Lan Linxue was stunned!
Qin Kou'er and Qin Kou'er stared at each other for a long time, neither of them knowing what to say next.
After a long pause, Lan Linxue seemed to finally react. She jumped off the bed and onto the floor, standing barefoot. Pointing at Qin Kou'er, she roared, "Qin Kou'er! Explain yourself! What do you mean by 'it's not easy to like me'?"
This time, Qin Kou'er was in a bit of an awkward situation.
She looked up at Lan Linxue and stammered, "It just means it's not easy! Look, you're high and mighty, while I'm lowly and humble, our statuses are mismatched; you're so poor you're practically begging for money, while I'm rolling in money, throwing it all over the place, the gap between rich and poor is huge; you..."
"Get to the point!" Lan Linxue was about to explode!
"The point is—" Qin Kou'er slowly stood up, looked at Lan Linxue, and took a deep breath, "Lan Linxue, I don't know if I like you!"
"Say that to me again?"
Lan Linxue was truly enraged. She strode over and tried to grab Qin Kou'er's hair.
Upon seeing Qin Kou'er's pure, innocent eyes, he immediately turned his clenched fist into a clenched fist and slammed it hard against the glass lamp hanging behind Qin Kou'er.
"Qin Kou'er, explain yourself! You want to marry me but don't know if you even like me? Do you really only want to be the Crown Princess, regardless of who the Crown Prince is?"
Lan Linxue's voice became low and cold, her eyes sharp and dangerous.
Qin Kou'er stared at the man in front of her who was now truly enraged. She wanted to explain herself, but her body reacted more directly: she nodded.
Lan Linxue's expression changed instantly.
He viciously grabbed the glass lamp that was afraid of touching Qin Kou'er and smashed it on the ground with a shattering sound.
Overwhelmed by anger and bitterness, Lan Linxue completely lost control, smashing everything around him to the ground. He even threw the blankets off the bed.
Qin Kou'er stood there on the ground, watching Lan Linxue vent her anger like a blizzard.
Those outside, hearing the crackling sounds from inside, became somewhat tense. Shuanghua, however, remained expressionless, freezing everyone in place: "That young couple has money; they like to indulge in their whims. What business is it of anyone else's!"
Finally, Lan Linxue was exhausted. He sat on the edge of the bed, slightly out of breath, his brows furrowed. His hands were clenched into fists until his knuckles turned white. He lowered his head, staring straight ahead, lost in thought. He never once looked at Qin Kou'er.
Qin Kou'er looked at Lan Linxue, and a sudden, tangled sadness welled up inside her. She silently walked to Lan Linxue's side, slowly sat down, and wanted to place her hand on him, but after thinking about it, she put it down instead.
"Lan Linxue, actually I..."
"Qin Kou'er! You have no conscience!"
Lan Linxue stared at the ground, her face expressionless. Her voice was clear and cold, yet it betrayed an unconcealable pain.
"For you, I'd scheme against anyone, do anything! Yet you don't love me at all! If all you've ever wanted is that crown prince position, then you shouldn't have said you wanted to marry me when we first met! I am who I am, not some crown prince, not some heir apparent! I'm just the man who loves you and wants to marry you!"
After speaking, Lan Linxue stood up woodenly, his posture still as upright as a dragon, but Qin Kou'er felt as if she saw a huge crack behind him, ready to tear him apart at any moment.
Lan Linxue walked out coldly, leaving Qin Kou'er alone behind her.
For the first time in his life, he fell in love with a woman, but she was still only interested in his power and interests. Compared to his power, his affection was so insignificant as to be almost negligible.
It's not her fault! Lan Linxue told himself this over and over again, otherwise, he was afraid he would kill her right now! Really, he couldn't blame Qin Kou'er for deceiving him. She always said she was marrying the Crown Prince, and he had been too wishful thinking, believing that this woman would eventually be moved by him.
It seems he was wrong! Terribly wrong.
"At eight, overnight I became the person in the world most deserving of death; at ten, I was told I could only marry the Crown Prince; at sixteen, I received the Crown Prince's first portrait. In two years, seven hundred and fifty days, I painted a total of one hundred and five portraits of the Crown Prince. I could imagine every move he made, every frown and smile. To get to his side, to have Qin Kou'er's name on his list of choices, I worked day and night to earn money. Because besides money, I didn't know what other way I could make him look at me! Lan Linxue, facing me like this, what grievance do you have?"
Lan Linxue stood stiffly, then slowly turned around.
Qin Kou'er stared straight at the man opposite her, and a single tear silently escaped her eye.
