Chapter 20 was finally worth the effort.

Lan Shanyang's sudden fainting startled everyone.

Lan Linxue reacted the fastest, calling out "Father Emperor" and jumping up to rush over.

When Lan Xiuyuan saw Lan Linxue move, he also got up and was about to rush forward, but Lan Qingtian suddenly turned around and stopped him.

Lan Qingtian glared at Lan Xiuyuan and shouted sternly, "Your Highness, aren't you overstepping your bounds by being so flustered at this moment? Shouldn't you, as a prince, set an example during this time of panic?"

Seeing Lan Qingtian's cold gaze, Lan Xiuyuan's extremely flustered heart suddenly calmed down. He quickly took a few steps back and knelt down again: "Nephew was flustered and lost his composure. Please forgive me, Imperial Uncle!"

Seeing that Lan Xiuyuan had become obedient, Lan Qingtian immediately roared to those below, "Let's see who dares to make a move!"

Immediately, everyone knelt on the ground, heads bowed, and no one dared to move.

At this critical moment, the emperor was in danger, and anyone who knew the truth would be considered a traitor, so naturally no one dared to make any rash moves.

At that moment, Hu Tianyong suddenly stood up shakily, cupped his hands to Lan Qingtian and said, "Your Highness, according to regulations, this old minister is required to accompany you!"

Lan Qingtian knew that the emperor's sudden fainting was a sign of a national emergency, and according to regulations, a first-rank official in the court must be by his side at all times to prevent any accidents.

Lan Qingtian nodded heavily, and slightly moved aside to let Hu Tianyong pass.

At this moment, Lan Linxue had already accompanied the Emperor to the Imperial Study at the back of the palace, and Hu Tianyong also hurried over there.

Xu Ming, who was kneeling on the ground weeping, saw Hu Tianyong walking towards the back and immediately stood up to follow him.

Upon seeing this, Lan Qingtian immediately stepped forward to stop him.

"Lord Xu! Where are you going?"

"His Majesty is unwell, of course I must accompany him!" Xu Ming said confidently. He already disliked Lan Qingtian very much, and now he was even more furious.

Lan Qingtian lazily glanced at Xu Ming with her eyelids, then curled her lips in a mocking smile and said, "Lord Xu, you'd better calm down! The Emperor hasn't even given his final verdict on the Fifth Prince's accusations against you yet! Besides, look how angry you've made the Emperor! Who knows how much effort and flattery Lord Hu will have to put in to plead for you! Lord Xu, if you ask me, you really should thank Lord Hu later; he's gone to great lengths for you!"

As she spoke, Lan Qingtian deliberately glanced at Lan Xiuyuan.

Lan Xiuyuan quickly bowed and said, "Your Highness is too kind. Lord Hu has always been a model of dedication and service for us! Lord Xu, there's really no need for thanks. Just manage your subordinates well in the future and make His Majesty's life more comfortable. The Prime Minister has never thought of asking Lord Xu for any favors!"

At this moment, Xu Ming was so angry he was about to vomit blood. He now saw it all too clearly: Lan Xiuyuan and Hu Tianyong had obviously set a trap for him.

On one side, Lan Xiuyuan accused him of oppressing innocent people and implied that he had treasonous intentions. On the other side, Hu Tianyong went to the emperor to curry favor, even if it was to plead for him, it was all insincere and a show of his tolerance and magnanimity.

He'd seen through Hu Tianyong's tricks for over twenty years; how could he not?

In short, Lan Xiuyuan slaps him in the face, and then Hu Tianyong feeds him a sweet treat. As for the purpose, it's obvious that it's all for the vacant position of crown prince.

Their back-and-forth banter was all to leave the emperor with the impression of being diligent in governing and caring for his people.

Thinking of their malicious intentions, Xu Ming hated them even more than he hated Lan Linxue. In the end, Lan Linxue was at best a hopeless case, but Hu Tianyong and Lan Xiuyuan were like toads in a gutter, not only biting but also disgusting.

Therefore, the topic that was originally brought up by Lan Qingtian ended up with Xu Ming directing all his resentment at Hu Tianyong and his grandson.

Lan Linxue rushed to Lan Shanyang's side and knew that Lan Shanyang was faking fainting.

It wasn't for any other reason than that Lan Shanyang's eyelashes were moving so much that they were even more agile than his own.

Lan Linxue rolled his eyes out of boredom, but when he looked down, he found that Lan Shanyang had also secretly glared at him. Then he closed his eyes again and continued to pretend to be unconscious.

Although Lan Linxue and Lan Shanyang were both sneaky, they still performed their roles perfectly: Lan Linxue, like a dutiful grandson, anxiously guarded Lan Shanyang, while Lan Shanyang closed his eyes and pretended to be so angry that he died.

After entering the inner room of the Imperial Study and having arranged everything for everyone, Lan Shanyang opened her eyes, leaned against the bed, and lazily pointed at Jing Quan, "Go and bring me my breakfast, I'm hungry!"

Lan Linxue glanced at Lan Shanyang, then turned to Jing Quan and said, "I haven't eaten either, I'm hungry too!"

Lan Shanyang glared at Lan Linxue, but said nothing. He simply closed his eyes and lay down comfortably.

Lan Linxue watched her father harassing the group of people outside, and surprisingly, she was quite well-behaved and didn't say much. She sat quietly to the side, flipping through the memorials on the table.

A short while later, Quan Jing lifted the curtain and walked in. He went up to Lan Shanyang and whispered, "Your Majesty, Lord Hu is waiting here!"

Upon hearing this, Lan Linxue immediately gave a mocking laugh and looked at Lan Shanyang, saying, "Father, do you think he's waiting for good news or bad news?"

Lan Shanyang glared at Lan Linxue, "You're such a chatterbox!"

Then, he lazily said to Jing Quan, "Go out and tell Hu Tianyong that I am currently in a state of turmoil and really do not want to see these ministers anymore. Tell him to pass on an edict to Xu Ming, instructing him to properly deal with the people who caused trouble last night. As for himself, let him stay home and recuperate; he doesn't need to attend court for the next few days!"
