Chapter 45 The Old Man is Back

The old man clearly didn't expect his second son to do such a thing, and for a moment he couldn't control his temper.

"The second son must have been instigated by a villain. Lao Bai, you know the second son's temper. He would never do something like this!" The second mother knew that she couldn't argue at this time. Shifting the blame was the best way to save her life.

Although she had never actually come into contact with a top-tier wealthy family like the Bai family, she guessed that such families were probably all over the world, and that saying they would collect the second son's body was definitely not a joke.

My own grand ambitions haven't been realized yet, so the second son absolutely cannot be allowed to get into trouble.

Upon hearing his second wife's words, the old man began to make excuses for his second son. After calming down, he started to think about whether or not he should go back.

Besides his strained relationship with his mother, there is actually an even more important reason why he hasn't returned to China all these years.

Abroad, the eldest son of the Bai family can't really do anything to himself.

However, once back in China, the situation might not be so easily under his control.

The old man actually preferred not to go back, but he couldn't resist his second aunt's persistent pleading, and he was really worried about the second son of the Bai family, so he gritted his teeth and agreed.

Three days later, a plane flew to City A, and the Bai family naturally received the news that the old man was coming back. They all waited at the old house that day.

The old lady sat at the head of the table with a cold face, looking down at the large family below.

Bai Qingzhi sat to her left, a privilege that none of her uncles and aunts received.

Bai Lian glared resentfully at her cousin, but her father had already told her at home that she just needed to endure it for a little longer.

Bai Lian glanced at the sky, then lowered her head, trying to hide her thoughts.

Bai Fan sat at the back of the Bai family compound, trying to minimize his own presence.

Her mother kept gesturing with her elbow for her to try and please the old lady, but Bai Fan ignored her.

Bai Fan's mother was somewhat angry at her son's lack of ambition and turned to look at the third son of the Bai family.

Bai Laosan was also a little angry. Sure enough, this girl was unreliable!

He reached out and took his wife's hand, then reassured her that she could rest assured.

"When the old man comes back, all of you should keep quiet and not cause any trouble," the old lady said, her tone carrying a warning.

The servants quickly agreed. Seeing the old lady chatting with Bai Qingzhi, Bai Laosan frowned and looked at his daughter with displeasure.

She had planned everything out and successfully got the Xiao family to invite her to dinner, but to her surprise, Bai Fan refused outright when she returned.

He didn't give a reason, but he said he absolutely refused to go to the Xiao family again, and that if he dared to act as a go-between again, he would die in front of him!

Bai Laosan narrowed his eyes as he looked at his daughter, and then another plan popped into his mind.

Bai Fan kept his head down, but he could still feel the calculating look in his parents' eyes.

Quickly calculating in her mind, Bai Fan knew that her parents were profit-driven people, and if she didn't do something, she would eventually become their tool.

Looking up at Bai Qingzhi, a thought flashed in Bai Fan's eyes, and he finally gritted his teeth.

"Eldest son, your second brother shouldn't be moved for now," the old lady whispered to her son.

Mr. Bai disagreed. He was all ready and just waiting for the order to act, but his mother told him that Bai Lao Er could not move.

What about the injustices suffered by your own daughter?

Seemingly sensing her son's thoughts, the old lady sighed and continued:

"The most important thing now is to keep your father calm. You can take revenge whenever you want."

Mr. Bai wanted to argue, but was stopped by Mrs. Bai.

"Listen to Mom." The reason why Bai's mother was able to maintain her position as the mistress of the house was not because of Bai's father's affection; she was a wise woman in herself.

Furthermore, she felt that the old lady was more shrewd than herself, and there must be a reason why she made such a request.

The Bai family was very excited, knowing that their mother had returned with their grandfather.

And last night, my mother told them the good news, which means that as long as the old man comes back, he can really turn his life around.

"What's with the pretense of being high and mighty? She's still doing everything for her husband." Bai Lian's mother muttered viciously to herself.

What she said was exactly what the old lady thought. In her mind, the old lady was only trying to get her husband's forgiveness by being so submissive.

The old man had already gotten off the plane and was sitting in the car watching the scenery rushing past, feeling deeply moved.

Before I knew it, it had been almost ten years since I last came back.

I couldn't help but think of the old lady. The two were the first couple. Although they were introduced, they had gone through many difficult times together.

A pang of guilt involuntarily rose in my heart.

"Old Bai, try this. I brought it from abroad. You've always been used to eating it." Second Aunt smiled gently and handed the old man a pickled plum she had made herself.

The guilt he felt just moments before vanished in an instant, and the old man smiled.

The car slowly drove into the old house. The servants of the Bai family stood respectfully in two rows, and the Bai family members also waited at the door.

Bai Qingzhi held the old lady's hand, and when the old man appeared, she clearly felt that her grandmother's grip tightened a bit.

"Grandma..." Bai Qingzhi felt a pang of heartache.

After all, no woman can remain indifferent when she sees her husband openly showing up with another woman.

"Grandma is alright." The old lady smiled, as if her earlier outburst was just an illusion.

The second son of the Bai family became even more excited when they saw his mother and father. They raised their feet and wanted to rush over, but his second mother stopped them with a gesture.

"Come inside and have dinner now that you're back," the old lady said calmly as she stepped forward.

The old man didn't answer, but the second aunt stepped forward and replied with a smile:

"Sister is so thoughtful. Lao Bai has hardly eaten anything along the way. Usually, he would have finished his midnight snack by now."

The old lady remained expressionless. Bai Qinghuan narrowed her eyes slightly, then turned to look at the old lady and asked earnestly:

"Grandma, is this your sister? I've never heard you mention that I have a great-aunt."

The smile on my second aunt's face froze instantly.

“Grandma is an only child, she has no sisters. This is Grandpa’s concubine… no, I should call her Second Concubine. It’s normal that you don’t know this since you just got back.” Bai Qingzhi smiled sweetly, without any hint of sarcasm.

The second aunt's chest heaved rapidly; she felt nauseous.

"Brother, is this how you raise your daughter?" Bai Lao Er said angrily, stepping forward to criticize.

Bai's father did not answer. Upon hearing this, Bai Qingzhi immediately looked at her second uncle, and her eyes quickly reddened.

"Second Uncle, I'm sorry, I misspoke. Actually, this is Grandpa's god-sister."

The old man's face was now ashen, and he slammed his cane on the ground.

Bai Qingzhi seemed frightened and released the old lady's hand, kneeling straight down on the ground.

"Grandpa, don't be angry. It was your granddaughter who was ignorant and said the wrong thing." She said this while crying, tears streaming down her face.
