Chapter 521: Rain and the Follow-up

The children all came out early in the morning. There was some water in the yard. The children stepped on the water and ran happily in the solar system.

"If I don't bask in the sun any longer, I'll get moldy." Lin Heng sighed as he basked in the sun.

Xiulan nodded and said, "It's been a lot colder since the rain, and now the temperature is just right for basking in the sun."

Lin Heng quietly basked in the sun for a few minutes, then stood up and said, "Let's cook first. I'll help wash Xiaoxia's hair when she goes to school."

Xiulan nodded in agreement and went into the house to fry shredded potatoes. She had made soft biscuits yesterday and planned to make wraps in the morning.

Lin Heng took the grains and the bucket to the back mountain. Xiaoxia followed him and ran over, vying to release the chicken from the cage.

"Coo, coo, coo!"

After letting them out, she poured a mixture of millet and corn ears on the ground. A group of chickens immediately ran over and started eating with a clucking sound.

Xiaoxia smiled brightly when she saw the chickens eating. Lin Heng also liked watching the chickens running around and looking for food. He felt a different kind of happiness.

Lin Heng took a look and went to milk the cows. Xiaoxia picked two autumn cucumbers and came to him and said, "Dad, I want to eat this."

"Go back and wash them before eating." Lin Heng said with a smile.

"Okay." Xiaoxia nodded, looked at the big cow, and asked curiously why cows produce milk.

Lin Heng explained to her while he was working, and soon he had milked enough. This dairy cow was a new one, and it had been separated from the calf a long time ago. It had been pregnant for a long time and was expected to give birth in June or July next year.

Most of the roads in the back mountain were paved with bluestone slabs, so their feet would not get dirty. They went straight back into the house. Lin Heng heated up the milk, and Xiaoxia asked her mother to wash and grate the cucumber and add it to the wraps she was eating.

After breakfast, Xiaoxia happily went to school holding Lin Heng’s hand. Lin Heng watched her walk into the classroom before returning home with peace of mind.

It rained continuously for so many days that the ground became like a swamp, sinking wherever you stepped on it. By the time Lin Heng returned home, the yellow mud under his feet was four or five centimeters thick.

He spent some time cleaning the soles of his shoes before taking them off and placing them next to the screen, then put on a pair of slippers and went into the house.

"Don't go out today. Let's wait until tomorrow. There's water everywhere. It's too bad." Lin Heng shook his head.

"We have to dry it in the sun for two days before we can go out." Xiulan nodded. There was nothing that could be done about it once it rained in the countryside.

They first took out the quilts in the house and dried them in the sun, and then Xiulan made shampoo using several plants including soapberry, cypress, golden mulberry bark, and Polygonum multiflorum.

After it is cooked and cooled, you can wash it. Xiulan will soak her hair in it for a while, and then Lin Heng will wash it with clean water. After that, apply a little conditioner and it will be done. Then you can let your hair sit in the sun to dry slowly.

She was wearing a white shirt today and blue trousers. Her hair was waist-length, black and straight, making her look like a gentle sister next door.

After finally seeing the sun, Lin Heng also wanted to bask in the sun quietly, so he put some charcoal in the ceramic stove and placed it on the stone table to make tea.

They took out some fruits and snacks, and the two of them sat in chairs across the stone table, drinking tea while basking in the sun.

Xiongba and Dazhuang were also lying on the ground lazily and motionless. Jinbao, who had not been seen for a long time, also appeared under the eaves.

The two children first played with small cars in the yard. When they got tired, they ran to the two of them to ask for food, and then went to tease Xiongba and Dazhuang.

Xiulan's hair dried quickly. Her long and straight black hair fluttered in the wind under the sun. She tied it behind her head with a silk scarf, then sat down next to Lin Heng with a bench.

"Husband, come here, let me clean your ears." She said softly.

"I've been waiting for you." Lin Heng grinned, lay down and closed his eyes comfortably.

The happy morning passed quickly. At noon, Xiulan simply made noodles and some braised meat for dinner.

After sending Xiaoxia back to school in the afternoon, Lin Heng went to Hongfeng Mountain to check on it and asked his father. Basically, there were no problems there.

Although the rain lasted for a long time, it was not particularly heavy, so it did not cause any damage. On the contrary, the shrimps in the pond are now fully mature and can be considered for sale.

"I put down the cage this morning. There must be quite a lot of fish now. You can take some back and feed them to the children." Father Lin looked at Lin Heng and said.

"That's fine, you should just eat it yourself, don't be reluctant." Lin Heng said while looking at the two of them.

"We're not reluctant to do so. We've eaten enough of the braised dishes you brought us these days." Lin's mother said that Lin Heng brought too much, and they were afraid that the meat they had eaten for two days would go bad.

"I'll go hunt some more in the fall." Lin Heng said with a smile. The wild boar meat wasn't very good, but the offal tasted really good after being braised.

Seeing that Lin Heng was about to leave after speaking, Lin's father said, "Son, you are going to the pig farm, right? I will go out for a walk with you."

"Okay, let's go." Lin Heng nodded in agreement.

Together with his father, they went to the pig farm below, and when they got here, they could see a large stream of water flowing out of the ditch.

The two men came to the gate from the side road, and suddenly a dog started barking. Soon Zhang Feng ran over and opened the door.

"Brother Lin, Uncle Lin, we are feeding the pigs now, and Li Shilei is still busy." Zhang Feng said.

Lin Heng nodded and asked as he walked in, "Nothing happened to the pig farm during the rainy days, right?"

Zhang Feng shook his head: "No, the drainage ditch is well built, and all the water flows out of the ditch. The whole pig farm is fine except for some mud."

Lin Heng nodded and walked towards the pig farm. Because of the rain, the pigs were all in the pigsty, eating feed in big mouthfuls.

"These pigs are so big. They must be more than 300 pounds, right?" Father Lin said in shock as he looked at the pigs.

I only started raising it in April, and it has grown so big now. It's really too fast.

"After all, they are eating feed. By the end of the year, it will reach about 500 kilograms." Lin Heng said with a smile.

The pork here cannot be compared with that from native pigs in the countryside, but there is no problem with the quality of the meat, and there is no problem in selling it in the city.

"Lin Heng, uncle!"

Li Shilei, who was feeding the pigs, saw Lin Heng and the other man and greeted them with a smile.

He was very happy staying here for more than half a year. Not only was there no one to disturb him, but he also learned a lot about raising pigs. The work was easier than growing crops, and he earned more money.

The only inconvenience is that I can’t go home, so I haven’t touched my wife for more than half a year.

He was particularly grateful to see Lin Heng. Without Lin Heng, he would never have been able to find such a good job.

Lin Heng chatted with him for a while, looked around and left with his father. Before leaving, he reminded the two of them to do a thorough disinfection when the weather cleared up and not to be stingy with the disinfectant.

"It seems that you have really raised these pigs, son. Once you sell them, you will be a millionaire soon." After leaving the pig farm, Lin's father patted Lin Heng on the shoulder and said.

Lin Heng grinned: "That should not be far away."

In addition to this, he had not yet told his father the good news that the feed factory was about to be demolished.

"It's really unbelievable." Father Lin sighed and walked outside.

Lin Heng said a few words to his father, and they chose to take a small path in the mountains to go back.

This path happens to pass by the chestnut forest that they just grafted this year.

Arriving in the forest, Lin Heng looked around and found that the branches grafted in the spring had generally grown five or six times thicker. It looked like the chestnut forest was about to be established.

"Let's come back next year to clean it up. It should be able to bear fruit the year after next," said Father Lin.

"It should be no problem." Lin Heng nodded. With such a large chestnut forest, it should be easy to harvest several thousand kilograms of chestnuts a year.

After the viewing, they quickly returned to the village along the mountain road.

Lin Heng went to Hongfeng Mountain to get some prawns and brought them home. He didn't go out again in the afternoon except to pick up Xiaoxia from school.

The next day he did some chores outside his house, picking some fruits and vegetables and tidying up the vegetable patch.

That afternoon, Lin Heng had just picked up five eggs and returned home when his eldest brother Lin Yue pushed open the door and walked in quickly, saying, "Brother, great news."

"What's the matter?" Lin Heng and Xiulan came out together, looking puzzled.

Lin Yue handed the newspaper in his hand to Lin Heng and said with a smile: "Look at the newspaper. The previous incident with the human traffickers has been resolved, and the two of us were even on the newspaper."

Lin Heng took it and looked at it, and found that it was indeed the matter of the two human traffickers.

After interrogation at the police station, not only did the old man and woman confess the truth, but they also uncovered a small human trafficking organization, which made Liu Guifang achieve a great success.

There was naturally no problem with things like the motorcycle. According to the files, the motorcycle had already fallen into the water and was scrapped, so no one would ask about it anymore.

His elder brother only needs to get a new license plate to have his own motorcycle.

"Haha, congratulations, big brother." Lin Heng said with a smile after reading it.

"This is all thanks to you. My mind isn't that quick." Lin Yue said with a smile.

"By the way, the police station said they have a letter of commendation and a flag for our bravery in doing the right thing to give us." Lin Yue said again.

"That's easy. We can just find time to get it back someday." Lin Heng nodded.

"Then come to my house for dinner tonight and we'll celebrate. I just happened to shoot three bamboo chickens yesterday." Lin Yue said again.

"No problem, I'll be there in the evening." Lin Heng said with a smile.

After sending his eldest brother back, Lin Heng looked at the newspaper again, and then said to Xiulan: "Let's go pick chestnuts tomorrow morning."

"Okay." Xiulan agreed with a smile.

In the evening, they had a big dinner at the eldest brother's house, and then the eldest sister-in-law and Lin's mother agreed to go pick chestnuts together the next day.

Early the next morning, they set out and headed for Chestnut Mountain.

After the rain, the chestnuts fell from the trees. It was quite easy to pick them up. You could see some after walking a few steps.

Several people were busy picking up things in the mountains. The joy of harvest was the most joyful thing.

Lin Heng and Xiulan picked up the trash for the whole morning and then went back. Lin Heng picked up about 15 or 16 kilograms, and Xiulan picked up more, about 20 kilograms.

In fact, they are all late. Those who come earlier can pick up 70 to 80 kilograms a day and sell them for a lot of money.

The two walked back with chestnuts on their backs, thinking about all kinds of delicious food. Xiulan wanted to make chestnut rice, so she peeled and chopped the chestnuts and cooked them with rice. It tasted fragrant and glutinous.

Lin Heng planned to kill a big rooster and stew it with some Codonopsis pilosula and Astragalus membranaceus.

"Then let's do it all. Let's not treat ourselves unfairly." Lin Heng said, pulling Xiulan.

"Okay." Xiulan nodded with a smile.

It was already half past twelve when the two returned to the house. Xiaoxia didn't have school today, Sunday, so she and her brother were at Hongfeng Mountain, being looked after by Lin's father.

When Lin Heng passed by, he didn't rush to call them, but went home alone.

"Oh, it's still a little hot."

Xiulan put her things down and took off her blue plaid shirt.

She was wearing a white suspender underneath, which immediately exposed her proud assets and rose and fell with her breathing.

"Drink some first." Lin Heng handed her the water on the table and watched her drink.

Xiulan noticed his gaze and glared at him, but did not do anything else and was happy to show it to him.

Lin Heng took her cup of water, drank the rest, then turned on the fan for both of them to cool down.

Although the temperature is lower than before, it is still over 20 degrees Celsius on a sunny day, and it is impossible not to feel hot while carrying things.

Xiulan sat next to Brother Lin. After she had a good rest, she reached out to remove the spider silk from her hair, and went to get some water for them to wash their faces.

Xiulan thought for a moment, looked at Lin Heng and said, "I want to drink sweet wine. Go make me some. I'll go cook two dishes and we'll eat some steamed buns."

"Okay." Lin Heng nodded in agreement and went to get the rice wine that had just been brewed two days ago to make tea.

They fried some shredded potatoes and some pickled green beans with meat, and also grabbed some pickled bamboo shoots and radish strips. They put them on the small table and watched each other eat and drink.

Without children, the home was unusually quiet, allowing the two of them to enjoy their rare time alone.

“I’m so full!”

Xiulan said with emotion after she was full.

Lin Heng also smiled and nodded. His stomach and spirit were full at noon today.

After clearing the dishes, Xiulan said, "Let's peel the chestnuts before the children come back."

Lin Heng nodded. Peeling chestnuts was a difficult job. Fortunately, he made a simple cross-shaped shell opener using wood and a blade.

Put the chestnuts on and press them to cut into cross-shaped cuts. After cutting, put them in the pan and fry them for a while, and most of the chestnuts will be shelled out.

It sounds simple, but in fact the two of them were busy for a whole afternoon. When they finally saw a basin of golden shelled chestnuts, they looked at each other with happy and satisfied smiles in their eyes.

"Now let's package it and put it in the freezer." Xiulan fed Lin Heng two pills with a sweet smile.

They have a self-sealing plastic bag that is specially used to hold a pound of sugar, which is also suitable for holding chestnut kernels.

In the end they ordered three packets, one for making chestnut rice, one for stewing chicken, and the remaining one for the children as a snack.

After finishing, Xiulan put on a white shirt and buttoned it up high so that not a single piece was exposed.

"Let's go to Red Maple Mountain to pick up the children."

After putting on her clothes, Xiulan stretched out her hand to Lin Heng and said.

"Let's go." Lin Heng took her hand and walked out. The two of them walked side by side through the village and came to Hongfeng Mountain.

Mother Lin had also returned by this time. Seeing them coming, she smiled and waved, "Son, Xiulan, you left too early. We left late and found a good thing."
