The boy gave a smiling look, his mind seemingly wandering. After a while, he said, "Hey, it's rare for you to eat out. How can I let your sister treat me? Since we've run into each other by chance, I'll treat you."
The He family has always disliked accepting kindness from others without reason, and He Ning is even more so. He immediately distanced himself from him, saying, "No need, I'm her brother, it's nothing for her to treat me to noodles."
The boy reached out and patted He Ning's arm across the table, smiling warmly as he said, "We're like family, no need to be so polite. It's my treat."
He Ning's beautiful brows furrowed slightly. Ultimately, she wasn't good at refusing others. After a moment of silence, she said, "Thank you."
The boy immediately ran to pay the bill, ordered a bowl of noodles for himself, and sat down opposite the two of them to eat it happily. He said, "I also paid for your sister's noodles. It's our first time meeting, and I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Guan Chen."
He Jing smiled slightly, seeing through his thoughts but not exposing them, and only asked, "Hello Guan Chen, I heard that you and my brother are on the same basketball team. How is my brother doing at school? Has the coach scolded him?"
“Your brother is amazing. He’s hardworking, and the coach always praises him and tells us to take him as a role model.”
...
The two chatted amiably, exchanging words back and forth.
It was supposed to be a pleasant morning, but it became annoying because of someone's interference. He Ning put her chopsticks down on her bowl and said indifferently, "I'm full."
He Jing turned her head and saw that although he had eaten most of his noodles, some of them were still submerged in the soup, with a little bit of white showing.
He Jing knew how frugal He Ning usually was, so she asked with surprise, "Second Brother, aren't you going to eat?"
He Ning gave a nonchalant nasal sound and said, "Go to school early so you can start preparing for class early."
He Jing had no objections. She had already learned a lot about He Ning from Guan Chen, which gave her a little more insight into He Ning.
Guan Chen was a little annoyed that her conversation with He Jing had been abruptly interrupted. She sighed twice and said, "Isn't there a need to be in such a hurry?"
He Ning had already walked out.
Left with no other choice, Guan Chen quickly finished his noodles and, together with He Ning, escorted He Jing to the entrance of Yin Gao.
As soon as He Jing entered the school gate, Guan Chen put his arm around He Ning's neck. His eyes were still fixed on He Jing's back as he stared at her longingly. He laughed and said, "He Ning, your sister is so pretty! Can you play matchmaker for us? I'll pay for all your breakfasts from now on."
He Ning shook him off unhappily and ignored him. Guan Chen quickly caught up with her and kept nagging, "Don't be upset. What do you want? Name your conditions, and I'll agree to anything."
He Ning stopped abruptly, turned around sharply, and stared intently at him with a pair of eyes as black as cold stars: "What do you like about her?"
"ah?"
Guan Chen was taken aback and didn't understand for a moment.
He Ning asked again, "Do you know what kind of person she is? Do you know what her ranking is in school? Do you know what she likes and dislikes to eat? Do you know what size clothes and shoes she wears?"
Guan Chen was speechless after being bombarded with questions, looking embarrassed and sullen. Then, in a joking tone, he said, "He Ning, you don't have to take this so seriously. I was just kidding."
"Here's the money for the noodles. We won't know each other well anymore." He Ning took out more than twenty yuan from his pocket, stuffed it into his hand, and turned to leave.
Guan Chen was stunned for a moment. He Ning seemed aloof, but he rarely lost his temper at school. He stood there for a long time before he came back to his senses. Then, staring at He Ning's departing figure, he muttered to himself, "So what if she has a pretty younger sister? There are plenty of pretty younger sisters out there. I'm not afraid of not finding one."
