This was practically a blatant threat, but for some reason, He Jing fell for it. Hearing the flirtatious words whispered in her ear, He Jing blushed involuntarily.
She muttered, "Saying things like 'I think' is a bit... absurd..."
Yan Hanxi said, "Then you can answer yes or no."
He Jing had already put on her shoes, took out her phone, opened the door, and sent a somewhat unclear message the instant the door closed.
Yan Hanxi gave a sullen laugh.
He heard it.
"Good student, your shyness remains as strong as ever."
"I'm not shy, don't talk nonsense."
Xi Xi followed He Jing out the door.
It bit the dog leash that was dragging on the ground, making He Jing pull up one end of the leash.
He Jing took his hand and they got off the elevator.
She headed straight for Yan Hanxi and finally saw the tall and slender boy under a bright street lamp. The boy had messy, tousled hair that covered his eyebrows and eyelids, giving him a rebellious and unrestrained air unique to delinquents. Fortunately, he had no stubble and was still very neat.
When he saw He Jing walking a dog, he was stunned for a moment. The hug he had envisioned turned into a mirage amidst the barking of the dog.
Yan Hanxi didn't even have time to ask He Jing if he was cold. He raised an eyebrow and stared at Xixi on the ground, who looked at him like he was an enemy. If she hadn't been on a leash, she would have come up and bitten him a couple of times. He asked, "Good student, what's this?"
He Jing tugged at Xi Xi to stop it from being so arrogant, lest it anger Yan Hanxi and be caught by him to make dog meat soup.
She replied, "This is a dog my third brother bought for me, its name is... Xixi."
Yan Hanxi's expression instantly turned strange. He looked at the dog, then at He Jing, and after a long while smiled slightly: "I didn't expect the model student to miss me so much? Seeing this reminds me of you, huh?"
He Jing was mortified: "It's the 'Xi' in 'bustling and noisy,' not your 'Xi.' It's all a misunderstanding."
Yan Hanxi squatted down and tried to touch the dog, which had temporarily stopped barking, and called out, "Erxi."
Xi Xi stared warily at the "enemy" for a moment, then quickly dodged his hand and slipped behind He Jing.
It seemed to want He Jing to back it up and let He Jing confront Yan Hanxi, and even rubbed its dog face against He Jing's calf as encouragement.
He Jing was even more embarrassed: "What the hell is Er Xi? Yan Han Xi, don't be crazy."
Yan Hanxi remained noncommittal, looked up at the moon, and said, "Such a nice day, shall we take a walk?"
He Jing was speechless. It was almost dawn, the moon was waning, who would walk their dog in the middle of the night? They must be crazy... But she still followed Yan Hanxi out of the neighborhood and strolled slowly along the empty streets.
She said, "Just take a short walk. When you see the hotel, go in. You have class tomorrow."
Yan Hanxi snorted: "Fine."
Then, He Jing asked, "Where have you been all this time?"
Yan Hanxi chuckled silently.
The past is too painful to recall; just looking back makes one want to cry.
He avoided the topic: "My dad threw me to a place that's really far away. If I stay at a hotel near your house, do you think we can go to school together tomorrow?"
He Jing hesitated for a moment, then said, "Indeed."
Now, He Yuan takes her to school every day, or they ride in the little pink scooter that He Ning and He Sui bought together. Sometimes He Ning takes her, sometimes He Sui takes her. In short, he doesn't let her be single.
Yan Hanxi was in a great mood: "Then I'll take you back."
Anyway, we're going to school together tomorrow, so there's no need to cherish this little bit of time. I bet his brothers-in-law will have very interesting expressions when they see him.
