The fifth day of the Lunar New Year is a good day to visit relatives.
On the Song family's side, the place where his two aunts married was quite far away and it was difficult to get around, so Song Chen only went to visit his uncle and aunt every year.
He only had this one uncle, and thanks to his family all those years, otherwise the Song brothers might have starved to death under such living conditions.
Including his uncle, Song Chen's mother is the third in line, with an older sister and a younger sister.
The brothers and sisters had a very good relationship. The year the old lady passed away, they all cried so much that they fainted.
The Lin family also needs to go and see Lin Lu's grandparents. She has been awake for half a year and has not visited them once.
"Mom and Dad, you guys go to grandma's house first. Lulu, Xiaobei and I will go to my uncle's house first. We will go over to visit grandpa and grandma in the afternoon."
Song Chen went to the orchard early in the morning and caught two old hens, and then went to the street to buy several boxes of gifts.
The weather is a little better today, so I can go out for a motorcycle ride, but it will be very cold.
"Okay, don't forget to take this pork leg to your uncle and aunt." Li Xianglian agreed readily.
In the morning, she and Song Chen went out at the same time. In addition to buying gifts for her mother's family, they also went to the butcher stall and bought two pork legs.
"I remember."
Song Chen hung the gift for the old man that he and Lin Lu had chosen in front, tied the gift to the back seat of the motorcycle, and Lin Jingbei held the pork leg.
There were a lot of things being transported today, so it became a bit crowded after Lin Lu and Lin Jingbei sat on it.
Both mother and son were dressed very fashionably, and they seemed to be from a different world from him, who was wearing a big green coat.
He also wanted to dress handsomely, but he was sitting at the front of the bike, with the cold wind blowing directly at him. He could still tell the difference between looking stylish and dying.
Lin Jingbei sat at the very back, the gift boxes blocking his way, and he muttered, "It's so crowded."
Song Chen's teeth chattered in the wind, and his cheeks seemed to be frozen: "Either hold on for a while, or ride your bike and follow."
He was blocking the wind in front and hadn't said anything yet.
Lin Jingbei shut up at the right time. He knew the difference between comfort and warmth.
But his father was very hypocritical. During the journey, he either cared about whether his mother was cold or whether it was crowded.
He asked!
Lin Lu: "I won't squeeze."
She didn't want to go there by bike.
Song Chen's jumpsuit hood was blown off and his ears were red from the cold. Lin Lu put it on him but it fell off again after a while. He could only hold it up with her hands, but her hands were also cold.
Just gave up.
But she was still very conscientious and put her woolen hat on him. She also had a hat on her clothes, and she was sitting in the middle, so she wouldn't be too cold.
Lin Jingbei: It seems that Dad is not the only one in the team anymore.
There are rows of big trees standing by the roadside, with unmelted snow on the branches and treetops. When the wind blows, the snow will fall and fly onto the heads of passers-by, and they will get drenched in the snow and turn their hair white together.
After riding for more than an hour, Song Chen's hands were all red and stiff even with gloves. When he arrived at the destination, his aunt immediately poured him hot water.
My uncle reminded me, "Put it on the stove to warm it up for a while. If you put it in the water now, your hands will get itchy."
The old couple did not eat with their sons. They lived in two small rooms in their eldest son's house and enjoyed the quietness.
The children of several cousins were all at the old couple's place. When they saw their young cousin from town coming, they were all running around excitedly like puppies.
"Uncle, aunt."
"Uncle, are you cold?"
"Your new clothes are so beautiful, little cousin."
These ones are relatively small, and the big one pulled Lin Jingbei to play sparrow hunting in the yard.
"You have such a sweet mouth." Song Chen smiled and gave each person a red envelope.
"Thank you, little cousin." The younger ones knew that their little cousin would definitely give them red envelopes, and they looked forward to his arrival every year.
"Xiaolu, sit over here. This stool is higher and should be more comfortable for you."
"Okay, thank you, aunt."
Lin Lu didn't have a deep impression of the couple. He only remembered that when he was a child, he often saw them in Song Chen's fields during the busy farming season.
When Song Zidong got married, I heard that both of them had a cold, so I didn't go.
Lin Lu hadn't seen them for many years. If she hadn't seen them in this house, she really wouldn't have recognized them if she went out.
My aunt and her husband both seem to be simple and hardworking people, without any ulterior motives and with calm and gentle personalities.
Lin Lu looked at the slightly worn shoes on her feet and said, "I bought a pair of cotton shoes for you and your uncle. Don't be reluctant to wear them. The weather is good now, so wear them more often."
She and Song Chen chose the shoes together. The ones for her aunt were bright red, and the ones for her uncle were black. Li Xianglian and her husband had already taken the ones for Lin Lu's grandparents.
Like most elderly people, my aunt is used to being frugal.
I will only wear new clothes or pants when they can no longer be worn.
For example, the pair of old shoes on her feet. My aunt has been wearing them for three or four years and is reluctant to throw them away. My cousin and his wife also bought her new ones, but she just doesn't wear them and puts them aside. She will only wear them for a while when the old ones break or when she goes to visit someone.
My second cousin said, "If Chenzi and his brothers saw you wearing these old shoes all the time, they would think we, your biological sons, were mistreating you."
Song Chen didn't think so. The old people of this generation were all the same. Li Xianglian and her husband were also like this. They were used to it.
He was once accused of making money but no longer caring about the lives of his mother-in-law and father-in-law, making them wear tattered clothes all day long, and being called an ungrateful person.
I swear to God, at that time he was not dressed much better than a beggar, and he wore the same T-shirt for several years before changing it.
