Chapter 144: Chu Xinrou's Death
"I asked you to bring Grand Tutor Sun and his men here. Where are they?" Xiao Chengming's face was full of anxiety. He frowned and looked at Jiang Heng who was rushing over.
Jiang Heng curled his lips and smiled, "Don't worry, Prince. Those ministers who disapprove of your ascension to the throne have already sent people to get it. I think it's on the way now."
Xiao Chengming was still uneasy, pacing back and forth on the jade steps, "Wenhua Hall is only a hundred meters away from here, why are your people taking so long to arrive!"
Jiang Heng's lips curled up into an arc, "The person has arrived, Your Highness."
"Here—" Xiao Chengming hurriedly turned his head to look for it, only to be hit by a splash of blood mist that flew up and splashed onto his face. The guard standing behind him collapsed at his feet, his head rolling half a circle, his eyes wide open, staring at him intently.
Soon, a riot broke out. A group of guards behind Xiao Chengming began to draw their swords and fight. Those who were killed often lost their lives before they could react.
"The nice steps are now so dirty. I wonder how much effort the palace maids and eunuchs will have to put in to clean them up." Jiang Heng sighed as he approached.
Xiao Chengming's face turned pale, "How dare you betray me! Have you forgotten that Chu Xinrou is still in my hands?"
Just at this moment, another group of people came fleeing in a panic, and among them was Chu Xinrou, who had a messy hair bun.
"Your Highness! Jiang Heng's people have rebelled!" They fled to the nearby area and were about to approach Xiao Chengming when they were caught off guard to find that the person standing next to Xiao Chengming was Jiang Heng. They were extremely angry for a moment.
"Jiang Heng, you are such an ungrateful, ambitious person! How dare you betray His Highness!"
"Let go of His Highness!"
The team saw that the great plan was about to be accomplished and they were almost able to gain the credit of following the dragon, but they didn't expect Jiang Heng to betray them halfway and kill them by surprise. Now they were all very angry and shouted and cursed.
Wang Dexing narrowed his eyes and stared at Jiang Heng. Suddenly, he grabbed Chu Xinrou, whose hands were tied behind her back, and dragged her to him amid her screams. "Jiang Heng, have you forgotten that Princess Lin Zhao's biological daughter, your long-lost sister, is in our hands?"
"It's not too late to regret now. As long as you help His Highness succeed, I will forgive your betrayal."
Xiao Chengming also suppressed the rage in his heart and whispered, "You betrayed me simply by joining forces with Zhao Yun and others. But Zhao Yun is not a royal relative, and his biological mother is a princess of the previous dynasty. Someone like him has not gained power legitimately."
"Why don't you come and help me? I promise that after the success, I will make you the King of One Word, second only to the emperor and above all others. I will never forget your merits today."
Jiang Heng reacted a little. He turned his head and his eyes fell on Xiao Chengming's face. "When did I say that I would join forces with Zhao Yun? Can't I just want this position myself?"
Jiang Heng's words were like thunder in everyone's ears. Xiao Chengming roared in disbelief, "How can you succeed to the throne? You are clearly the one who—"
But before he could finish his words, Jiang Heng grabbed his neck fiercely.
"Ugh!" Xiao Chengming's eyes bulged, his face turned purple, and his feet were lifted off the ground into the air.
"Jiang Heng! How dare you! Let Her Highness go!" Wang Dexing was anxious and grabbed Chu Xinrou's neck with one hand. "If you dare to hurt Her Highness in the slightest, I will break her neck!"
Chu Xinrou's face flushed crimson as she looked at Jiang Heng with tears streaming down her face. "Prince, please save me. I am the daughter of Princess Lin Zhao."
Jiang Heng turned around holding Xiao Chengming with one hand, looked at Chu Xinrou whose neck was being strangled, sighed softly, and suddenly threw Xiao Chengming to the ground.
Xiao Chengming covered his neck and coughed in pain. Wang Dexing was also happy. He was about to let go of Chu Xinrou, but suddenly he felt a chill in his heart.
He looked down in a daze, only to find a black arrow shooting from the sky, piercing through Chu Xinrou's chest, and now sinking into his own chest.
"Jiang Heng...she is your biological sister, how dare you kill her?" Blood foam gushed out of Wang Dexing's mouth. He could not believe until his death that the arrow was shot by Jiang Heng.
Jiang Heng put away his bow and tossed it to his subordinate. He looked down at the two men with a smile on his lips, "Don't worry, I will bury her properly with the rites for a princess."
"For a fake, it is her life's fortune to receive such a posthumous honor."
Fake?
Xiao Chengming hadn't yet recovered from the death of his teacher when his ears began to buzz from hearing these two words.
What Jiang Heng said, Chu Xinrou is fake, she is not Princess Lin Zhao's daughter, then who is Princess Lin Zhao's real daughter?
One of the two masterminds died and the other was controlled. The remaining men of Xiao Chengming were no match for Jiang Heng at all. They were like a pile of scattered sand and were left to be dealt with by Jiang Heng.
Xiao Chengming was being guarded. He watched in a daze as Jiang Heng walked towards Wenhua Hall, stepping on a pile of corpses. Suddenly, an idea struck him. He gritted his teeth and shouted, "You want to kill Zhao Yun, right?!"
"You want to take back the military power of Liang Province, so you want to take advantage of the chaos here to kill those who disobey you, including me, Zhao Yun, and even my father and my brothers, right?"
"Jiang Heng, you traitor, you deserve a horrible death. How dare you inherit the throne? You are clearly a woman—ugh!"
The rest of Xiao Chengming's words were blocked by Lin Yan stuffing a piece of rag into his mouth.
Jiang Heng paused for a moment, then continued walking forward.
When Shen Shuwei heard Jiang Heng's words that he wanted to kill Zhao Yun, he was even more shocked than when Jiang Heng said Chu Xinrou was a fake.
Her body softened and she fell against the wall of the secret passage. After a moment, she pinched her palm hard and forced herself to get up again.
No, she couldn't stop here. At least she had to find Zhao Yun and tell him about this.
Chen Shuwei crawled out of the secret passage, but before daylight came, his way was blocked by a figure.
"Sister, you've made a real mess." Jiang Heng lifted Shen Shuwei's chin and smiled when he saw her looking at him. "Sister, why are you looking at me like that? Did you hear what you said just now?"
Chen Shuwei's pupils suddenly shrank, and he took a half step back to avoid his hand. "Now that you know, are you going to kill me?"
As soon as Jiang Heng raised his hand, someone came and subdued the gray-robed secret guards and dragged them away.
He raised his eyebrows and approached Shen Shuwei, smiling in a low and ambiguous voice, "What are you talking about, sister? You and I are sisters, how could I kill you?"
Shen Shuwei pursed his lips and looked at her, his voice a little hoarse, "Do you really want to kill Zhao Yun?"
"I thought Sister would ask about my identity first." Jiang Heng tutted, his eyes amused. "Didn't Xiao Chengming say it all? I want to seize power. The Liangzhou Iron Cavalry has 100,000 men. This is a grave concern for the emperor."
"While Zhao Yun is trapped in the palace and lacks manpower, why not take the opportunity to kill him? By then, Liangzhou will be leaderless and I will be able to control it."
Chen Shuwei's eyelashes trembled slightly. After a long silence, he looked up at her and said firmly, "You won't kill him."
"Or rather, you can't kill him."
