Chapter 3 First

Chapter 3 First

Song Lubai couldn't resist causing trouble for Liu Mei while she was hospitalized.

The main problem is that Liu Mei used to do a lot of things that upset her mother.

Some people have a silver tongue and speak in a gentle and persuasive manner, but all they want to do is take advantage of others, like Liu Mei.

Seeing her expression, Song Lubai feigned surprise and asked, "What's wrong, sister-in-law?"

Liu Mei shook her head to cover up her embarrassment. Before she could speak, the woman in the opposite bed said, "My daughter learned to do housework at a very young age. Back in the countryside, she could feed pigs, light fires, wash clothes, cook, and do everything. Sister, your daughter is lucky. No, city kids are lucky. Unlike us back then, we had to do all the chores from a young age."

Liu Mei could only smile and agree, while Song Lubai sat silently to the side.

At this moment, she was thinking about a question: why did she hate Liu Mei so much, but like Liu Mei's child, Lin Jinyao, so much?

This shouldn't be happening.

The ward was full of women. Liu Mei was drinking chicken noodle soup while talking to the other women.

Liu Mei drank chicken soup for several days after being hospitalized, and everyone in the ward was envious.

Someone smacked their lips and said, "Young lady, your family treats you really well. They bring you chicken soup every day. They're so thoughtful."

Liu Mei smiled and said, "These chickens were gathered by my mother from the village. What mother wouldn't love her own daughter?"

Song Lubai was unwilling to let the other party erase her mother's contributions all at once, so she interjected, "Sister-in-law, you've suffered a lot this time. My mother has been thinking about how to make you more nutritious these past few days, making chicken soup every day. The two brothers are so tempted by the smell of the chicken soup, but my mother hasn't let them have a single bite. She's only thinking about your health and hopes you recover soon."

Lin Jinyao nodded like a chick pecking at rice, "Second Uncle and Little Uncle are so tempted, their mouths are watering just from the smell. I'm tempted too, but Grandma says it's for your health, so we can only watch."

As she spoke, she smacked her lips and glanced at the chicken soup.

Liu Mei scooped a spoonful for Lin Jinyao and said with a smile, "I know your mother is good to me, and Lu Bai, you are good too. I'm lucky to have married into the Lin family, and I haven't suffered much these past years."

Everyone in the ward was puzzled. Why did Liu Mei say "your mom" instead of simply calling her "Mom"?

However, since we weren't familiar with each other, it was impossible to ask for more details.

Song Lubai sat gracefully on the hospital bed, making the ward seem brighter.

An aunt looked Song Lubai up and down, and the more she looked, the more she felt that this girl looked impressive and must be a city dweller who grew up in the city.

"Girl, what do you do every day? You look like you've been to school, what kind of job do you have now?"

Song Lubai was very familiar with that look.

When the older women in the tenement building wanted to arrange a marriage for her, they would look her up and down like this.

Song Lubai replied with a smile: "Yes, I went to school. I just graduated from high school and I haven't found a job yet."

It's not that she's unemployed, but rather that she quit her previous good job for some reason.

Thinking back to last year's college entrance examination, she couldn't help but feel resentful.

She hated herself for being so weak; her body just had to give in that day.

There are far more girls in the city who go to school than girls in the countryside, so the old lady in the ward wasn't too surprised when she heard that she had graduated from high school.

"Don't rush into a job. You're still young, you can find one slowly. You're probably eighteen or nineteen now, it's time to find a boyfriend. I have a nephew who works at a department store. I think you two are a good age, and my nephew is handsome too. You young people will definitely have a lot to talk about. Why don't you meet him sometime? I liked a girl like you at first sight..."

Logically speaking, one shouldn't introduce potential partners to someone without considering anything else, especially in front of their daughter.

But after the woman had been living here for two days, she had gotten to know her roughly. Song Lubai was from the city, both of her parents worked, she was pretty, and she had gone to school. She brought Liu Mei meals every day and was an obedient and sensible person.

Her nephew from her maternal family only likes pretty girls. He's been on countless dates but hasn't been satisfied with any of them. She's willing to bet that if her nephew meets this girl, he'll definitely be interested and will even be eager to pursue her!

Li Qiuhong looked at Song Lubai with fervent eyes.

After having that dream, Song Lubai felt no shame when others introduced her to potential partners in front of her.

I still feel a little uncomfortable.

Liu Mei spoke up before she could, saying, "Aunt Li, what kind of job does your nephew do at the department store? How old is he? Has he gone to school? If he's really suitable, it wouldn't be bad to let the young people get to know him."

Sister Li got really into it.

If others are willing to ask, it means they have something on their mind.

“My nephew is 21 years old and works as a purchasing agent for a department store. That department store is right across from Dongfeng Photo Studio. If you go to that department store, you can often see a truck parked at the entrance. My nephew often drives the truck around.”

Sister Li beamed with pride when she talked about her nephew, which inevitably drew envy from the other women in the ward.

Who wouldn't be envious?

He's a purchasing agent and a truck driver, how amazing!

This kind of good job isn't something everyone can do.

If you want to learn driving skills, you simply can't do it without connections.

Liu Mei felt a little jealous, but she didn't show it on her face. She chatted warmly with Sister Li, asking about the situation, and occasionally praising Song Lubai.

Song Lubai perked up when she heard the three keywords "Li Guangming" from Sister Li.

"Auntie, your nephew's name is Li Guangming?"

Sister Li looked at her and asked, "What's wrong? Do you know her?"

Song Lubai shook her head, "I don't know him. He was a boy named Wang Guangming in our class."

Sister Li smiled dismissively and continued talking to Liu Mei.

However, at this moment, Song Lubai's heart was already in turmoil.

Because in the dream she had, her first fiancé, who was "cursed to death," was named Li Guangming.

It seems that Li Guangming died in a car accident.

In addition to what Aunt Li just said, Li Guangming drives a truck…

A fine, tingling sensation spread across my entire body, causing goosebumps to appear.

Was that dream really just a dream?

After Aunt Li and Liu Mei finished their conversation, Song Lubai got up and put away the lunchbox on the table.

Liu Mei thoughtfully said, "Don't come to deliver lunch. I'll heat up the food you brought for your brother with hot water so you don't have to make another trip."

Song Lubai was relieved and nodded, saying, "Then I'll come again this afternoon."

Liu Mei still refused: "Don't bother. Your older brother will come after get off work this afternoon. He will bring me food. It's too much trouble for you to come every day."

Song Lubai was surprised.

Liu Mei hasn't been this considerate during her hospital stay.

A few days ago, Liu Mei was really keen on having Lin Jinyao bring her over. Every day she would ask Lin Jinyao what she ate and did at home, afraid that her family would bully her daughter.

Today is really weird.

But who cares?

Lin Jinyao looked at her little brother, who was sleeping soundly in his swaddling clothes with a rosy complexion, and smiled, revealing his white teeth. "Mom, we'll come see you again tomorrow."

Liu Mei responded and instructed, "Be good and don't make Grandpa and Grandma angry."

After watching the two leave, Liu Mei's gaze towards Aunt Li became even more ardent.
