Jun Yannuo, who was standing nearby, heard this and looked at her with a smile, saying, "Now there are a lot of people eyeing you! Even if it's not for you personally, it's definitely for your money!"
Qin Kou'er gave a wry smile, frowning as she looked at Jun Yannuo, "Can you please not be so blunt? It makes life meaningless!"
Jun Yannuo immediately burst into laughter.
The two men traveled by carriage to inspect all the branch offices in Yangzhou, and then listened to some recent reports. By the time they finished, it was already dusk.
Jun Yannuo watched as the night began to stir again, and couldn't help but smile as he turned to Qin Kou'er and said, "It's so late, and we haven't eaten yet. Why don't we go to our usual spot for dinner?"
Qin Kou'er reflexively shook her head. "I've been out all day, and Lan Linxue's patience has probably run out. If I don't go back to have dinner with him tonight, who knows what kind of attitude he'll give me! I'd better go back and eat, and let him have some peace and quiet!"
A hint of disappointment flickered across Junyan's brow.
"He hasn't come looking for you all day, something must have happened! You're rushing back so urgently tonight, what if he's not there? You'll go hungry! Besides, you have a place to eat, but I'll have to drink cold water when I get back! Lord, aren't you being a bit too biased?"
Qin Kou'er couldn't help but burst out laughing when she heard Jun Yannuo complain.
"What, you've become childish now? It seems Lan Linxue really is a plague. We need to get rid of him quickly, lest he corrupt my people!"
Qin Kou'er glanced at the sky outside, then thought that Jun Yannuo's words weren't wrong. Her world couldn't revolve solely around him!
Nodding, "Alright! Let's go to our usual spot for dinner! It's on me today, to make up for all the hard work our Chief Steward Jun has done today!"
When Jun Yannuo heard that Qin Kou'er had agreed, he was both surprised and delighted.
Without asking too many questions, he told his men to hurry towards the usual spot.
Lan Linxue really didn't intend to have dinner with Qin Kou'er.
The reason was that he had been trying all day but hadn't been able to sneak into Qin Kou'er's room.
At first, he wanted Shuanghua to trick Meiyan, who was directing the maids to tidy up inside, into leaving so he could go in. But Shuanghua was too stupid; she couldn't even speak properly.
He went inside and saw Meiyan, whose face was even more unpleasant than his own, and she almost beat him out with a broom.
Lan Linxue was so angry she was practically fuming.
When one plan fails, another immediately comes to mind.
Lan Linxue sent someone to find Meiyan, determined to teach the girl a lesson in broad daylight. Her only goal was to lure her out.
As a result, Mei Yan felt that she had gone halfway and suddenly started rolling on the ground, unable to get any further.
They even said that her demeanor was poor and that she was too ugly, which might frighten the crown prince.
Lan Linxue didn't dare to go too far, so the plan fell through again.
After a whole day of this, with all the archery and bow-drawing, Lan Linxue still couldn't get into the house.
Even as evening approached, Lan Linxue was still worried that Qin Kou'er would return and they would miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
So, in the end, he had no choice but to use the excuse of waiting for Qin Kou'er in her room to openly take over the place and kick everyone out of the room before he could finally have some peace and quiet.
Lan Linxue had been to Qin Kou'er's room at least eight or ten times. But as far as he remembered, Qin Kou'er's room really didn't have any secret passages or mechanisms.
Just to be on the safe side, he and Shuanghua thoroughly checked the house again, but still found nothing.
"I told you Qin Kou'er is as cunning as a fox, and we couldn't find any clues at all, but you wouldn't believe me. Now look what's happened, the person's in, but we've come up empty-handed. If Qin Kou'er knew you'd been wasting your whole day, she'd definitely understand what's going on! Let's see what you have to say then!"
Lan Linxue stood inside the room with her hands on her hips, her brows furrowed as she fired a barrage of shots.
"That's strange, there shouldn't be anything there! How can it be so clean?"
Shuanghua walked to his side and asked coldly, "Could it be in her study? I've always seen Qin Kou'er's study heavily guarded; no one is allowed to approach easily!"
Lan Linxue touched the corner of her mouth and thought carefully for a moment, then looked at Shuanghua and said with a puzzled expression, "Qin Kou'er once said that her parents both burned to death. If she has such a deep wound in her heart, there's no reason why she wouldn't keep something with her to express her longing!"
"You mean yourself, right?" Frostflower asked without hesitation.
Lan Linxue's expression froze for a moment, then she slapped Shuanghua on the shoulder. "Shut up! Keep looking! I don't believe there's nothing left in this house!"
As she spoke, Lan Linxue lowered her head and began rummaging through things again.
Both of them were extremely careful, trying their best to make it impossible for anyone to see any signs that the house had been ransacked.
Lan Linxue thought to himself, if Qin Kou'er really found out, he would just deny it no matter what! If this woman went crazy, he would probably get a beating.
Lan Linxue felt she had nowhere left to look; she had even checked under the bed three times.
Just as he sat down in the chair to rest for a while, he suddenly felt that there was something strange about a painting in front of him.
It was a traditional Chinese ink painting of Guanyin touching water. Guanyin had a kind face, and the brushstrokes were graceful. It was a very common painting full of auspiciousness.
The only odd thing is that it's impossible to tell which master painted this. Even Qin Kou'er's paintings are far superior in skill.
Lan Linxue glanced around.
