Chapter 164

Chapter 164

Wang Hai's family's house has the same layout as the 25 brick houses in the complex, with one large living room and two small bedrooms. The estimated interior area is at least 50 square meters.

Wang Haiquan's two sons and one daughter are currently only six years old, and his youngest son is just over one year old and still needs diapers.

The children's eyes were full of curiosity when they saw strangers coming to their house.

Seeing that there were mixed grain steamed buns in the kitchen, Song Lubai found the place where the grains were stored in the cupboard, put the pot on, and started cooking porridge and steaming the buns.

She asked, "Does your mom usually cook for you?"

The six-year-old boy nodded and pointed outside the door, saying, "Stir-fried radishes and cabbage."

There was also a small mud house in the yard, less than two meters high, with lots of green radishes, cabbages, sweet potatoes and potatoes piled up inside, covered with a thick layer of dry wheat straw.

Song Lubai took out two potatoes, cut them into shreds, and since she couldn't find any oil for stir-frying, she rinsed them in hot water, then added salt and vinegar and made a cold salad.

Feng Ying washed the diapers that the children had changed, and then collected the dirty thermal underwear of the three children and soaked it in a basin.

Wang Hai's house was always kept quite clean, and the three children were not very noisy. The two of them didn't have much work to do, and they spent most of their time sitting around the stove to warm themselves before going to bed.

After bolting the gate, I returned to find Wang Haiquan's eldest son, Wang Jiandong, standing in front of the stove, holding several saline bottles in his hands.

Feng Ying asked, "Do you want to fill the bed with water to warm it up?"

Wang Jiandong nodded.

Song Lubai had never used this wonderful thing to warm her bed back in her hometown.

I poured hot water into a glass bottle, put it in bed, and my feet weren't so cold anymore.

There were five glass bottles in total, and Wang Jiandong gave three to the two of them.

The beds on both sides were the same size. After discussing it, Song Lubai and Feng Ying decided to let Wang Haiquan's second daughter stay in the children's room, and let Wang Jiandong and his brother stay in his parents' room.

The two got up before dawn.

The two of them have to go to class today, and they also have to cook breakfast for three children, so they naturally have to get up early.

Fearing that lighting the fire in the morning would waste time, Song Lubai got up once during the night to add coal and lifted the kettle; sure enough, the fire inside was still burning.

If they were to start a fire, it would take them another half hour, given their abilities.

The two of them quickly cooked the meal and kept it warm in the pot, then went to wake Wang Jiandong up.

Wang Jiandong sat up groggily, subconsciously touched the spot next to him, and said, "He wet the bed again."

Song Lubai said, "Take the bed sheet off in a bit. The food is cooked and in the hot pot. Don't let the fire burn out."

Although Wang Jiandong is only six years old, he can already do a lot of housework. Hearing this, he nodded and obediently said, "I know, you can go without worry. I will look after my younger brother and sister."

"Don't wander around at home, your dad might be back by noon."

The two ran all the way back to the business department and arrived just in time for breakfast in the cafeteria.

The two of them hadn't eaten any of Director Wang's food last night and were starving.

They went to the classroom with the rest of the group, and everyone was a little surprised to see the person standing on the podium.

The person who taught the class today was actually Director Zhou, oh no, I should call him Minister Zhou.

The newly posted personnel appointments show that Director Zhou has become the Minister of the Supply and Marketing Department.

Director Zhou put down his things and left the classroom, not knowing where he went. Wang Qun, who was sitting to Song Lubai's left, whispered, "Do you know Lu Xingye? He's the head of the personnel department now."

Song Lubai had no idea who this person was, and her eyes were filled with confusion.

"That guy with a limp and a problem with one eye, he used to be a military officer who transferred to this area."

This reminder made Song Lubai realize the situation.

What's wrong with him?

Wang Qun's voice was so low that Song Lubai almost couldn't hear him: "I heard that Sun Hong and he are quite close. Some people say that Sun Hong helps him with his laundry."

Song Lubai said, "You should say less. Don't talk nonsense about things you didn't see with your own eyes."

Wang Qun disagreed, saying, "I didn't see it, but others did."

"You see, she's always so quiet, but she's actually quite shrewd. Did she already know that he's the head of the personnel department, which is why she's so eager to curry favor with him?"

Song Lubai felt that Sun Hong didn't know, and Sun Hong didn't seem to have that much cunning.

But doing laundry isn't anything shameful, so if it leads to a good job, it's worth it.

Song Lubai countered, "If he asked you to wash, would you wash?"

After hesitating for a moment, Wang Qun honestly nodded.

If doing something can lead to a good job, then the work is worthwhile.

Thinking about it this way, Sun Hong's behavior is not shameful at all.

Everyone's been working hard behind the scenes lately, so how can those of them who don't know where to start but keep hearing about who's got connections not be anxious?

As whispers filled the classroom, Director Zhou returned, and everyone automatically quieted down.

Director Zhou had a faint smile on his face: "You didn't expect me to be the one giving the lesson today, did you?"

Everyone honestly shook their heads.

Director Zhou continued, "I heard from the teachers that you all performed quite well. You've certainly heard enough of the textbook content, so today I'll talk about how our supply and marketing department should serve the people..."

Director Zhou speaks in a gentle and unhurried manner, with clear and logical reasoning, making it very engaging to listen to.

Compared to Director Zhou's lectures, Song Lubai actually felt that the previous courses were all empty talk and grandiose.

Serving the people is not just something that can be said or written on paper. They should know what they are supposed to do, how it actually works, and what role it plays in society.

As Director Zhou explained these issues one by one, everyone gained a clearer understanding of them.

This was the only class that didn't assign homework, and everyone was still listening intently when class ended.

Two hours before the cafeteria opened for lunch, Song Lubai and Feng Ying went to Wang Hai's house first.

Director Wang isn't home right now. The child said he came back briefly before, packed his things, and went to the hospital.

Wang Jiandong looked up and said, "Dad said he brought Mom and my younger brother back at noon."

As soon as he finished speaking, a voice came from the courtyard gate.

Wang Haiquan returned carrying the child and Yan Fang, who was wrapped up tightly in her clothes.

Both the baby and the new mother were wrapped up very tightly.

Yan Fang entered the room, pulled the scarf off her face, and said, "You must be Xiao Song. Thank you so much for last night."

Song Lubai said, "Feng Ying and I didn't do anything, so there's no need to thank me."

Looking at the wrinkled, red-faced child, Feng Ying said, "Director Wang, all four of your children have eyes that look like yours, curved into slits, making them look like they're smiling. You're so lucky."

Yan Fang said with a smile, "He's just not like me; he inherited all of my small eyes."

Song Lubai looked at the four children in the room and wanted to ask them if they wanted to have more children. If they did, the room would be too small for them to live in.

The arrival of a new baby is a joyous occasion, and the family was certainly unhappy with her saying that, so she swallowed her words.
