The seventh brother looked up at the sky, pretending not to have heard those words.
Lan Linxue waited for Shuanghua in the house until it got dark, but Shuanghua still didn't come back.
Lan Linxue was in a terrible state, unable to sit or stand comfortably, and her whole body ached. After her dressing was changed, Lan Linxue leaned back in the soft chair and cursed Shuanghua.
The seventh brother pretended to be deaf and mute, since he knew nothing anyway, and he absolutely could not tell Shuanghua these things.
Finally, there was movement outside the door.
Shuanghua slowly entered, supported by a small sedan chair.
Lan Linxue quickly sat up, staring intently at the doorway, her heart slowly starting to beat faster.
The seventh brother knew how much his master valued this old man.
So, as soon as the sedan chair landed, he waited at the door with an umbrella, and he and Shuanghua slowly helped Granny Qin out.
Grandma Qin was holding the purse that Lan Linxue had when she was a child.
The two people slowly helped the old man into the main hall.
Shuanghua gave Lao Qi a wink, and Lao Qi immediately nodded, stayed at the door to guard it, and then gently closed the door.
The room was brightly lit, and Granny Qin felt it was a bit too bright, so she instinctively shielded her eyes with her hand.
Shuanghua quickly went to the side and blew out several lamps, then came over to help Granny Qin, saying, "Granny, the lights are out, you can open your eyes now!"
Upon hearing this, the old man slowly removed his hand from his eyes.
Then, she immediately spotted Lan Linxue sitting opposite her.
Granny Qin immediately became excited, took two steps forward with a slight stagger, and reached out her hand as if she wanted to touch Lan Linxue.
Shuanghua quickly helped the old woman up, saying, "Grandma, be careful!"
Granny Qin looked back at Shuanghua, and seemed to calm down a bit.
Barely suppressing her emotions, the old woman stared intently at Lan Linxue, slowly walked over, and knelt on the ground, trembling as she said, "This old woman, Qin Jiazi, greets the Crown Prince. Long live the Crown Prince!"
As she spoke, the old woman kowtowed.
Lan Linxue quickly raised his hand, wanting to stand up, but the wound on his back was too painful, so he could only give Shuanghua a look.
Shuanghua quickly helped the old man up.
Lan Linxue looked at the old man and said with some difficulty, "Grandpa, please don't be so polite, please sit down!"
Seeing Lan Linxue's expression, Shuanghua helped the old man to Lan Linxue's side, moved a chair over, and let the old man sit next to Lan Linxue.
Granny Qin saw Lan Linxue more clearly now, and her eyes instantly reddened. She slowly reached out her hand, carefully examining Lan Linxue, and then tremblingly touched Lan Linxue's face. "Your Highness, have you finally remembered who I am? Twenty years have passed, and you, you have grown so much!"
As he spoke, tears streamed down the old man's face.
Lan Linxue looked at the old man, and although she still couldn't remember who he was, she felt a pang of sadness in her heart.
Forcing a smile, Lan Linxue grasped Granny Qin's hand and said softly, "Granny, you still remember Linxue, but there are some things I can no longer recall!"
Granny Qin nodded immediately, her tears flowing even more freely. "It's not the Crown Prince's fault! He was too young then, how could he remember anything? The eldest young lady only took the Crown Prince back to her parents' home once, what could he possibly remember?"
Lan Linxue's expression tightened, "Young Miss?"
Granny Qin gave a bitter smile, took the handkerchief Shuanghua handed her, and wiped her tears as she said, "The eldest young lady is the Crown Prince's mother, the Empress who died young! In other people's hearts she is the Empress, but in my heart, she is just my eldest young lady!"
"Grandma Qin, what exactly happened back then? Why did my mother commit suicide? And why did the Qin family rebel?"
Speaking of these things, Lan Linxue felt a sharp, stabbing pain in her heart.
Granny Qin wiped away her tears, looked at Lan Linxue, and sighed helplessly, "Is this what they told the Crown Prince? That the Qin family is plotting a rebellion?"
Lan Linxue nodded and then shook her head, her eyes lowered somberly as she said, "No one said anything! I just found this one sentence hastily written in the archives. In the palace, this is a taboo topic; no one is allowed to mention it! So, until now, I know nothing! And I can't find anything!"
Granny Qin nodded, coldly looking at Lan Linxue: "They will definitely say that, and they will definitely do that! Otherwise, once the Crown Prince finds out what happened back then, it will be an endless source of trouble. Unfortunately, no matter how much they planned, they still couldn't outwit fate. In the end, my Qin family was blessed by Heaven to have left behind Kou'er and this old woman who is not quite dead yet!"
"What exactly happened?" Lan Linxue was extremely anxious. "My father clearly loved my mother very much, so why did the Qin family rebel and force her to her death?"
Granny Qin sneered, a hint of hatred flashing across her aged face. "Your father? Your father is the most heartless and ruthless person in the world, what talk of love! Crown Prince, since I have met you today, since I have seen you, it is the will of Heaven! The will of Heaven has allowed this injustice suffered by the Qin family to be redressed. All of this has to start from twenty-five years ago!"
Lan Linxue nodded, poured the old man a cup of tea herself, and listened quietly as he recounted his past.
"The Qin family was not originally Han Chinese. The Qin family was a prominent noble family from a small country in the south called Chu Zhao."
Although Chu Zhao has a small territory, it has unearthed a rare stone that can make swords stronger, and they also have many mines that often contain gold and silver. Therefore, although Chu Zhao is a small country, it is exceptionally wealthy.
The patriarch of the Qin family once rescued a Han Chinese man on the border. This man was very eloquent and possessed considerable literary talent. After recovering, he told the patriarch that the Central Plains were a vast and resource-rich land with a profound cultural heritage, a perfect place for the Qin family's descendants to realize their ambitions. Moreover, the man claimed that his family's connections would surely bring the Qin family into high office and ensure their perpetual prosperity.
