Chapter 230 Meeting the Parents
Upon hearing Feng Li's reason, Qin Zhi said, "Bring us her article to take a look."
Feng Li looked troubled and sought Lou Yuchun's opinion with his eyes.
Lou Yuchun retorted angrily, "Why are you always staring at me? Were you the one who went over there to call people yesterday?"
Feng Li finally understood the situation and, sweating profusely, went to get the newspaper containing Song Lubai's article.
Qin Zhi looked at the journal and said, "This is from last year, is there a problem?"
Wei Mingyuan took the newspaper, read it, and asked incredulously, "You're telling me this is considered a mistake?"
Have these people gone mad?
Feng Li was sweating nervously. Seeing this, he swallowed back the matter of Song Lubai's relative reselling cotton.
"It's still an investigation, and the nature of the case hasn't been determined yet."
Wei Mingyuan tapped his fingers on the table. "Are you going to bring him back to me, or should I go to the authorities to demand him?"
Lou Yuchun said, "He handled this matter, so let him go and ask for the person."
Qin Zhi said, "I'm afraid it will be difficult for you to get things done, so let our people go with you."
Qin Zhi looked at Lao Cheng.
Old Cheng didn't want to go; they were responsible for the safety of Wei Mingyuan and his wife, and it was best to keep them close at all times while they were out.
Qin Zhi said, "You go by yourself. Let them keep watch outside. We'll wait here. Go quickly and come back quickly. Nothing will happen to us."
That was the only option; Lao Cheng went with Feng Li.
Feng Li couldn't figure out the background of Qin Zhi and the others, but he could tell that Lou Yuchun was very polite to them, so he could only obediently take Lao Cheng to negotiate.
When they arrived at the accounting training team, Liu Hui looked at the work permit provided by Lao Cheng, but still didn't want to let him go easily, so he used the work process to pressure him.
Old Cheng, not minding the trouble, rushed to the government office and met the secretary with his work ID.
After understanding the situation, the Party Secretary sent Chen Weiliang to take Lao Cheng to release the people.
When Liu Hui saw Chen Weiliang and Lao Cheng again, he was unwilling but had no choice but to have someone bring Song Lubai out.
When the door opened, Song Lubai was slumped against the wall.
She didn't sleep all night; even with her eyes closed, she felt uneasy, fearing that the door would suddenly open and someone would pull her out.
She had considered all sorts of scenarios, but she couldn't figure out how to escape; her mind was filled with worst-case scenarios.
As dawn broke, I felt a little more at ease, but only a little.
"Song Lubai, come out."
Song Lubai nervously went out the door and asked, "Are we going to ask them questions?"
The person who came said, "You can leave now."
At the kindergarten gate, Song Lubai met Chen Weiliang and Lao Cheng, whom she did not recognize.
Chen Weiliang said, "Your partner's parents are waiting for you at your workplace. Go back quickly."
Song Lubai: "...?"
Wei Yang's parents?
"Thank you very much this time. I will visit you again another day to express my gratitude."
Chen Weiliang smiled and said, "No need for that. We're from the same hometown, so there's no need to be so polite. You've helped me before too."
Regardless, Song Lubai decided to see Chen Weiliang one more time. He might be in power for the next few years, but once that's over, his good days might be over. She had to remind him to get out of there in time.
Seeing her disheveled state, Song Lubai said to Lao Cheng beside her, "I want to go to the dormitory to tidy up. It'll be quick."
Old Cheng nodded, "Okay, I'll go find them first."
The abrasions on her legs had scabbed over, and after cleaning off the stains, she changed into green military pants and a white shirt.
Her pants were torn and needed to be patched before she could continue wearing them.
That was the only pair of unpatched pants she had brought from her hometown, and now it was ruined.
She felt incredibly regretful, but quickly washed up, combed her hair neatly, and braided it into a plait.
Only after the overall appearance was clean and tidy did she run towards the department.
I've heard Wei Yang say that his parents are both highly educated intellectuals who work in a highly confidential unit. I don't know if they came with Wei Yang.
Back at the department, she saw a group of people standing in the courtyard, including Old Cheng, whom she had met before.
She stepped forward and curiously looked at the only middle-aged woman in the crowd, politely calling her "Auntie".
Qin Zhi asked with concern, "Have you been wronged? Why are you so thin?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Song Lubai's stomach rumbled.
After a day and a night of fear and anxiety, Song Lubai felt warm inside after receiving such care, even though it was the first time she had ever seen it.
Song Lubai said awkwardly, "I didn't eat enough yesterday, I'm a little hungry. Auntie, let me treat you to a meal in the cafeteria."
Qin Zhi immediately said, "Come on, Auntie will take you to a restaurant to eat."
Song Lubai had a clean and pure appearance, and Qin Zhi liked her at first sight.
When they arrived at the restaurant, she generously ordered quite a few dishes.
Song Lubai said from the side, "That's enough."
Qin Zhi smiled at her and said, "There are many of us, so we can definitely finish what we ordered. There's no need to worry about wasting food."
There weren't many people in the restaurant at the moment, so the group split into two tables, with Song Lubai and Wei Yang's parents sitting at one table.
Wei Mingyuan didn't say much. After Song Lubai poured tea for the two of them, she stood up and thanked them.
If it weren't for them, she doesn't know how many more days she would have been locked up.
Qin Zhi pulled her hand and made her sit down next to her, patted her hand and said, "You must have been scared. Don't be afraid, it's all over now."
As she spoke, Qin Zhi took out a red brocade box from her bag and pushed it in front of Song Lubai.
"This is for you. We probably won't be able to attend your wedding with Wei Yang, so keep this and wear it when the time is right."
Wei Mingyuan, who had been mostly silent, pulled a bulging envelope from his pocket and said firmly, "Take this. Use it to buy household items after you get married."
The money inside was prepared by Qin Zhi. She was afraid that Wei Mingyuan's aloofness would make Song Lubai feel that he was difficult to get along with, so she entrusted this task to Wei Mingyuan. Who would have thought that he would act like this even when he was given money, making it seem like he was not doing it willingly.
Seeing Song Lubai hesitate, Qin Zhi directly stuffed the envelope into Song Lubai's hand.
"Take this. We don't know when we'll see each other again. This money is for your family. We can't help you much in the future, so we'll feel at ease if you accept this money."
Since things had come to this point, Song Lubai had no choice but to accept it.
"You know how to get to the Sixth Division, right? After we finish eating, you can come with us to find Wei Yang. He should be back by now."
Song Lubai didn't think Wei Yang had returned. If Wei Yang had returned, he would definitely have come to find her after arriving in Shicheng.
She shared her guess, and then she heard Wei Yang's father say to Qin Zhi, "Let's go after we finish eating."
Song Lubai asked, "Do you have any urgent work? Am I taking up your time?"
Fearing that Wei Mingyuan might say something he shouldn't, Qin Zhi quickly said, "There was work, but it wasn't because of you. The car broke down on the road yesterday, otherwise we would have arrived yesterday. We still need to go and check on Wei Yang, just in case he comes back."
This time she came, but she didn't see her son, and Qin Zhi was unwilling to give up.
