to breathe.
It's a pain of being torn apart.
It was overwhelming, tearing my soul apart.
Damn it, there's no anesthesia!
This is utterly devoid of human rights!
Cold sweat poured down his forehead, and he bit his lower lip hard, but he couldn't help screaming.
No, and nobody told her it hurt this much!
inhuman!
Absolutely horrific!
Lu Jin stood in front of the control panel, his eyes reddening.
He couldn't even bear to look at it.
The metal pipes extended and disappeared one by one, like a slow, agonizing torture.
These BEAM devices should have been phased out long ago!
What kind of medical testing lab is this?!
"Enough." His voice suddenly deepened, filled with rage. "Bai Heng, stop."
“We can’t stop.” Bai Heng looked up, his expression calmer than ever before. “She has already entered the sampling phase. Forcibly stopping it could lead to loss of nerve control or more serious consequences. We have no choice but to continue.”
Lu Jin clenched his fists, his Adam's apple bobbing, as he looked at the figure in the cabin who was bound to the metal frame.
“I can…” Sang Li’s voice was hoarse, but she was still fully conscious.
She opened her eyes, her pupils red: "Continue."
The pain was tearing at her nerves, but she seemed to be holding onto a kind of obsession.
The management bureau has always been aware of its various data.
She must know that too.
Lu Jin and Bai Heng could also find out.
Purpose.
The purpose of the management bureau can be analyzed.
And the genetic information hidden within the body that one is unaware of.
A complex emotion flashed in Bai Heng's eyes.
The data began to flow.
On the screen, complex sequences kept emerging, as if opening a Pandora's box.
Bai Heng said in a low voice, "Data collection in progress, begin analysis."
Inside the experimental chamber, the syringe ignited the wires of all the nerves in her body, and an electric-like pain spread out, reaching deep into her brain.
Sang Li's consciousness began to fade.
She couldn't hear Bai Heng's instructions, nor could she sense Lu Jin's anxiety.
All sounds seemed to be drawn away, and the world seemed to sink into a slowly flowing liquid.
She fell.
I fell into a deep blue sea.
The sea was calm and still, without wind or sound, only a cold silence enveloping everything.
Until a familiar face appeared.
It's Amber.
She remained as serene as ever, her silver hair floating gently in the steam, her eyes so deep they seemed to see through all the secrets within her.
He approached, holding a string of smooth, warm pearls in his hands.
“This isn’t for anyone else,” Amber said, “it’s for you.”
Sang Li stood there, as if frozen in a dream, unable to move, only able to watch as He gently placed the string of pearls on her head.
The pearls pressed against her skin, slightly cool, yet felt as if they could envelop her heartbeat.
It contains a pearl.
“Of course I’m willing to give everything for you.” Amber’s voice was soft and gentle, like a tide washing over her eardrums, a tone that Sang Li had never heard before. “But I’m afraid that one day… I will forget you.”
She knelt in the middle of the tide, with a silvery white fish tail beneath her feet.
Amber's lips were icy cold. She first held the cool pearl in her mouth, then gently kissed her neck, her fingertips softly running through her hair.
In her dream, Sang Li involuntarily straddled His fish tail, her hand sliding down the tail, her fingertips touching the shimmering, cold, hard curves.
Suddenly, she bit Amber's wrist as she stroked her cheek, her teeth cutting into her delicate skin, and blood slowly seeped out.
A hint of surprise flashed in Amber's eyes, but she quickly seemed to relax and smiled.
Sang Li licked away the blood gushing from His wound, his warm tongue enveloping Him as if etching a part of Him into his own body.
Her hand continued to slide along the fish's tail, manipulating the scales inch by inch.
"Afraid of forgetting me?" Sang Li's voice was low and teasing. "But I will make you remember me, more deeply than anyone else."
Amber seemed unable to withstand it, and suddenly swept up Sangli and disappeared into the sea.
The seawater is bubbling.
kiss.
Is this the past?
Or the future.
It's the past.
Yes, it must be.
