Chapter 10 This won't work

Chapter 10 This won't work

Liu Xingchun told Song Lubai many times that she was envious.

Although it was mentioned quite a few times today, Song Lubai didn't take it to heart.

She said she was envious. In the past, it would have made her feel proud, but after it happened so many times, it no longer stirred any emotion in her.

"Auntie, is that her brother or her boyfriend next to her?"

Song Lubai recalled the man in military uniform who was next to Ma Xiaohe earlier.

Although she couldn't see the other person's face clearly, she was certain that she had never seen him before. She also knew Ma Xiaohe's brothers, so it could only be a young man she had just met.

This Ma Xiaohe, it's only been a short time since I last saw her, and she's already found someone. That's fast.

She shook her head: "I don't know them either, and I don't know what their relationship is. Don't make things up."

Liu Xingchun: "What's the big deal? Even if you're dating, it's not a big deal. Wang Caixia from my village is a year younger than me. She got married last year and is about to give birth."

Song Lubai is only a month or so older than Liu Xingchun; both of them are not even nineteen yet.

If she were in the village at this age, even if she wasn't married, she would already have a husband's family arranged for her.

Liu Xingchun nudged Song Lubai's arm and asked softly, "Don't you have a boy you like?"

Song Lubai shook her head, "I want to get a job first; I'm not in a rush to find a boyfriend."

There's no rush.

“Your aunt introduced me to someone from your village before, telling me how good their conditions were. If they were that good, why didn’t she tell you?”

Liu Xingchun mentally counted on her fingers, "The person my aunt told you must be related to my family, how could she tell me?"

Song Lubai snorted noncommittally, "Then tell me what your aunt is thinking. Why would I choose a villager she picked over when I have plenty of young men in the city? If I had to choose you, villager or city guy, which would you pick?"

Liu Xingchun defended Liu Mei, saying, "Didn't you say you liked good-looking people? The one my aunt introduced to you is the son of our village secretary. Everyone who sees him says he's good-looking. He even went to high school. In our village, he's one of the best."

People with rural household registration cannot attend high school in the city; if they want to attend high school, they can only ask someone to help them.

The Party Secretary was the most powerful person in the village and had more connections than other villagers, which enabled him to send his son to high school in the county town and even get a temporary job there.

These conditions are indeed top-notch in the village; for an ordinary village girl to marry him would be considered a stroke of good fortune.

But if it were any young woman with an urban household registration, the secretary's son would be the one marrying above her station.

Liu Mei thought that the secretary's son was good-looking enough, and hoped that Song Lubai would be attracted to his face and marry him because of it.

Unfortunately, Song Lubai showed absolutely no reaction when she saw the person.

When Zhang Cui found out, she looked at her as if she wanted to devour her.

Liu Mei was in the wrong, so she bought a lot of things and went to Zhang Cui's house to apologize afterward, which prevented her from offending Zhang Cui too much.

Song Lubai remembered that she had said she wanted to find someone handsome, because if someone was too ugly, she wouldn't even be able to enjoy her meal.

Being good-looking is of no use at all.

Being good-looking can't put food on the table, it can't get you tickets, or a city residency permit or a job.

Her aunt said that she shouldn't look for a partner from the village.

Even if the man goes to the city, his parents and a large family of relatives are still waiting for him to return to the village to help out. His salary is limited, and a large portion of it will have to be spent on his family, making life difficult for his own family.

Song Lubai listened to her aunt more than her mother.

Her aunt spoke with reason and evidence, which convinced her.

Liu Xingchun was speechless after being cornered. She couldn't say anything bad about her aunt in front of Song Lubai, otherwise what kind of person would she be?

After holding it in for a while, she said, "Isn't it all in the past? Why are you still angry?"

Lin Jinyao tugged at Song Lubai's sleeve, "Auntie, did my mom make you angry? Please don't be angry with her, okay?"

Song Lubai shook her head: "I'm not angry anymore. I just hate it when people treat me like a fool. It's actually very obvious, I can see through it at a glance."

Liu Xingchun, who was determined to marry a city man, felt a pang of anxiety and looked at Song Lubai guiltily, suspecting that she had seen through her intentions.

Feeling guilty, Liu Xingchun stopped talking and walked very fast in the second half of the race.

After arriving home safely, she saw her mother sewing pants, with a pair of unfinished cloth shoes on the stool next to her.

The cloth shoes are rose-red; they were made for Song Lubai.

Having enough needles at home, Song Lubai sat down, put on a thimble, and began sewing shoe soles.

Making cloth shoes is quite troublesome; she doesn't know how to do anything else, she only knows how to stitch the soles step by step.

After asking about the work situation, Zhang Cui said, "No matter how much money you earn in a month, give ten yuan home every month. You will eat at home, so consider it as paying for your meals. Save the rest."

Song Lubai had no objections.

When she worked as a temporary worker in the factory, taking over her mother's job, she paid 15 yuan a month, but she could only save a few yuan.

However, things are different now.

She is currently working on her own, and she was surprised that she only has to pay ten yuan a month for her job.

She had originally thought that if she had to pay another fifteen yuan, she would try to negotiate for two or three yuan less.

If she saves a few extra dollars each month, she can watch two more movies. And if the department store has any new trinkets that don't require tickets, she'll buy them without hesitation.

When I visit my aunt in the county town, she can also buy some things with her own money.

Anyway, having more money on hand will definitely come in handy.

As for not handing over a single penny, that's impossible.

Even with a thimble, Song Lubai's hands couldn't sew the shoe soles quickly enough, and she even bent the needle.

Zhang Cui said disdainfully, "If you have this kind of skill when you get to your husband's family, you'll be despised to death."

Song Lubai knew that she had a husband's family naturally existing since birth, and it was hard not to feel disgusted every time she heard such words.

I don't know if your in-laws dislike it or not, but you definitely do.

Zhang Cui snatched the cloth shoes, straightened the needle, and seeing her stand up, said again, "Come here, I haven't finished speaking yet."

Song Lubai yawned. "Is there anything else?"

Zhang Cui: "I've inquired about that young man at the department store. He's a permanent employee with a good job. His mother works in the Bureau of Culture and Sports, and his father works in the Bureau of Commerce. He has two sons and two daughters. Li Guangming is the third child, and the youngest is in high school. The other three all have jobs. I met this young man during the day. He's good-looking too. I think he's a good match. He's suitable in all aspects."

Song Lubai was dumbfounded.

In just a few days, her mother had found out everything about Li Guangming's situation.

Did they come to check the household registration?

"Such conditions are absolutely sought after, and your aunt would agree if she knew."

"So what I mean is, when they send a message over there next time, find an opportunity for the two of you to meet and see each other."

Before Song Lubai could react, Zhang Cui looked up and urged her, "What do you mean?"

Song Lubai shook her head and said firmly, "This won't work!"

Who knows if Li Guangming was really cursed to death by her?

If he had gotten engaged to her, he would have died not long after...

Or was Li Guangming just destined to die young?

She didn't want him to die, and she didn't want things to actually turn out the way they did in her dream!
