Chapter 178 Lin Dahai Gets Beaten Up
Lin Dahai, who had been staying at home and working in seclusion for more than half a year, had been feeling resentful. When he saw Zhang Cui disrespecting him in front of his relatives, his anger flared up.
"She has nowhere to go, what's wrong with letting her stay for a few days?"
Lin Dahai glared, his fists clenched, his eyes blazing with anger.
Zhang Cui knew this was a sign he was about to hit someone; he'd done it before.
She retorted, "Why won't her family take her in? Why should I?"
Zhao Dongmei, standing to the side, said tremblingly, "Auntie, I really have nowhere else to go. Please let me hide here for a few days."
Zhang Cui shouted, "Go wherever you want. If your man comes to my house and causes trouble, who can stop him?"
She looked at Lin Dahai and asked, "Can you beat him? Will you step forward and confront him? Or can you bring yourself to do it?"
Zhang Cui spoke so fast it was like firecrackers going off, that Lin Dahai's face turned red, and he slapped her across the face.
Zhang Cui's ears were ringing from the slaps. After she recovered, she picked up the broom behind the door and started swinging it.
When the Lin brothers, Jianshe and Lin Dahai, returned home after playing outside, they saw many people standing in the hallway and heard noises and fighting coming from their home. The two brothers ran into the house and pulled Lin Dahai away from their mother, who was pinning her to the ground and beating her.
Lin Dahai got carried away and released the anger that had been building up for half a year. Since he had already started hitting him, he might as well hit him to his heart's content. When he saw his two sons getting involved, he simply hit both of them as well.
Zhao Dongmei huddled in the corner, shivering. She never expected things to turn out this way.
"Uncle, stop hitting me, I'm leaving, I'm leaving right now."
After Zhao Dongmei finished speaking, she went out the door and saw a crowd of onlookers gathered at the entrance. She said, trembling, "My uncle is hitting someone. You should go in quickly and pull him away so he can stop hitting people."
Seeing someone go inside, Zhao Dongmei shakily went downstairs.
She was freezing cold, hadn't eaten in a long time, and had only recently suffered a miscarriage after being beaten. Her body was extremely weak, and in this freezing weather, there was nowhere for her to hide.
Lin Dahai was pulled away from upstairs, while Zhang Cui and her two children were beaten until their faces were bruised and swollen, and their noses were bleeding profusely.
Zhang Cui, brandishing her arms and legs, cursed, "Lin Dahai, you bastard, just you wait! We're getting a divorce! I'm not bluffing this time, you better wait and see..."
The couple had argued several times in the past six months, and recently they had several more arguments because of Lin's relatives. There were already many conflicts between them.
Lin Dahai had been holding back his resentment for a long time, and when he heard about divorce, he said arrogantly, "Fine, let's get a divorce! Who's afraid of who!"
Seeing his two sons glaring at him with hatred, he yelled, "Raising you two is worse than raising pigs! Are you going to stay with me or with her?"
Lin Jianshe and Lin Heping stared at him without saying a word.
Only a fool would follow him.
During the Lunar New Year, for the sake of saving face, he sends food, drinks, and money to his nephew, while they themselves have nothing to eat. What kind of father is this! They don't want a father like this!
Zhang Cui went inside, picked up a headscarf, wrapped it around her head, and then went out to leave with her two children.
The neighbors are still trying to persuade them.
"Why are you fighting during the New Year? Lin Dahai, you were in the wrong this time. How can you hold a grudge against your own family for the sake of outsiders?"
Lin Dahai argued, "What outsider? That's my nephew's wife. She has nowhere to go, so what's wrong with letting her stay for a few days?"
Zhang Cui turned around and said, "If you care so much about him, why don't you just become his wife? When your nephew comes, don't say a word when he accuses you of having an affair with his woman. And don't fight back when he hits you!"
Lin Dahai glared and wanted to go over and beat someone up again.
What bothered him most was Zhang Cui speaking ill of his family.
"Where the hell are you going? Don't come back!"
Zhang Cui sneered and walked away without looking back.
What is she going to do? She'll go back to her brothers, sisters, nephews, and cousins, call them all over, beat this bastard half to death, kick him out of the house, and then get a divorce.
She took the bankbook and the money, and without looking back, Zhang Cui led the two children towards the county town.
"I want your father to get a divorce. Who will you two live with?"
The two brothers replied without hesitation, "We'll go with Mom."
They were all afraid of being beaten by their father.
"Dad hasn't hit anyone for only six months. We just told my sister he wouldn't hit anyone anymore..."
Mentioning Song Lubai only strengthened Zhang Cui's resolve to get a divorce.
Lin Dahai was sitting in the main room smoking when a neighbor came in and advised, "Why don't you go and persuade her to come back? I think Zhang Cui is really angry this time. If she really wants a divorce..."
Lin Dahai retorted, "Divorce isn't that easy. She's angry right now, she'll come back on her own in a few days."
He was the head of the family, and he would never again bow his head and let that woman Zhang Cui ride roughshod over him.
Why can she send all the good things to her own daughter, but he can't give the family's things to his nephew! She did the first thing, so don't blame him for doing the fifteenth.
Zhang Cui cherishes this house like the apple of her eye; she'll be back in a few days.
If she brings Zhang Lan back, she'll beat Zhang Lan along with her.
The reason he was beaten by Zhang Lan before wasn't because he couldn't beat her, but because he didn't want to completely sever ties, since life had to go on.
He wanted to make Zhang Cui know who was the boss in the family.
Lin Dahai had high hopes, but when he came home from get off work the next day and saw a room full of people, he instinctively wanted to close the door and run away.
Zhang Cui's nephew, who was sitting at the door, pulled the person inside.
Zhang Cui sneered and asked, "Where are you planning to run off to?"
Lin Dahai was pushed into the middle of the main room, and the door was closed behind him.
When Zhang Cui went back this time, she brought most of her brothers and nephews with her.
Those in the city have to work and can't come to support her, while those in the countryside are free right now. Today, a large group of twelve people came all at once, and the house was almost overflowing.
Lin Dahai asked, his voice stern but his heart pounding, "What do you want to do!"
Zhang Lan kicked him in the waist and cursed, "You heartless bastard, where have you been eating shit and drinking piss that have made you so bold and daring to hit people? Do you think my sister has no one to rely on?"
"Beat them all!"
Lin Dahai was instantly overwhelmed by the Zhang family members, and Zhang Cui punched him in the face.
The room was filled with Lin Dahai's cursing.
The insults grew weaker and weaker, and then he began to beg for mercy.
This beating was different from the last time when Zhang Lan and Zhang Cui beat him together. The men of the Zhang family didn't hold back at all; each kick was excruciatingly painful.
The stairwell was filled with onlookers.
Everyone knows that Zhang Cui brought more than a dozen relatives with her today, and everyone is waiting to see what happens.
Niu Lili next door said sourly, "Zhang Cui's family has been acting like a theatrical performance these past few days. You hit me, I beat you up. What does it matter if they win or lose? Life still goes on."
But she was genuinely envious.
She didn't dare to utter a sound even when she was beaten at home, for fear of being embarrassed if others found out.
She could only cry silently after being beaten. Her son didn't stand by her side, and her family wouldn't let her go back to her parents' home. With no one to support her, she had no confidence to fight back.
