Chapter 19 Buying and Selling

Chapter 19 Buying and Selling

Director Wang sent Song Lubai out for three days in a row.

Song Lubai had no time to write anything during the day, and when Director Wang assigned her tasks, she had no reason to refuse.

Because everyone in the neighborhood office is very busy.

The area has several thousand people. There aren't many big events every day, but there are always small things to deal with. The neighborhood office is always dealing with those trivial matters.

I worked at home for three days straight, my eyes were bloodshot, but I finally finished the task.

The next day, upon arriving at the office, without Director Wang needing to say anything, Song Lubai yawned and placed the notebook she was holding on Director Wang's desk.

Secretary Chen passed by carrying a teacup and said with a smile, "Still sleepy so early in the morning? The day's work begins in the morning, you can't do it like this."

Without thinking, Song Lubai said, "I stayed up all night writing. There's been a lot going on in our area lately, so I can't write in the office during the day. I have to take it home."

She didn't explicitly mention Director Wang, but everyone knew what she meant.

Song Lubai means exactly that.

She did it on purpose.

Why can't we express our dissatisfaction when we're being targeted?

Everyone else is out on fieldwork, so why does she get extra work? Others don't have to go back and work all night. She's done so much; she can't just do it quietly.

After saying that, she asked Director Wang in a normal and positive manner, "Director, can you take a look and see if there are any problems? If there are any mistakes, I will go back and revise them. This is the first job you gave me, and I must complete the task perfectly."

Song Lubai's words were so impeccable that it made people wonder if they had been being petty before.

Secretary Chen glanced at her again and thought that this girl was quite cunning and very shrewd.

Director Wang wanted to find fault, but couldn't.

Upon opening it, the inner pages are neat and clean, with legible and beautiful handwriting that could be used on a bulletin board. There are no errors in the format and almost no typos.

It's a feast for the eyes at first glance.

Secretary Chen glanced at it casually before fixing his gaze on the notebook. "Wow, I didn't realize you had such beautiful handwriting, Xiao Song."

Secretary Chen picked up the notebook and flipped through it. The handwriting on each page was neat and tidy, with no sloppy parts. It was clear that he had written it with care.

"Good, good. From now on, you'll be in charge of the monthly summary work, and you can also participate in the bulletin board work."

Song Lubai showed no sign of reluctance and replied loudly and enthusiastically, "Okay, Secretary, just make the arrangements, I will definitely do my best."

The Party Secretary gave a half-smile: "Aren't you afraid of staying up all night?"

Song Lubai smiled and waved her hand: "Staying up all night is nothing. I'm a household registration officer, this is my job. Everyone in our office is busy. I'll do as much as I can. Compared to working three shifts in the factory, our job is relatively easy."

She shamelessly labeled herself as capable.

Her first job was in an office. An older colleague once taught her that she should be proactive in her work. In addition to being proactive, she should also promote herself in front of the leaders, because good opportunities often go to people like her.

Everyone does the same job, and the tasks are roughly the same. What makes you think you can get promoted? It all comes down to your performance over the years.

Secretary Chen nodded, "That's right. Young people who are capable should do more. It's always good to get some experience."

He put down his notebook and said to Director Wang, "This time, the person who came is capable. It's true that you have to find someone who is educated; the mindset of someone who has been to school is different."

Director Wang did not agree.

Because she suspected that Secretary Chen was subtly criticizing her daughter.

Although her daughter only graduated from junior high school, she is still considered educated and her ideological awareness is certainly sufficient.

Director Wang put the notebook into the drawer and said to Song Lubai with a cold expression, "Alright, it's fine now, you can go."

She needs to find Song Lubai something else to do. She's capable, so let her do it well.

According to the schedule, Song Lubai is on patrol today, another day away from the office.

The purpose of patrolling the streets is to maintain street security. Once they find suspicious people, they have to go up and question them, and find out all the information about the suspicious people.

Today's street patrol was quite easy, since there was no unfinished work to worry about.

A few days later, she had become quite familiar with Xiao Yan.

The six of them patrolled the streets, dividing themselves into groups of two. Today, she and Xiao Yan were in the same group again.

The line at the department store across the street was very long; if it weren't for working hours, Song Lubai would have wanted to join the queue.

I overheard people in line saying that a new batch of canned goods and brown sugar arrived today.

Canned goods and brown sugar are in high demand and can't be found all the time.

"Have you heard? Shen Lingyu reported her father-in-law to the police for human trafficking."

Upon first hearing the name Shen Lingyu, Song Lubai was taken aback.

"Human trafficking? Her father-in-law bought a child? Just because he doesn't have a grandson? He's got some nerve."

Xiao Yan quickly interrupted her, "No, no, it's not what you think."

She lowered her voice and said, "I heard it from Pei Haozhi, who was transferred to the police station yesterday. A man surnamed Zhao went to the police station yesterday and took the police directly to the hospital. Shen Lingyu said it herself. Her family is forcing her to divorce and then go with Yu Dali. Yu Dali has five children, and all five children have lost their mother. Since Shen Lingyu can't have children, they want her to become the stepmother of Yu Dali's children. In order to buy Shen Lingyu away, Yu Dali gave the Hu family thirty yuan. Even after they gave the money, Shen Lingyu refused and was beaten so badly that she couldn't get up. If we hadn't taken her to the hospital that day, she would have been sent away that night."

Xiao Yan sighed, "It's a good thing you insisted that day, otherwise Shen Lingyu would have been finished."

Song Lubai thought she was hallucinating.

I never imagined such things still existed in the new society.

"Shen Lingyu is not the property of the Hu family, so why should the Hu family sell her to someone else?"

Xiao Yan snorted, "That courtyard is still Shen Lingyu's ancestral property. She lived like a wretch in her own home and was even sold off. Who can she complain to? Some things are beyond reason."

This is why Song Lubai enjoys associating with Xiao Yan.

She wouldn't discriminate against Shen Lingyu just because she was originally a capitalist's daughter.

She believes that all people are the same, only men and women are different, and that one should not look at people with different eyes just because they are categorized.

However, most people, using their so-called correctness, take those people for granted and despise them, humiliating them with words and actions.

When ordinary people are bullied, people will sympathize with them. But when people like Shen Lingyu are bullied, most people think it's only natural. When she was being bullied to the point of death, even ignoring her became a sin for Song Lubai.

"Were Old Hu and his family arrested?"

Xiao Yan shook her head. "Pei Haozhi said it's difficult. Everything is just her side of the story. The Hu family doesn't admit it, and the police have no evidence. What are they supposed to arrest?"

Song Lubai felt a chill run down her spine. "So that's how it is?"

Xiao Yan sighed, "Thanks to this incident, Shen Lingyu won't be sold to the countryside, which is a good thing..."
