Chapter 56: Zhao Yun's Memory

Chapter 56: Zhao Yun's Memory

Chen Shuwei came to the Taifu Mansion just to present Chen Heng's application paper. At this time, Taifu Sun praised Shen Heng's application paper highly and was obviously very satisfied.

Shen Shuwei and Shen Heng did not stay long, but bowed and left.

The doorman watched the two of them leave in an ordinary carriage, and hesitantly looked at Grand Tutor Sun, "Sir, those two were the young master and young lady of the Marquis of Jingning's residence."

The Marquis of Jingning's Mansion has been in the spotlight recently because of a flood control policy, and even the Third Prince has lowered his status to win it over.

Compared to the Jingning Marquisate, the Shen family is too inconspicuous. It's not good for the Lord to choose the Shen family and embarrass the young masters and young ladies of the Jingning Marquisate, right?

The doorman naturally didn't dare to tell the whole story, so he just mentioned it briefly.

But how could Grand Tutor Sun not understand the meaning behind his words? He snorted coldly and walked inside with the two treasures in his arms.

That's why he was a gatekeeper instead of a servant in the inner courtyard.

He knows nothing. Is it so easy to get the reward from Princess Rongyang? It's even an ancient painting by a famous artist that he hadn't even begged for before.

The Marquis of Jingning's Mansion cannot compare to the Shen family. The third Miss Shen is a powerful one.

-

On the way back home, Shen Shuwei bought two bags of almond cookies. He asked Shen Heng to give one bag to Shen Zhiyang, and took the other bag himself to find Jing Yin.

Autumn is a season of wind and rain. Some time ago, it drizzled in Luojing for several days. Jing Yin caught a cold and has not recovered yet. He coughs from time to time.

But he didn't like taking medicine. Shen Shuwei once heard Qingdai mention that she saw Jingyin secretly pouring medicine to water the flowers.

Thinking of the pots of flowers he had raised that had died for no reason, Shen Shuwei's eyes twitched slightly and he stepped into Zhao Yun's courtyard.

Shen Shuwei didn't expect that he could catch Zhao Yun in the act as soon as he entered. He was wearing a moon-white brocade robe and standing in the midst of the flourishing brocade. He looked like an angel, provided that he was not pouring medicine on the flowers.

Zhao Yun hadn't expected Shen Shuwei to come over. He stopped watering the flowers and slowly straightened the tilted bowl, placing it on the stone table beside him. His eyes curved slightly, and he looked at Shen Shuwei with a tender smile.

"Why is the girl here?"

Chen Shuwei walked to the table without any hesitation, picked up the bowl of medicine that was only half full, took a look at it, and looked at him with raised eyebrows, "What are you doing? Do you think you are recovering too quickly? Or do you feel comfortable like this now?"

Just as Zhao Yun was about to speak, he couldn't stop coughing. He put a fist to his lips and slightly arched his back.

"It's my fault. I made the young lady worried." Zhao Yun breathed a sigh of relief, his face looking sickly pale.

Shen Shuwei tested the temperature of the remaining medicine, picked up the bowl and brought it to his lips, not allowing him to argue, "Drink it."

The pungent bitter taste hit his nose, and the scene of his mother pinching his throat and forcing medicine into his mouth when he was a child swept over him like a surging wave, engulfing him.

Zhao Yun narrowed his eyes and stared at the brown medicine. A small figure was reflected on the swaying water surface. The phoenix eyes were smiling innocently. He was wearing a small jade crown and was happily holding the wooden carved puppy to find his mother.

"Bang!" The porcelain bowl broke into several pieces, the brown medicine scattered all over the ground, and the little figure trembled and disappeared.

Chen Shuwei ignored the debris on the ground and reached out to grab Zhao Yun's wrist, "Jing Yin."

Zhao Yun came back to his senses, looked at Shen Shuwei, and smiled, "Sorry, I scared the girl."

"I'll clean it up right away." Zhao Yun bent down to pick up the broken porcelain pieces, but was pulled up by Shen Shuwei, who grabbed his wrist.

Chen Shuwei shook his head at him and called a servant who was sweeping outside to come in and take care of it.

"Don't you like drinking medicine?" Shen Shuwei asked.

She originally thought that Jing Yin refused to drink because he was afraid of the bitterness, but seeing his reaction just now, things might not be as simple as she thought.

Zhao Yun looked at her, his tone gentle and warm, his words half true and half false, "When I was young, my elders forced me to take medicine because I refused to take it. I have been afraid ever since."

"It was only when I saw that bowl of medicine that I recalled this memory. I'm so sorry for being so out of line. I made you laugh."

When Shen Shuwei heard that this was a memory he had just recalled, there was a hint of inquiry in his eyes as he looked at Zhao Yun.

Did he just remember it, or did he realize he had let the cat out of the bag and was trying to justify himself?

Chen Shuwei didn't ask how much he remembered. She unwrapped the oil-paper package of the almond pastry, pinched a piece through the handkerchief and put it to his lips. "Since you can't drink the decoction, I'll ask Doctor Yun to make some pills for you to swallow with water."

He couldn't even not take the pills, because if that happened she would have to blindfold him, cover his nose, and force him to swallow them.

Zhao Yun lowered his head and took a small bite of the almond cake from Shen Shuwei's hand, narrowing his eyes in satisfaction, "Sorry to bother you, young lady."

Sweet.

Chen Shuwei glanced at the small tooth marks on the almond pastry with some disgust.

The marks left by the rats were deeper than his own.

Seeing Shen Shuwei looking at her, Zhao Yun blinked innocently, her long eyelashes trembling, like a small brush gently scratching Shen Shuwei's heart.

Watching Zhao Yun lower his head again and take another small bite of the almond pastry, Shen Shuwei let out a soft click of his tongue.

Zhao Yun paused while chewing the cake, raised his eyelids and looked at Chen Shuwei.

Is he - being disliked by the young lady?

Zhao Yun stood up slowly. "If you find it troublesome to prepare the pills, I can drink the decoction."

Zhao Yun's eyes curved slightly, but what he said made Shen Shuwei blush.

"As long as the girl is willing to serve me like I served you sweet water, that will be fine."

Shen Shu's hand trembled slightly, and the whole piece of almond cake was stuffed into Zhao Yun's mouth.

"Huh?" Zhao Yun raised his eyebrows in surprise.

The lady is really enthusiastic.

"You eat first, I'll go see Ayang." Chen Shuwei held Zhao Yun's hand and took the almond cake, then quickly withdrew his hand.

Looking at Shen Shuwei who was almost fleeing in panic, Zhao Yun's lips curled up slowly, pinching the almond cake and eating it slowly. It was a bit bitter.

-

Shen Shuwei's saying that going to see Shen Zhiyang was naturally an excuse. She just didn't want to stay with Zhao Yun any longer.

But since she had said it, she still went there.

Shen Zhiyang was sitting under the grape trellis, happily eating almond cakes. Next to her sat Shen Heng, who had no choice but to pour tea for her.

"Eat slowly, so you don't choke."

Shen Zhiyang took the scented tea and raised his head, and saw Shen Shuwei standing at the gate of the courtyard. His eyes lit up, and he dropped the cakes and flew into Shen Shuwei's arms like a butterfly in the flowers.

"Third sister, why are you here? Are you missing Ayang? Ayang misses you." Shen Zhiyang shook her head and buried it in Shen Shuwei's arms for a while, then raised her face and stared at her with bright eyes, "It just so happens that my eldest brother and I are discussing how to celebrate your birthday in two days. Third sister, come quickly and listen together!"

Birthday? Shen Shuwei subconsciously looked at Shen Heng, and when he saw him giving her a helpless yet doting smile, she knew that they had wanted to keep it a secret and give her a surprise, but unfortunately Ayang had let it slip.

In her previous life at the Marquis of Jingning's Mansion, her birthday was celebrated by the kitchen simply by having them cook a bowl of longevity noodles and some festive dishes. If Ji Jinglan remembered her, she would give her a small piece of jewelry. If she didn't remember, Qingdai and Yunling would accompany her.

However, since Chu Xinrou returned home, no one in the mansion has celebrated her birthday. Everyone is busy holding a grand celebration for Chu Xinrou.

Her birthday and Chu Xinrou's birthday are only three days apart.
