Chapter 13 Chapter 13 Script Reading
The morning in late winter was still filled with chill. It was better with the heater on in the car. When the car parked in the parking space and Xiao Wu opened the door, Yin Yan shivered from the cold.
Xiao Wu jumped down first: "Brother, do you really not need me to accompany you up?"
"Don't go up there. I heard that Mr. Yu usually doesn't bring an assistant." Yin Yan got out of the car with the script. "Go play nearby. I'll send you a message when it's almost over. Don't worry, it's just a script reading. I'll call you if there's anything else."
"Are you teaching me to neglect my duties?"
"What do you mean by dereliction of duty? I asked you to slack off at work and you're still not happy."
There was a sound of a car door closing nearby. Yin Yan glanced over and saw that the car had already driven away, leaving only the man standing there. The long woolen coat was worn to the most suitable proportion on him. The belt was tucked into the pockets on both sides, so the collar was slightly open, and the black turtleneck sweater under the coat could be seen. The fit was perfect, just outlining the perfect figure.
The man noticed the gaze from the side, turned his head, and found that the owner of the gaze was Yin Yan. The corners of his beautiful almond-shaped eyes above the mask drooped slightly, as if he was smiling.
With his eye-catching long legs moving, Yu Xiangwen stopped in front of Yin Yan with a burst of warm fragrance: "What a coincidence."
"Ah..." Yin Yan was a little slow to react. Xiao Wu secretly elbowed him from behind, and he said in panic, "Ah, yes, what a coincidence, what a coincidence, isn't it... Good morning, Teacher Yu!"
His almond-shaped eyes curved even lower, and Yu Xiangwen said with a smile: "Don't you all call me Brother Yu on WeChat?"
"Oh, um, then... Yu, hello Brother Yu." Yin Yan didn't understand why he didn't dare to look at Yu Xiangwen's face. His eyes turned left and right, but he didn't dare to look Yu Xiangwen in the eye.
"Hand." Yu Xiangwen said.
"What?" Yin Yan was confused, but he still raised his hand obediently, with two boxes of pastries hanging on his fingers.
Subconsciously tightening his fingers, Yin Yan then looked into Yu Xiangwen's eyes.
"I promised to give you the pastries." The pair of almond-shaped eyes were still looking at him intently, which made Yin Yan realize that his confusion was seen by the man.
Yin Yan lowered his head hastily as if he had been burned: "Ah, two boxes?"
"Yes, didn't I tell you that I left two boxes for you?" Yu Xiangwen seemed to realize at this moment that he was a little too close to Yin Yan, and took a step back. "It just so happens that we ran into each other, so just put them in the car, take them up, and I'll share them with everyone."
The warm fragrance was swept away by the cold wind in the early morning, and Yin Yan regained his breath: "This is the cake you brought. If you want, you can share it with everyone."
"Hmm?" Maybe it was because Yin Yan's voice was too soft, Yu Xiangwen didn't seem to hear it clearly.
"...Nothing." Yin Yan suddenly changed his mind and decided to take both boxes for himself.
It was originally given to him anyway.
He turned around hurriedly, stuffed the cake into Xiao Wu's hand, and whispered, "Go and fish, don't eat secretly."
There was someone nearby, Xiao Wu was angry but could not say anything, he also whispered back: "Who wants to steal food!"
He glanced at Yu Xiangwen, but before he could look any further, Yin Yan rushed him into the car: "Go, go."
After Xiao Wu left, Yin Yan and Yu Xiangwen entered the office together. Yu Xiangwen said, "The assistant has followed us, why don't you let him go up with you?"
"It's boring for him to wait here." Yin Yan moved aside to let Yu Xiangwen get on the elevator first. He fell behind by a step and took a breath secretly.
"My assistant is on vacation recently. If you are used to having an assistant around, just bring him with you. It's okay." Yu Xiangwen said.
"No." Yin Yan quickly shook his head, "It's just... reading the script, and I don't need an assistant."
"Yeah." Yu Xiangwen looked up at the elevator number.
The same goes for Yin Yan.
It was the first time he felt that the elevator was moving so slowly.
The enclosed space was filled with Yu Xiangwen's scent.
Today's perfume was still in the top notes, with a hint of coldness mixed in. Yin Yan glanced at Yu Xiangwen's chiseled profile from the corner of his eye. As soon as the man moved, he immediately turned his head away, a little deliberately.
Yu Xiangwen looked at the back of Yin Yan's hairy head and said, "We're here."
"Yeah." Yin Yan turned his head stiffly and walked down the elevator without looking around.
The man behind him chuckled softly, and he heard it.
Yin Yan felt that all his preparations over the past few days were in vain.
Why was he so nervous when he saw Yu Xiangwen? He hadn't been so nervous before.
There were quite a few people in the conference room. Yin Yan gradually relaxed and took back his soul which had been driven out of his body by Shen Yan early in the morning.
"Hello, Yin Yan~" Liu Jiaying arrived a little later than Yin Yan and Yu Xiangwen. As soon as she entered the meeting room, she walked towards Yin Yan, "We finally meet. You are indeed more beautiful in person than on TV."
"Sister Liu." Yin Yan was flattered and stood up and shook hands with Liu Jiaying.
Liu Jiaying can argue with Yu Xiangwen in the group, so her status is naturally not low. She has not won the honor of Best Actress yet, but she is also a very capable actor.
"My sister likes you very much. Can she ask you for an autograph later?" Liu Jiaying said expectantly, holding his hand.
"Of course." Yin Yan naturally would not refuse such a small request.
"You want an autograph as soon as we meet?"
Yin Yan discovered that Yu Xiangwen was probably a little nearsighted. When he entered the conference room, he put on the half-frame glasses he wore during the last audition to read the script. Now that he was talking, he took off his glasses out of habit.
"We were just reading a script today. How come you dressed more exquisitely than me?" Liu Jiaying leaned over to look at him. "Tsk tsk, you look like a peacock with its tail spread out."
Yu Xiangwen replied: "You don't pay enough attention to your image."
Yin Yan looked down at his classic college student outfit - hoodie and trousers, and felt like he was being attacked.
Yu Xiangwen caught his little action: "...Sorry, I didn't say what you meant."
Liu Jiaying pulled out a chair and sat next to Yin Yan, laughing so hard that she almost fell on the table.
After everyone arrived, the reading session officially began. Director Zhao Qing still said very little, and the speeches were mainly organized by his assistant and deputy director Yang Jiashu.
Yin Yan had participated in script readings before, but it was not as formal as this.
In fact, Yin Yan had a very high starting point in the industry, and he played a major role in his first film. At that time, Yin Yan knew nothing, and the director did not make things difficult for him. Some tasks of character or plot analysis were explained by the director, and Yin Yan was responsible for listening and remembering.
In the subsequent filming experience, everyone also understood that Yin Yan was young and a newcomer, so there was no need for him to express too profound insights, and he just needed to read the script as required.
This time the reading is different. Yin Yan is the male lead, and he will definitely be the focus of attention of the director, screenwriter, etc.
Yin Yan was well prepared and wrote more than ten pages of character biographies, and also gave simple analysis and annotations on other characters one by one.
Of course, he didn't bring any manuscript paper with him, as it would have been too conspicuous.
But he brought a marked-up script.
Yin Yan was glad that he brought the script, because Yu Xiangwen also brought his own script, which also had a lot of scribbling and markings on it.
Even with all the preparation, Yin Yan was still afraid of being called on to speak.
After reading each section of the script, everyone would stop for a brief discussion.
When he really needed to speak, Yin Yan was able to express his views clearly and logically, but the director remained silent the entire time, neither saying anything good nor bad, which made Yin Yan feel very unsure and he felt more and more guilty the more he spoke.
After a whole morning of reading, Yin Yan felt even more uneasy than in the discussion classes at university.
Uniform boxed lunches are arranged for noon, and if you don’t want to eat, you can order takeout.
Yin Yan didn't have much of an appetite, but he didn't want to not eat, so he forced himself to stuff the lunch box into his mouth.
A can of coffee was placed next to the lunch box. Yin Yan looked up and saw Yu Xiangwen's slightly lowered eyes.
At noon, the sun broke through the clouds. The room had been stuffy for too long, so for ventilation, the windows of the conference room were opened. A beam of sunlight happened to fall obliquely on Yu Xiangwen, giving him a soft filter.
The man's eyes were not purely black, but a very clear brown in the sunlight.
"Don't force yourself to eat if you don't want to."
Yin Yan swallowed the food in his mouth, found a tissue to wipe his mouth, and then said, "I ate too much this morning, and I have no appetite."
Yu Xiangwen looked at him for a while, opened the coffee for him, and asked him, "Do you want to go out for a walk?"
Yin Yan picked up the coffee and found it was hot.
"Director Zhao is a little different from other directors. As you know, the content of the script now will be very different from the actual filming."
Yin Yan, wearing his Michelin tire-like down jacket and holding a can of hot coffee, followed the handsome actor Yu as they strolled in the courtyard.
He listened to Yu Xiangwen's words and nodded in response: "Yeah."
Yu Xiangwen glanced at him and continued, "Director Zhao will be more extreme during filming. The current script and the actual filming content may be completely different. It is normal for him to overturn the original script on the day of filming and use completely opposite plots on the spot."
Yin Yan had seen flying pages before, which usually modified and supplemented some small details. He had never seen a flying page that completely overturned the original plot.
He took a sip of coffee and felt a little confused.
"so."
Yin Yan is half a head shorter than Yu Xiangwen. It's not Yin Yan's fault for being short, but Yu Xiangwen's fault for being too tall. So when Yu Xiangwen stopped talking halfway and couldn't wait for the rest of the sentence, Yin Yan had to turn his head and look at the person beside him.
The man seemed to be waiting for his gaze. When he saw him looking at him, the corners of his lips curled up slightly and he said, "So we are analyzing the plot and characters now. It's not that the director wants to test whether we have read the script carefully. He just wants to hear everyone's opinions. He himself hasn't completely determined what kind of plot this is. At this moment, the actors can say whatever they want. "
"Director Zhao didn't say anything because he was listening to everyone's interpretations from different perspectives. He didn't want his opinions to affect other people's thinking."
"Everything you said this morning is good. Don't worry about making mistakes, because there is no right or wrong in the script."
The kitten blinked its round eyes, and Yin Yan slowly realized that Yu Xiangwen really had bought a can of coffee just to cheer him up.
He felt that his ears must have turned red.
Yin Yan's somewhat depressed mood suddenly became like the clouds in the sky, floating around.
He nodded, buried his face in his scarf, and said excitedly: "I understand, thank you Brother Yu."
Just a slight touch on the top of the head will separate them.
When Yin Yan looked up again, Yu Xiangwen had already put his hand down.
"You're welcome."
