Chapter 218 Visit

Chapter 218 Visit

That evening, Wei Yang returned carrying a lot of things.

I bought a box of braised pork, a box of stewed chicken with potatoes, and a braised fish from a state-run store.

He also bought a small amount of rice, millet, and flour of grade C from the department store.

Although some units were in disarray, state-run restaurants and department stores were still operating.

He made a special trip to the department store and found that the store had very few types of goods on display, and many items were out of stock.

Especially regarding grain, it wasn't that he was unwilling to buy it, but rather that the supply was simply too scarce.

"Auntie, if you're not coming with us, you should make some more preparations."

Seeing that Wei Yang had brought back so many things, Zhang Cui was about to say that he had spent too much money, but when she heard his question, she paused and asked, "What are you preparing?"

Wei Yang said, "If you have relatives in the countryside, go and exchange them for some grain. The supplies in the stores may not be enough in the future, and we can't say for sure what will happen then."

Zhang Cui suddenly realized and nodded, saying, "We should make more preparations. I'll go to the countryside to take a look tomorrow."

Wei Yang said, "I'll go with you. I'll only leave when everything is settled on your end."

Zhang Cui felt incredibly warm inside, and the more she looked at Wei Yang, the more satisfied she became.

The most important thing for a man is to be responsible. The man her daughter found can definitely take care of things at home.

"Xiao Wei, I'm not some clueless young man. You don't need to do everything for me. I can manage on my own."

Wei Zhao said, "Auntie, a son-in-law is like half a son. If you accept Wei Yang as your future son-in-law, then let him help you with the work. It's what he should do."

Wei Yang felt that his third sister was still somewhat useful; she always managed to say things that resonated with him.

Zhang Cui said with a smile, "Of course I'll accept it! I couldn't be more satisfied with Xiao Wei."

The twins, who had been eagerly waiting, asked, "Mom, can we eat now?"

Zhang Cui glared at them, annoyed that these two only cared about food. Compared to Wei Zhao's three children, her two boys were like mischievous, playful monkeys who loved to eat.

Wei Yang laughed and said, "Eat quickly, the fish won't taste good if it gets cold."

Zhang Cui steamed a big pot of sweet potato and millet rice today, and the millet was borrowed. She also borrowed a plate of fried eggs.

Things are in complete chaos lately; it's even hard to borrow food.

That damned Lu Jianxi, when will this bastard finally die?

"Xiao Wei, this trip cost a lot of money. You'll have many more expenses in the future, so don't waste money here with your aunt..."

When Zhang Cui was speaking, she saw Wei Yang suddenly stand up and stopped talking.

Wei Yang was sitting facing the window. When he saw a dark shadow moving around in front of the window, he immediately got up and opened the door.

Lu Jianxi, who was peeking inside, was caught red-handed. He immediately straightened up, put on a fearless expression, walked to the door, and met Wei Yang's gaze with his chest out.

Upon seeing the people outside, Zhang Cui's eyes immediately filled with disgust, wariness, and fear.

Lu Jianxi, with his thick skin, greeted her, "Auntie, are you eating?"

Seeing that Lu Jianxi had come alone today, Zhang Cui felt somewhat relieved.

What are you doing here?

Lu Jianxi came to check on Zhang Cui's family situation, mainly to see if Wei Yang had left.

Wei Yang said with a warning look in his eyes, "Did you ignore what I said yesterday?"

Lu Jianxi smiled and raised his hands, "I'm not here to do anything today, I just want to say a few words to Auntie."

He looked at Wei Yang with a provocative expression: "Comrade, don't be nervous. I'll leave as soon as I'm done talking. I won't delay your meal."

Zhang Cui knew he wouldn't say anything nice, but she never expected to hear such disgusting things.

“Auntie, do you know, I kindly took in Uncle a while ago, but he ended up sleeping with my wife. Now my wife has run away. Yesterday he came back to beg me, and I'm a soft-hearted person, so I took him in again. He said I'm the most promising descendant of the Lin family.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Zhang Cui's expression changed, and Wei Zhao's expression changed as well.

The meat the twins hadn't even swallowed yet didn't taste good anymore.

Wei Yang walked up to Lu Jianxi, looking down at him with a threatening gaze and asked, "Are you leaving or not?"

Knowing he couldn't out-fight him, Lu Jianxi grinned and said, "I'll be leaving right away."

As he turned around, he gave Wei Zhao a sidelong glance and asked with a grin, "Auntie, is this your daughter?"

Doesn't it look a bit like that? Wasn't Zhang Cui's daughter supposed to be only twenty?

Wei Zhao squinted at Lu Jianxi, her expression mirroring Wei Yang's squinting.

"Your eyes are glued to your great-aunt's face."

Wei Yang raised his fist, while Lu Jianxi grinned and ran towards the stairwell with his heart pounding.

Wei Yang followed behind at a leisurely pace.

When they reached the outside of the tenement building, Lu Jianxi saw that he was still following him. His heart skipped a beat, the smile on his face finally disappeared, and he started running like the wind.

Wei Yang stood there staring at his retreating figure, without chasing after him.

If murder were not illegal, Lu Jianxi would have died at his hands several times over.

Upstairs, Zhang Cui was so disgusted that she couldn't eat.

She couldn't understand how Lin Dahai could be that kind of person.

The twins also couldn't eat.

Their dad actually said that the scoundrel is the most promising person in the Lin family, while Lu Jianxi is clearly a big bad guy! Is Dad crazy? Dad has already been beaten by that scoundrel, why would he want to go back to find him?

I just can't understand it. I just can't figure out twins.

Wei Zhao felt uneasy under Lu Jianxi's gaze; his lips were pursed, and his mood was clearly not good.

After Wei Yang went upstairs, he noticed the awkward atmosphere in the room and said with a smile, "Auntie, don't let him ruin our good mood. If you're unhappy, he'll be happy."

Zhang Cui nodded, agreeing with him, but her expression remained worried.

Wei Zhao urged again, "Auntie, come with us. Your daughter definitely wants you to take them with you. You saw it yourself, that person won't let this go."

The twins looked up and said, "Mom, let's go find our sister together."

Zhang Cui said, "If we go, we'll only be a burden to your sister. What can I do there?"

Just as Wei Yang was about to say that he could find her a job, Zhang Cui said, "Xiao Wei, this job was given to me by the government as compensation after Lu Bai's biological father passed away. How can I just give it up? If I go over there, I'll only cause you more trouble. My whole family depends on you to make a living. Will Lu Bai be able to hold her head high in front of you?"

Wei Yang said, "Once Lu Bai and I get married, we're family. My salary is enough to support the whole family. You're her mother, so you'll be my mother too. Her brother is my brother. It's only right that I take care of you. I'll definitely find you a job. You don't need to rely on me for a living. There's no question of whether Lu Bai can hold her head high at home. Auntie, don't be so stubborn. There's nothing wrong with that place. You can still settle down there."

Wei Yang probably understood Zhang Cui's concerns.

The older generation is reluctant to leave the place where they grew up, partly because of their attachment to it and partly because of their fear and anxiety about the unknown future. They can only sleep soundly at night in familiar surroundings, all because of habit and fear of change.
