Chapter 47 Breathing Stop He looked down the instant she looked up.

"shadow?"

Bai Heng had never heard that Sang Li had a habit of dreaming.

At least, she had never said that before.

“Yes, it’s very blurry. I can’t see him clearly, and I can’t hear his voice, but he’s always there.” Sang Li frowned. “It’s like, like standing outside a window, but not in reality. I know I’m dreaming, but he doesn’t seem to be part of the dream. Can you probably understand that feeling? I searched online, and they said I have somatization, that I have severe depression.”

Bai Heng chuckled and said, "How could that be? You can."

Sang Li: "I know it's impossible, but it's impossible for a person to have the same dream so many times, right? I don't dare tell Lu Jin, I'm afraid he'll think I'm crazy. Do you know why?"

Bai Heng didn't speak immediately, but stared at her face for two seconds before looking down and flipping the baking tray, placing a piece of cooked pork belly into her bowl.

"Does that shadow frighten you?" he asked softly.

Sang Li was silent for a few seconds, then slowly shook her head: "I'm not afraid. But I know he's staring at me, and there's a strange sense of familiarity about him. Do you think he might be an anomaly?"

Bai Heng: "There are also anomalous entities that invade dreams, but not like yours, and they've all been contained. It's probably because you've been under a lot of stress lately, and this happens frequently. How about having a glass of milk before bed tonight? I can buy you a case of 'Goodnight Milk,' it's sweet, you'll like it. I'll have it delivered directly to Lu Jin's house."

"Okay, let's try it tonight."

As I was speaking, my phone suddenly vibrated.

She looked down and saw it was a call from Lu Jin.

"……Hello?"

Where?

Luckily, I didn't ask who it was with.

However, I guess they already guessed it.

Sang Li involuntarily sat up a little straighter: "Let's eat at a barbecue restaurant."

“I’ll come pick you up once everything’s done.” He paused, then added, “Send me your address.”

"……good."

After hanging up the phone, Bai Heng picked up a piece of beef tongue and put it in her bowl: "Eat some more. When he comes later, you probably won't be able to eat anymore."

How did you know?

"They'll definitely kidnap you and take you home."

Fifteen minutes later.

Lu Jin appeared at the store entrance.

He walked towards Sang Li, not even glancing at the other guests, and skillfully sat down next to her: "Long time no see, you've managed to steal my man away so quickly."

“Hey, I’m not one of yours,” Sang Li retorted. “I’m an independent person…”

"Hmm?" Lu Jin raised an eyebrow.

Sang Li: "..."

Calling her an independent anomaly isn't quite right, but she's not an independent human being either.

Lu Jin smiled and said, "Then I'll be your little lover?"

“Tsk.” Sang Li blushed. “Nothing in the painting counts.”

Bai Heng couldn't understand what they were saying, but he wasn't annoyed.

Bai Heng looked up, his expression calm: "Want to eat something together?"

“Perfect timing.” Lu Jin smiled like a fox without any politeness. “I haven’t eaten yet either.”

After saying that, he took the menu from the waiter, didn't even flip through it, and said directly, "I'll have this Wagyu beef, five plates, please."

Sang Li raised an eyebrow. "That must be two thousand yuan?"

Men have big appetites.

Bai Heng didn't even blink.

The charcoal fire sizzled, and the slices of lean and fatty meat on the grill began to glisten with oil, filling the air with a fragrant aroma.

Lu Jin rolled up his shirt sleeves, casually yet skillfully picked up a piece of beef, placed it in the center of the baking pan, and controlled the heat perfectly.

After flipping it over and baking it, I was just about to give this piece of beef to Sang Li.

“She’s already full,” Bai Heng said calmly, his tone unhurried.

Sang Li directly refused Lu Jin's offer.

Sang Li waved her hand awkwardly and patted her stomach: "I really have eaten enough."

"Really?" Lu Jin turned his head to look at her, his eyes falling on the sauce that was still not wiped off the corner of her mouth.

Sang Li: "Yes."

Bai Heng: "We had a very enjoyable meal."

"..."

Lu Jin clicked his tongue, still as infuriating as ever.

When it came time to pay the bill after the meal, Bai Heng insisted on paying without even looking at it, acting as calmly as if he were handling official business.

Lu Jin didn't argue, he just smiled slightly.

There's no reason not to pay the price for taking someone away.

It was truly an act of kindness on his part to let Sang Li stay with him for a while.

"Then we'll be going now." Sang Li waved.

"Okay, be careful on the road." Bai Heng still had that gentle look on his face.

Outside the car window, the night was a deep blue, and the streetlights receded one by one, like a quietly flowing river.

Lu Jin gripped the steering wheel with one hand and casually rested the other on his leg, asking, "Are you tired?"

His voice seemed full of gentleness as he inquired about his younger sister's brother.

Sang Li leaned back in the passenger seat, rubbed her eyes, and thought for a moment: "I'm not tired, I'm just stuffed."

Lu Jin then asked, "So, do you want to watch a movie?"

"Huh?"

She paused for a moment, then turned her head to look at him. The car's interior lights illuminated his profile, making it appear both sculpted and gentle, and his eyes shone brightly as if they held fire within them.

"Why are you looking at me with such gratitude?" Lu Jin asked slowly. "Why is your face red?"

"It's not red." She denied it instinctively, touching her burning earlobe.

The piano music playing softly inside the car created a dreamlike tranquility.

He paused for a moment, then said, "I remember you said you'd been looking forward to that zombie movie for a long time. We had planned to go see it together, and tonight's midnight showing is perfect for the atmosphere."

Sang Li blinked, didn't say anything, just looked at him.

She wasn't sure if it was just a hallucination from stepping out of the painting, but she suddenly felt a strange flutter in her heart, like the lingering warmth and fullness of a caramel pudding she had just swallowed, rising from her stomach to her heart.

"Aren't you tired?" she asked softly.

"I'm willing to stay with you."

Lu Jin's tone was deep, and his reply was like warm light, softly and irresistibly melting away her reason little by little.

It was very late.

but.

Sang Li covered her face, stared at him, and asked again, "Are you tired or not? I don't like your self-pity, and I don't need you to do anything for me. You didn't do anything wrong to me about the painting, so you don't need to compensate me."

"I wanted to go with you," Lu Jin repeated. "So, do you want to go?"

Sang Li opened her mouth, took a breath, and nodded: "Okay, I... I still want to go."

After speaking, Sang Li laughed, embarrassed by her frankness.

The vehicle is turning.

Movie tickets ordered.

The air conditioning in the movie theater was a bit cold, and the audience for the midnight screening was sparse, with only a few couples in the entire theater.

It's a niche film after all.

As soon as the lights went out, Sang Li found herself feeling a little sleepy.

On the screen, blood splattered, zombies chased after the main characters, and the soundtrack was deafeningly loud, but it was unclear whether the movie plot was too cliché or she was just too full.

Sang Li propped her head up and looked for a while, but her eyelids grew heavier and heavier.

She leaned back in her seat, her breathing deep and even. Unconsciously, her head tilted slightly and rested on Lu Jin's shoulder.

Lu Jin glanced at her sideways; her silhouette was both clear and blurry under the multicolored reflected lights.

Her long eyelashes trembled slightly, and the tip of her nose seemed to tremble with her breath.

She was the one who wanted to watch the movie.

I'm still tired.

In the dim light, her lips were slightly parted as she slept, like a rose that had just been sucked on sugar, glistening with moisture.

Lu Jin rubbed his fingers together.

Little liar, saying he'd been looking forward to it for ages, but he fell asleep faster than anyone else.

He slowly raised his hand, lifted the armrest of the seat between them, and pulled her into his arms.

Her body was warm and soft, her hair brushing against his nose. The scent of the castle still lingered in her hair, like cake, or the citrus scent carried on the evening breeze—subtle, yet captivating and sweet.

He tightened his arms around her, pulling her closer into his embrace.

Sang Li didn't wake up, but she moved slightly in his arms, shifting to a more comfortable position, resting her head on his shoulder, and muttering incoherently, though it was impossible to hear what she was saying.

After sleeping for about twenty minutes, Sang Li woke up groggily, feeling hot all over and sweating.

She looked at Lu Jin with an embarrassed expression: "Ah, I actually fell asleep."

Her voice was still hoarse from just waking up, her eyes were unfocused, and her wet eyelashes trembled like petals on a branch in early spring after being soaked by rain.

"Hmm." Lu Jin hummed, remaining seated on the sofa without moving.

Sang Li felt a little embarrassed by her impulsiveness. After all, she hadn't paid for the movie ticket, and Lu Jin had accompanied her to the movie. She tried to sit up, intending to create some distance between them, but she didn't control the angle well. When she looked up, the tip of her nose lightly brushed against his chin, and her lips almost touched his.

She froze, her heart skipped a beat, and a wave of heat exploded in her ears: "Holy crap..."

But the next second, Lu Jin heard the sound and instinctively looked down at her, wanting to see what was wrong with her.

Sang Li: !

She looked up, he looked down.

moment.

Their lips touched.

There was originally some distance.

But now.

Surprisingly, we ran into each other.

It was the kind of unexpected, completely unforeseen encounter that sparked a conflict in an instant.

What did this mean?

Lu Jin's eyes widened instantly, and he forgot to breathe.

Sang Li felt that some trend that shouldn't have been ignited had been set off, but she didn't push him away.

In that fleeting moment of confusion, it was as if the world had come to an abrupt halt.

She could even feel his arms tighten around her, his knuckles pressing against her back, and then, in the next second, as if he could no longer control himself, he tightened his grip, pulling her completely into his embrace.

Her mind went blank for a second.

Kiss?

And Lu Jin?

They kissed?

They really... kissed!

Sang Li shrank back as if she had done something wrong, staring blankly at Lu Jin.

Lu Jin's eyes were terrifyingly dark, and his gaze didn't waver. His movements were calm as if nothing had happened, and his voice was low and hoarse: "You're awake."

Sang Li's throat tightened, and she gave a soft "hmm".

She lowered her eyelashes, not daring to look at him.

It's so hot.

It's so hot.

It's going to catch fire.

The moment their lips met, she almost forgot who she was. Her mind was filled only with Lu Jin's deep eyes and sharp gaze, as if they were piercing her soul.

Lu Jin still held her tightly, not letting go.

“I…” Sang Li licked her lips and finally explained, “It was an accident.”

"It's nothing." Lu Jin's voice was hoarse, as if it had been scorched by fire, and even he could hear the abnormal tremor in his voice.

His voice was hoarse, and even his heartbeat was about to go out of control.

He had never openly kissed Sang Li's lips.

The surging energy seemed ready to burst forth.

He hasn't done anything yet; he's simply suppressing it by force.

Real, burning, her lips so close, soft as cotton from heaven.

I want to kiss him more deeply.

I wanted to hold her even tighter.

He wanted her to know what she meant to him.

But he could only hold on tightly, the burning sensation on his lips and teeth did not spread, even though he was almost torn apart by the surging desire within him.

“Sang Li”.

"Um?"

"fine."

She could hear his breathing, a suppressed, turbulent sound.
