Chapter 5 The Newcomer "This is the new kid?"...

Lu Jin is a good cook. For breakfast, he made Benedict chicken sandwich with smoked salmon, a small glass of iced orange juice, and hot milk that he specially prepared for himself.

I don't know how much better it is than the canteen at the shelter.

Lu Jin was still driving, and the two headed towards the BEAM office park.

He drives with one hand, but he drives smoothly.

Sang Li followed Lu Jin out of the car and looked up at the buildings in front of her.

"No wonder it's the government department with the highest budget," Sang Li exclaimed.

Lu Jin: "Hmm?"

There's a hidden meaning in his words.

He now has a good grasp of Sang Li's temperament and character, and he's sure she'll say something surprising soon.

Sang Li narrowed her eyes and smiled obsequiously, "So you're so rich, and you work for a government department, then I'll be considered an external expert! And since I'm from a minority group, will my social insurance and housing fund contributions be the highest possible? Plus, there's a service fee, commercial insurance, and preferably a housing allowance..."

"..."

He knew it!

Lu Jin: "I'll talk to HR."

Sang Li continued with a smile: "Yes, let's work together to build a harmonious society."

Lu Jin scoffed: "One minute you think you're human, the next you say you're an anomaly. You only use whichever identity brings you the most benefit. I've never seen such a fickle person before."

Sang Li nodded: "That's right, what else can I do? I can't work for free. It's only real when I have the money in my hand. I can't work for nothing. Isn't the point of living to make money? Otherwise, what's the point?"

Say what you want.

"You don't agree?" Sang Li asked curiously. "Do you work for your beliefs? To arrest bad people like us?"

Her tone was light and airy, but she emphasized the word "bad guy," as if she had tapped Lu Jin's chest with a small hammer.

He glanced down at it: "Keep up, don't be late."

BEAM's office park is located in the suburbs of Kamijing City, with a dedicated highway access. The park covers a vast area, and the main building is only three stories high, with large areas of glass on the exterior walls that reflect the sky, creating a flowing, water-like effect. The park is dotted with large lawns and low bushes, interspersed with futuristic sculptures and an artificial lake.

The main building is an administrative office building, not their office location.

“Come with me,” Lu Jin said.

She followed him, scanning her surroundings, but didn't see a single employee.

"Where is he?" she couldn't help but ask.

“BEAM is a mission-driven organization. Each team has its own independent office area, and there is little personnel turnover. You won’t see people who don’t need to show up,” Lu Jin explained without turning his head. “If you miss home, you can go back to your containment facility.”

"No, I'll go back next week when I see Bai Heng," Sang Li waved her hand.

Lu Jin paused in his steps: "Next week?"

Sang Li: "You need to examine me."

Lu Jin snorted: "You're quite enthusiastic."

Sang Li: "Can you please stop being so sarcastic all the time? It's not like I can't understand you. What, you don't like Bai Heng?"

Lu Jin didn't speak.

Sang Li: "Everyone likes him a lot, I think he's a great guy."

She saw Lu Jin's eyebrows twitch and then quickly lower, clearly angered by her. Although Sang Li had no idea that Lu Jin and Bai Heng were completely unrelated, how could they have a conflict?

Sang Li followed Lu Jin to a conference room.

As soon as the door opened, a cold draft rushed out.

A tall woman sat on the edge of the conference table. Hearing the noise, she looked directly at Sang Li and said, "Boss, you're too late."

The woman's long hair was tied high in a ponytail, and her honey-colored skin glowed with a healthy sheen under the fluorescent lights. Her white tank top clung to her body, outlining her muscles, making her look very strong.

"Yu Qi," Lu Jin introduced.

"Is this the new kid?" Her voice was pleasant and strong, and it made you feel very safe.

Sang Li nodded slightly; "I am Sang Li."

"Welcome to the conference room, little one!" A soft laugh came from the other side of the conference table.

A tall, slender man leaned back in his chair, arms crossed over his chest.

His messy hair looked like it hadn't been styled in days, he wore an old hooded jacket, and had beautiful grey-blue eyes. His tone was light and cheerful: "Hello, new kid. My name is Tang Lan, and I'm a technical monitor."

As he introduced himself, he pulled a piece of candy from his pocket and tossed it to Sang Li: "This is a welcome gift for joining the team. If you don't accept it, you'll be treated like an outsider. I bought it on my last business trip. It's a milk candy that you can't even buy through personal shoppers anymore. It even has a hazelnut filling inside."

Sang Li reluctantly caught the candy, glanced at Lu Jin, and seeing that he didn't say anything, put the candy in her mouth.

tasty!

So sweet!

Lu Jin looked at her and realized he had really married a little kid.
