Chapter 442 Investigation

Chapter 442 Investigation

It's sandstorm season again. Dust particles are floating around in the air, making the sky look gloomy, and you can smell the earth in your breath.

Song Lubai disliked this dry and dusty weather, but unfortunately, there were very few sunny days from the beginning of spring to the start of summer.

When it was time for her to leave work and was about to pick up her child from school, Balang Turuhong, who lived near the sheepfold, excitedly ran over.

His Mandarin wasn't very standard, but Song Lubai's Uyghur had improved a little, and he understood what Song Lubai was gesturing about.

It turned out that several ewes in the flock were in heat.

This means that soon, the ewes in the sheepfold will give birth to lambs.

This is indeed good news.

In the near future, the sheep in the production and construction corps will be able to produce milk!

She planned to go check on the sheepfold that afternoon.

She took her child home and found two strangers, a man and a woman, standing at her door.

"Who are you...?"

Their attire clearly indicated that they were people with respectable and respectable jobs.

"Comrade Song, because someone reported issues concerning you and Secretary Wei to higher authorities, we came down from the division headquarters to investigate. Wei Yang is currently being questioned. If it's convenient, please open the door. According to regulations, we'll ask some questions and then leave."

Song Lubai said to her two daughters, "You two go to the cafeteria to eat first, and I'll come pick you up when I'm done here."

The two sisters were very sensitive, their little faces tense up. Song Lubai patted them and said with a smile, "It's okay, it's nothing, your parents didn't do anything wrong."

After the two sisters left, Song Lubai said, "I need to see your work certificates."

Seeing that she was neither humble nor arrogant, the two men became a little more polite than before.

After checking their work IDs and confirming their identities, she opened the door, went inside, and poured them some water.

Everything inside was on full display. The two men looked them over, and the woman spoke first, asking, "I heard you have a wool coat, a red one at that. I've never seen a red wool coat before. Can I take a look?"

Song Lubai showed no sign of distress, and said with a faint smile, "That dress is expensive, and it's too dusty and hot to wear this time of year, so I can't bear to take it out and wear it."

As she spoke, she opened the cabinet, revealing the clothes displayed inside.

The red wool coat was very eye-catching, and the black puffer jacket was equally striking.

Song Lubai was unhappy, but she cooperated on the surface and let the two of them tour her wardrobe.

The wardrobe is old, but some of the clothes inside are quite nice.

The woman said, "These two outfits must have cost a lot of money."

Song Lubai lowered the price of the clothes, but for others, the price was still quite expensive. She added, "The red dress I wore when I married Wei Yang was borrowed. These two dresses were bought last year when we went to the capital to visit relatives. We hadn't come to the 18th Regiment yet. I don't understand why you're looking at my wardrobe."

The man said, "Don't be resistant. We're just investigating after receiving the letter. If you're innocent, we'll clear your name."

Song Lubai said, "Every single account in the business office is meticulously recorded, and we haven't touched a single penny. You can check the accounts, so what do you think is the problem?"

The woman and the man exchanged a glance, and she carefully chose her words, saying, "Why don't you just tell us where the money for those clothes came from?"

Song Lubai was speechless. "You know how much Wei Yang earns each month. Add me to that, and our combined monthly salaries can last for several months. We can save a lot of money every month. If we didn't have enough receipts, we could afford to buy a few more items. In addition, before Wei Yang and I got married, my parents-in-law gave us a sum of money. Perhaps out of a sense of compensation, my parents-in-law gave us a considerable amount of savings."

The two were puzzled. "Compensation? Compensation for what?"

Song Lubai said, "My parents didn't come when Wei Yang and I got married. Because of their work, we haven't seen them in the past few years. You should ask your superiors about their professions."

The two exchanged another glance, a guess forming in their minds.

Song Lubai said, "All of my family's assets were acquired legally and compliantly. Do you want to go to the office and check the accounts?"

The man said, "Someone will check the accounts, so could you let us see the bankbook?"

Song Lubai remained silent for a long time.

"Comrades, it's not that I don't trust you, it's that I can't guarantee what will happen next."

There wasn't a single fool in the room; these words made even the men's expressions change.

He was getting a little exasperated. "Who do you think would have greedy thoughts?"

Song Lubai said, "If anyone comes to my house to steal things in the future, and the bankbook is lost, you will be responsible."

As she spoke, she stood up and asked the two of them to leave first, then took out her bankbook.

The man went out the door, stood with his hands on his hips, and muttered curses under his breath.

Upon hearing this, Song Lubai raised her voice and said, "Comrade, you haven't done anything, yet you're being investigated for your bank account and having your family's assets exposed just because of a few words from others. Would you be happy about that?"

The man argued confidently, "We're just following instructions. If you want to prove your innocence, you have to go through these procedures..."

The man was about to continue speaking when the woman tugged at his sleeve and said, "Comrade Song, it's normal to have resistance. We understand you, and we hope you can understand us too. We're just following the rules."

Song Lubai stood at the door with the bankbook in her hand and said, "According to the regulations? I don't believe that after checking the group's public accounts, we still can't figure out whether there's a problem or not."

She let the two men in and handed them the bankbook.

Her family has two savings accounts; the one she took out was the one containing the money given to her by her parents-in-law.

The date on the passbook couldn't be faked, and the enormous sum left the two speechless.

"So comrade, Wei Yang and I are not short of money at all, so why would we have any other crooked thoughts? In the regiment, we can't even spend Wei Yang's salary, so what use would we have for so much money?"

The two remained silent for a long while.

After Song Lubai took back the passbook, she said, "If you want to know what Wei Yang's parents do, you might as well ask your boss."

After recovering from the shock of the numbers, the woman said, "Comrade, this is just a routine investigation. You still need to give us an explanation about your family relationship with Wei Yang."

Based on their questions, Song Lubai revealed all her relatives in detail. Of course, she only told them what she knew; she couldn't make things up about what she didn't know.

After they had learned enough, the two stood up, and the woman said to her, "Thank you for your cooperation."

After seeing the person off, Song Lubai went to the cafeteria to pick up her daughter.

The two daughters asked anxiously what had happened.

Song Lubai shook her head and said, "It's nothing. My aunt and uncle just came to ask where I bought my pretty clothes."

After managing to fool the child, Wei Yang finally returned home after another half hour.

Both of them felt quite uncomfortable, but with the child in front of them, they could only keep quiet and not mention it.
