Chapter 35 Zhang Cui, the one who stirred things up
Zhang Cui shared a bed with Lin Dahai.
Zhang Cui knew exactly what Lin Dahai did each day.
Zhang Cui originally felt that this matter had nothing to do with Lin Dahai, and that what she said just now was intentional.
Both of them were in their second marriages and had lived together for almost ten years. Zhang Cui now understood best that for every step she took forward, Lin Dahai had to take a step back.
The couple's relationship was stable, but the east wind was prevailing over the west wind. Under her sister Zhang Lan's tutelage for so many years, Zhang Cui now only wanted to be the east wind.
When the east wind blows, one suffers less abuse and enjoys a higher status within the family!
Zhang Cui sat on the bench with her arms crossed, glancing sideways at Lin Dahai. "You think it has nothing to do with you? Tell me, isn't this shameful? What will people think of our family if word gets out? How will we look at each other after this scandal breaks? I can believe you if you say you didn't know, but what about your son? Lin Shuhong and Liu Mei are family. Doesn't he know what Liu Mei is planning?"
"Your son is something else! He's using my daughter as a raft to help Liu Mei's family get benefits! What, do I owe your Lin family something?!"
"Liu Mei did something inhuman; she's completely disgraced us. I don't care, your son and his family can forget about ever setting foot in my house again!"
“Let me tell you, Lin Dahai, if you’re not happy, then go live with your eldest son. My family doesn’t have relatives like them! And I can’t afford a son like that! This house was originally allocated to me by my work unit, so you can decide for yourself.”
Lin Dahai's face was as long as a donkey's. "Why are you getting angry at me? It wasn't me who did it."
Zhang Cui: "I got angry at the person passing by the door! Why should they put up with it?"
"I don't care what Liu Mei did. What she did was a crime. I don't want relatives like that. They're shameful!"
Lin Dahai slammed his hand on the table. "I'm going to find Shuhong tomorrow."
Zhang Cui glanced sideways, "What do you want with him?"
Lin Dahai: "Let him get a divorce. I can't afford to have a daughter-in-law as disgraceful as Liu Mei!"
Zhang Cui's lips curved into a smile, then she quickly looked away, "What if she doesn't leave?"
Lin Dahai declared firmly, "Then I will sever all ties with Shuhong!"
Zhang Cui sneered, "You have to keep your word, otherwise it's just empty talk!"
Lying inside the room, Song Lubai had no idea what her mother was trying to do.
If Lin Shuhong were to get a divorce, Liu Mei would definitely be the one who suffers.
Thinking of this, Song Lubai sat up.
Her mom is so smart.
Lin Shuhong is Lin Dahai's biological son. No matter what, blood is thicker than water, so it's impossible for the two of them to sever their relationship.
By forcing the couple to divorce, both of them will suffer, and this is a form of revenge against them!
If Lin Shuhong were to complain about Lin Dahai, the relationship between the father and son would only worsen.
After being scolded and thinking about the shameful things Liu Mei had done, Lin Dahai lost his appetite and slammed the door shut as he left.
Song Lubai peeked out and whispered, "Mom, if Lin Shuhong doesn't want a divorce, won't he blame her?"
Zhang Cui snorted, "Let him complain if he wants, what does it have to do with me? He doesn't even call me 'Mom'. It's none of your business. Come out and eat."
The anger in her mother's eyes had long since disappeared, and the corners of her mouth were even slightly upturned.
Song Lubai felt that her mother was in a good mood at the moment.
She doesn't understand; she really doesn't.
The three-day holiday flew by, and Song Lu was busy with Li Guangming's affairs. When she went to work at the street office again, she was still a little dazed.
Early in the morning, Xiao Yan yawned and approached her, whispering, "The Hu family has been causing trouble again these past two days."
"What's all the fuss about?"
Has Shen Lingyu started to take action?
Xiao Yan's voice carried a hint of amusement. "The elderly couple from the Hu family and Hu Xiaoqing were beaten. Hu Xiaoqing's mother had a big bump on her face, her face was swollen. They said that Shen Lingyu beat them up in the middle of the night and ran away afterward. They even reported it to the police station, but the police station said it was a family matter and they couldn't interfere. Since the police station wouldn't do anything, the Hu family came to the neighborhood committee."
"But what can we do? All we can do is advise them to be nicer to Shen Lingyu, treat her well, and then she'll stop making a fuss, right?"
Song Lubai burst out laughing.
The police officers at the local station had a brilliant response.
Shen Lingyu finally got her revenge.
Taking advantage of the quiet of the night when everyone is most asleep to beat someone up and run away without any risk whatsoever—that's incredibly clever.
But where did she go after hitting someone in the middle of the night?
Why didn't you go to her house to look for her?
As the two were whispering, Director Wang entered the room.
Song Lubai's gaze met hers directly, and the other woman's eyes swept across her face and then immediately moved away, as if she had seen something dirty.
Song Lubai scoffed inwardly.
Did you think that giving her a hard time would scare her or something?
Secretary Chen came out with a newspaper. "Xiao Song, you and Lao Zhang can take some time to finish the bulletin board. Get it done in the next few days. The theme is in the newspaper. Your handwriting is not bad. You and Lao Zhang can help to improve the layout."
Song Lubai responded and took the newspaper. After reading it, she said, "The Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps is recruiting. What's it like there? Does anyone have relatives there? My sister wants to sign up."
Old Zhang shook his head and said, "Fragrant fruits, fat cattle and sheep, vast territory, XJ is a great place!"
After Lao Zhang finished singing, others in the office started singing, and the tune was similar to what Chang Zhenzhen sang, with the same lyrics.
"Isn't the movie 'The Song of the Army Reclamation' showing recently? My dad's workplace has shown it for free several times. It made me feel excited and want to go out and explore the world."
Everyone was discussing the movie that Song Lubai hadn't seen yet, which made Song Lubai very eager to see it too.
Director Wang joined the group chat, saying, "The photos look great, but we'll be dumbfounded when we actually get there. Farmers in the countryside of our province are still starving. Xinjiang province is huge; if they could feed themselves, would they be hiring? Have you ever heard of cities or provincial capitals hiring? The better the place, the less people they need. It's the poorest, most desolate places that will try to bring people from other places."
After Director Wang finished speaking, the office fell silent for a moment.
In those days, news was scarce, and most people got their news from the outside world through the radio.
Many other sources of information are people's personal experiences and word of mouth.
The people who remain in Xinjiang Province now are all Chinese sons and daughters from all over the country. Which good son or daughter doesn't have relatives, family and friends?
It's not that no one in the office knows that Xinjiang is currently facing a tough construction project, but why doesn't anyone say it?
Because nobody's stupid.
Working hard in your own position is contributing to the country, but now the country needs more people to go to the border areas for development. As ordinary citizens, you may not have this awareness, but you can at least not hold back, right?
While Director Wang's words, brimming with a sense of superiority and pontificating, had some merit, they shouldn't have been uttered so openly.
Even someone like Song Lubai, who doesn't have much work experience, understands this principle.
After a moment, Secretary Chen spoke up: "Sitting in the office all day means you can't see the outside world! Xinjiang Province is a vast territory and an important part of our country. The country needs people to carry out construction. If everyone is afraid of hardship, how can we develop? Some people have lost their fighting spirit from sitting in the office and even tried to undermine morale. Their awareness is really low."
