Chapter 185 Meeting
As the meeting was about to start, Song Lubai followed the group into the conference room.
The middle of the meeting room is empty, with one row at the top and two rows on the left and right sides below.
Song Lubai found a seat behind Vice Minister Lou and sat down.
A few moments later, a number of leaders came in from outside, and Song Lubai saw Chen Weiliang from behind the crowd.
During the meeting, Chen Weiliang and a male comrade stood at two corners above, their backs ramrod straight.
After the meeting began, the leaders read the documents issued by the central government. Song Lubai's hands moved so fast they seemed to take off, and the writing was neat and orderly. During the breaks, she looked to her left and right and saw that the people on both sides were also engrossed in writing.
After reading the document, the leaders praised several units that had achieved outstanding results last year.
The unit leader who was named seemed quite pleased with himself.
The supply and marketing department was also mentioned, but not as a compliment; it was given a warning.
As a crucial department for safeguarding basic livelihoods, it is imperative to ensure effective resource allocation and maintain stable production order.
Having finished discussing the issues related to the supply and marketing department, Song Lubai summarized the following two important points:
1. Rectify market irregularities and eliminate illegal buying and selling that disrupts the market;
2: Collaborate with public security agencies to address the problem of vagrants reselling goods.
The migrants from other provinces do not engage in production; they only engage in speculative and illegal trading activities, disrupting market order.
The conference lasted for more than three hours, and by the time it ended, it was already lunchtime.
The division headquarters didn't provide meals, and since Deputy Commander Lou wanted to go home for dinner, Song Lubai couldn't very well let her superior ride her back to the unit.
When she arrived at the canteen, starving, there were only a few steamed buns left that morning that hadn't been sold.
Song Lubai bought two steamed buns, got some hot water, and went back to her dormitory to eat them with watermelon sauce and beans.
"You're back just in time. After get off work this afternoon, could you help me move my things? My boyfriend works in the accounting training team, and our dorm is over there too. I'm getting married tomorrow, so I'm moving all my things over today."
Wu Xiulian handed Song Lubai a handful of melon seeds, saying, "Come join the fun tomorrow."
Song Lubai had already heard that Wu Xiulian was getting married. After congratulating her, she asked, "Are your parents and his parents coming?"
Wu Xiulian shook her head, "That's impossible. The round-trip fare for one person is over a hundred yuan, which my family can't afford. Let's settle things here, go back to his hometown for the Spring Festival this year, and then go to my parents' home. That will be perfect."
Liu Yun said, "My boyfriend and I are planning to go to his hometown to get married. We got our marriage certificate a long time ago, but we don't have a place to live. We don't know when we can apply for a single dormitory. You are so lucky. Your boyfriend has already applied for a dormitory."
When the house was mentioned, Wu Xiulian smiled.
Song Lubai asked, "Aren't there a few empty dorm rooms upstairs? Didn't you apply for housing?"
She knew that Section Chief Lu lived in a single dormitory room by himself.
Wu Xiulian said, "You don't know? In a while, everyone in the building will have to move out, and this place will be used as the former office of the supply department."
"Weren't those newly built buildings over there?"
Liu Yun said, "I don't know what they do there. I heard that we'll all have to move to bungalows later."
In the afternoon, after going to the office and seeing Dai Shuhua, Song Lubai quickly asked, "Sister Shuhua, do you know Ma Song from the cotton mill?"
Recently, Song Lubai has been working diligently in the office and hasn't caused any trouble, so Dai Shuhua and the other two have no complaints about her.
Having someone to share the workload, being able to quickly refill the teapot when it's empty, and even wiping the table for them from time to time—who wouldn't dislike a colleague like that?
Dai Shuhua was taken aback, and after realizing what she meant, she asked, "Did you go to a meeting with Vice Minister Lou this morning?"
Song Lubai nodded.
Dai Shuhua curled her lips and said, "I know that Ma Song. He's no good. You should stay away from him."
"I don't know why Ma Song is such a bad guy," Song Lubai said. "He asked me about bicycle tickets. I was thinking that maybe I could get him to help me get some cloth tickets, so I gave him a little information. If you had told him earlier that he was a bad guy, I wouldn't have told him."
Guo Bo said, "It's no use telling him. Anyway, all four tickets are for the company's use, and he can't get them."
Guo Bo left with the materials, leaving only two female colleagues in the office. Dai Shuhua then whispered, "That Ma Song had an engaged woman back in his hometown. Six months after their marriage, his fiancée came looking for him, and the girl had to go back to where she came from. Tell me, he didn't even tell her he was married, dragging her out until she was twenty-three. Now he's dating the daughter of a leader at the power bureau. Do you think someone like that is a good person? He asked me about the bicycle ticket before, but I ignored him."
If Ma Song deliberately drags that girl out of marriage until she's twenty-three, then he's really a scoundrel.
The problem lay with Ma Song's character, not with her work, so Song Lubai was relieved.
This year marks the beginning of a special year, and she's determined to be more careful from now on. She's not exchanging her cloth ration coupons anymore. The meeting just talked about cracking down on market irregularities, and even though she's dressed nicely, she still feels a little uneasy.
Women often find themselves most relatable when discussing these kinds of things, and after Su Youwei entered, the two of them fell silent.
"Notify all departments to have a meeting at five o'clock. Xiao Song, go to the supplies department."
After responding, Song Lubai put on a scarf and hat, and also brought the meeting minutes she had taken that morning.
The original supply depot was several streets away from the commercial office, and it took Song Lubai more than 20 minutes to run there.
There are many warehouses here, but the offices are still single-story buildings.
Song Lubai went to Vice Minister Lou's office first, told him about the meeting, and then handed him her notebook.
Lou Yuchun looked at the neat and tidy handwriting in the notebook, the clear and concise content, and the new page summarizing the work assigned by the division headquarters. He was satisfied with Song Lubai's work attitude.
"From now on, you will sit in the seat that Xiao Yuan used to sit in. You can look at all the documents on his desk. There are several documents on his desk. Write a summary for me based on the previous summary report."
Lou Yuchun still preferred Yuan Lin, but he didn't have anyone else available, so he had to make do for now. Fortunately, it seemed that this woman was quite capable.
Song Lubai asked, "Do we need the report on Monday?"
Deputy Minister Lou said, "There's no rush. Just give it to me on Wednesday and let me know when to attend the meeting."
The meeting decided to establish a new office within the ministry to combat illegal economic activities, recruit a group of informal personnel to stake out the market, catch people who secretly resell goods, and send any vagrants they encounter to the public security organs, who will then register them and send them to the branch farms below.
Externally, it means setting up a new office to arrest people; internally, it means warning internal staff to use their power to do things that violate discipline.
…
After the meeting, as Song Lubai returned to her office to pack her things, she heard Su Youwei sigh with regret: "My cousin came to stay with me from our hometown a while ago, but I couldn't find him a job in the city. He's now at a branch farm, and I don't know if they'll release him there."
Dai Shuhua said, "The regiment won't release people easily. You should go and ask. It's a pity they don't recruit women, otherwise I could recommend my sister."
Everyone has relatives and friends. When we're hiring for the new office, all the positions are filled by relatives of existing staff.
Song Lubai had no one to recommend her to, so she remained completely unmoved.
