He Jing remained silent for a long while before meeting his gaze, her eyes extremely serious: "Even so, I still have to take Fifth Brother and Sixth Brother back with me."
He Zhou's expression changed, bordering on anger.
He Jing walked towards the woman who had just spoken.
The stall was filthy, and apart from the enticing aroma of the grilled meat, it was filled with grease and smoke. The woman served customers with a smile, a stark contrast to her demeanor when she reprimanded He Yi and He Chen.
She was an overweight woman wearing a large apron and sleeves, and sneakers.
She had a QR code for easy payment hanging around her neck, and her movements as she opened a beer were fluid and graceful.
This is their aunt—Qian Lizhen.
She turned around, saw He Jing, and smiled broadly: "Beautiful lady, what would you like to eat?"
He Jing picked up the fruit she had bought on her way there and said, "Hello, Auntie. It's a pleasure to visit you. Let me introduce myself. I'm He Jing."
Upon hearing this, Qian Lizhen's face fell instantly. She then scrutinized He Jing from head to toe with a critical gaze before putting on a fake smile and saying, "Oh, you're the niece who was switched at birth. You're really beautiful."
He Jing cut to the chase: "Aunt, could Fifth Brother and Sixth Brother come home with me?"
Qian Lizhen froze, squinted and looked her up and down, then ignored her and looked straight past her to He Zhou who was walking behind her. She regained her enthusiasm: "Third brother, you're here too. Oh, you've come at the right time. Your aunt is busy with business here. You can stay at your aunt's house tonight and don't go back."
He Zhou said with a dark face, "Aunt, I came to take the fifth and sixth children away. They have their monthly exams coming up soon, and if they don't study hard, they will fall behind."
Upon hearing this, Qian Lizhen couldn't help but burst into a tirade: "I thought you came here out of kindness to help us, but it turns out you've come here to collect debts. You eat and drink at our house every few days, and then you want to leave after you've had your fill? There's no such thing as a free lunch."
"With your He family's financial situation, if it weren't for my constant support, you would have starved to death long ago. What's the use of good grades? How much money can you earn in the future? You might as well drop out of school and come sell barbecue for me. What kind of future do you have?"
Instantly, He Zhou's face turned frighteningly ugly.
Qian Lizhen's voice was so loud that the surrounding customers put down their chopsticks and turned to look at her.
This was the first time He Jing had ever been angry since she arrived, and she snapped, "What did you say?!"
Her eyes were extremely cold.
Qian Lizhen was inexplicably frightened and took a step back, stammering, "You... I'm your aunt, do you want to hit me?"
He Jing was afraid of getting her hands dirty if she hit her, so she didn't say a word, turned around and went to the charcoal stove, snatched the fan from He Yi's hand and the roasted meat from He Chen's hand and threw them down.
Qian Lizhen's blood boiled, and she screamed as she rushed forward: "You little bitch, what are you doing!"
This shout caused He Yi and He Chen to change their expressions, and they quickly shielded He Jing behind them.
Unable to reach He Jing, Qian Lizhen resorted to cursing and kicking, behaving like a complete shrew.
The barbecue diners pointed at them and whispered among themselves, and several tables of customers who had just sat down quietly went to other barbecue restaurants.
Just when the situation seemed to be getting out of hand, a man in a vest, looking disheveled, came over carrying a styrofoam box filled with barbecue meat. He looked fierce and asked, "What's going on?"
Qian Lizhen, the villain, accused first: "What else could it be? These little brats are just bored and want to slack off and rebel."
