He Xiaoguo immediately ran to the bedside and opened the drawer, and to her surprise, she found a drawer full of fruit candies.
He Jing's lips twitched slightly: "Aren't you afraid I'll get cavities?"
Yan Han chuckled: "These candies weren't originally intended for you. I hired a nanny who lives downstairs, and she'll make you something to eat when you're hungry. The maid asked me when she was cleaning that the drawer was so empty, and if I wanted to put something in it. I thought about it, and roses will wither, but candies have a three-month shelf life, so you can have a couple if you're feeling peckish."
He Jing's brow twitched, and she remained silent for a moment: "Thank you for your thoughtfulness."
Yan Hanxi said, "Will Xiaoguo sleep with you or with me tonight? The house is too big, I'm afraid he'll be scared sleeping alone."
He Jing turned her gaze directly to He Xiaoguo, seeking his opinion.
He Xiaoguo took a piece of fruit candy, looked at it, and put it down. Noticing He Jing's gaze, he turned around and said softly, "I'm going to sleep with Brother Yan Hanxi. Xiaoguo is too big now. It might not be convenient for Sister to sleep with me."
He Jing felt a warmth in her heart and did not object. She walked over, squatted down, peeled a candy, and put it into He Xiaoguo's mouth, saying gently, "Remember to think of your sister first if anything happens."
He Xiaoguo nodded emphatically and gave He Jing a quick kiss on the cheek.
Yan Hanxi stared at He Jing's face for a moment, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down before he looked away.
After dinner and a day of rest, Yan Hanxi took He Jing and He Xiaoguo to the ski resort the next day.
Although the ski resort is located under Yan Hanxi's manor, it is not privately owned. Early in the morning, many people, fully equipped, were competing on the ski slopes.
The steep snow slopes became a competition arena, where many fair-skinned, high-nosed foreigners showed off their skills up and down the slopes. Whenever something exciting happened, enthusiastic cheers and laughter would erupt from the snow.
He Xiaoguo was very tempted from afar, so Yan Hanxi bought him children's ski equipment and took him and He Jing to the beginner area.
The ski resort wasn't just for expert skiers; there were also many beginners who kept slipping and falling, which looked quite comical and made He Xiaoguo giggle.
Perhaps infected by He Xiaoguo's laughter, the skier who had fallen got up from the ground, waved to He Xiaoguo, and smiled warmly.
He Xiaoguo turned to He Jing and asked, "Sister, can we go skate with him?"
He Jing looked at Yan Hanxi, and Yan Hanxi nodded.
Fortunately, the Canadian also spoke English, so He Jing had no trouble communicating with the foreign man. She expressed her friendliness to him and explained her purpose.
The foreign guy flashed a bright white smile: "Of course."
So, the three of them went from skiing to four.
Yan Hanxi taught the foreign guy, and He Jing taught He Xiaoguo. When He Xiaoguo learned to glide forward slowly while supporting herself with ski poles, the foreign guy finally learned to maintain his balance.
As they groped their way forward, supporting each other, they glided a short distance. He Xiaoguo, her face full of excitement, smiled at He Jing from afar.
The foreign guy tried to communicate with He Xiaoguo, speaking a string of English. He Xiaoguo replied with the few words she had learned in elementary school: "My name is Xiaoguo."
The foreign guy slowed down his speech: "My name is Racheal."
Thus, a friendship that transcended age was formed.
He Xiaoguo didn't understand much English, so the foreign guy said a few more words, but when he realized he couldn't understand, he switched to sign language.
Strangely enough, He Xiaoguo could understand his random gestures, and the two communicated without any problems.
In the snow, the only ones who were idle were Yan Hanxi and He Jing. They watched He Xiaoguo and Racheal for a while, and only when they saw that they got along well did they feel relieved.
Then Yan Hanxi said, "Shall we go skiing too?"
