Chapter 169 The Shocking Underground Tribe
When Nafi heard the female master say "single days," the corners of his lips couldn't help but curl up slightly.
No more single life...
This is a novel yet accurate statement.
He felt that the female master was right.
It was another winding, circuitous road.
Nafiel led the two to a very spacious cavern, surrounded by endless darkness. In one corner of the cavern, there was a fire pit with a stone pot on it, but both were covered with a thick layer of ash.
On the ground were stone jars, stone bowls and other utensils, some standing upright and some lying down.
If you ignore the thick layer of ash, it seems like just an ordinary, spacious kitchen, where the owner might return with prey at any moment.
As Jiang Xi watched all this, she felt that the people of this underground tribe probably never thought they would never come back when they left.
What exactly happened here?
She became increasingly curious about it.
When I have time in the future, I must come and explore it; perhaps I will have some unexpected discoveries.
A flame lit up.
Nafiel lit the pine resin block with a flint, then brought out some charcoal from somewhere and started burning it.
Jiang Xi's eyes lit up when she saw the charcoal.
"There's charcoal here!"
Nafiel: "So this stuff is called charcoal. There's a lot of it here."
He didn't know what it was; he had just accidentally lit it once. The smoke was very thin and cooked all the prey he had hunted, so he remembered it.
The charcoal was lit, and half a pig was placed on it to roast.
It takes quite a while to bake them.
Jiang Xi glanced at the charcoal fire, then at the pitch-black surroundings, and couldn't sit still.
She couldn't help but say to Nafer.
"Naffier, is there anything else in this cavern? Could you use the ice crystal to shine a light on me?"
We can't go far, but we should be able to take a stroll around this cave.
Nafer looked up at her.
Perhaps because of his albinism, his eyes were a very light blue, with a hazy layer of mist over them, which always gave Jiang Xi a sense of unreality when they met.
She thought he was going to refuse and was about to speak when Nafer raised his hand and waved it away.
Then the entire cave suddenly became bright, so bright that Jiang Xi instinctively closed her eyes.
When she opened her eyes again, she had expected to see a shocking scene, but she never imagined it would be so impactful.
The walls of the spacious hall are covered with countless caves, which are connected by winding paths that spiral upwards from the exterior facade.
Her gaze slowly moved upwards; the light of the ice crystals had an end, but the cave had no end.
"This is...where they live."
The four walls house the residents, while the central hall is used for cooking, singing, dancing, and revelry...
In Jiang Xi's mind, the bustling underground life of the ancient indigenous beast people came to mind.
Even though she already has a considerable understanding of the world, she is still curious and full of desire to explore such underground tribal cultures.
Mu Ling interrupted the conversation.
"It's pitch black. What's so great about living underground? No wonder they moved away."
Because he was dissatisfied with Nefertari, he was dissatisfied with everything related to him, even the place where he lived.
Even if you can't find fault with something, you still have to find something to criticize.
Jiang Xi knew that Mu Ling was feeling upset, so she didn't say anything to him.
She turned around, ready to look in other directions.
But as soon as she turned her head, she was enveloped by a huge object, which startled her so much that her heart stopped and she took several steps back until she touched something cold and stopped.
She glanced to the side and saw that it was Nafi's tail that was supporting her, so she held onto his tail to stand up straight and thanked him in a trembling voice.
"Thanks."
Nafiel looked at the firelight, grunted in response, and kept its tail raised without moving.
Jiang Xi looked towards the very center of the cave hall.
There stood a giant snake statue, its body as thick as a building, its scales clearly defined, its enormous head bent down, its tongue flicking, and its huge pupils covered in ash, yet it still gave Jiang Xi a terrifying feeling, as if it were staring at her.
She looked at the statue, placed her hand on her chest, and let out a long breath.
She was so scared she almost had her heart jump out of her chest.
After her gaze swept around the room, she was able to see the structure of the entire cavern clearly.
The four walls are the dwelling caves, connected by winding paths leading upwards. In the center stands a giant serpent statue, whose base is a series of massive stone steps resembling a circular altar, leading up to a total of seven steps.
A certain area outside the base is paved with stone slabs, which distinguishes it from other areas. This area was probably an important activity site, such as a place for sacrifices.
The kitchen where she worked was open, with many fire pits, capable of accommodating many people cooking food at the same time.
Furthermore, some stone jars and pots contained black food residue.
This, to some extent, proves that these indigenous people were temporarily evacuated, rather than voluntarily and preparedly.
Jiang Xi's conjecture was further confirmed by the bows, arrows, spears, stone knives, and other relics found in the first cave.
Mu Ling followed the female master and his eyes lit up when he saw the bow and arrows inside.
He walked in a few steps, took down the bow and arrow hanging on the wall, but as soon as he drew it, the bow made a crisp snapping sound.
With a "crack," the bow shattered into countless pieces in his hand, leaving only a single string.
"The quality is terrible!"
As he spoke, he threw away the string and picked up another one, but it still broke as soon as he pulled it.
He turned to grab the spear, but as soon as his hand touched it, it shattered into several pieces.
Amidst the chaos, only a few strings made of animal sinew remained intact.
Jiang Xi quickly replied.
"Mu Ling, this string is still usable. It hasn't broken after all these years. We can take it back and use it on the new bow!"
Bows and arrows, throwing weapons, and other weapons are essential skills for orcs.
But in the past, Mu Ling had powerful abilities and disdained to rely on such things.
His powers are currently restricted, which is why he had the idea of carrying a bow on the road.
Hearing what the female master said, he thought for a moment, picked up three or four strings made of some kind of animal sinew from the ground, and quickly tied them around his waist.
The two continued exploring the next cave.
As soon as Jiang Xi entered the cave, she smelled a familiar scent of spices.
The animal skin bags were all open. She saw coarse salt in one bag, and the other bags contained different colors. She didn't dare to smell them, worried that there might be some ancient bacteria.
If the previous cave was an armory, then this one is a kitchen storage room.
Although Jiang Xi couldn't confirm what was in the cave, she could smell the aroma of cinnamon and star anise.
In other words, the indigenous people here discovered these spices that could be used for food very early on.
Compared to them, the Lion Roar tribe is actually far behind.
In another cave, Jiang Xi discovered animal hides, animal teeth, herbs, and stone slabs engraved with hieroglyphs...
Finally, a well was discovered in a corner of the spacious cavern.
There were stone barrels around the well, with long animal sinews tied to them.
Jiang Xi peeked inside, but it was pitch black and she couldn't see anything.
She pulled Mu Ling closer.
"Mu Ling, you have sharp eyes. Look, is there still water in there?"
