When Zhou Jiyun returned to the bedroom after finishing his call on the balcony, he saw Xie Jing leaning against the wardrobe, staring blankly at the clothes that didn't fit her. From princess dresses from her childhood to all kinds of skirts and pants, the wardrobe was filled to the brim.
I opened the drawer in the wardrobe and found some small jewelry inside, including the sparkling butterfly hairpins that little girls love. The styles became simpler and more elegant as the drawers went on.
There aren't many small pieces of jewelry, only about twenty or thirty.
Zhou Jiyun hugged her from behind: "Are you worried about your parents?"
"Yeah," Xie Jing nodded slightly. "I was wondering what kind of mood they were in when they bought these clothes and jewelry. When I think about how they were waiting for my return with great anticipation and have been looking for me all these years, I feel sad."
"I wonder if we could have lasted this long if it were us?"
Zhou Jiyun was very determined: "There will be no such thing between us. I will take good care of you and protect our baby. It is really sad to see my parents like this."
Xie Jing fiddled with the small jewellery in the drawer. "I say I don't care about Xie Xuerong and Liu Limin, but it's like what Grandma Cheng said: what child doesn't admire their parents?"
"I once longed for their affection. Before I was ten, I was also sad and upset. I even felt resentful, resentful of why they didn't love and care for me."
"Now I understand why I would feel so bad if the child wasn't my own. It turns out this is what it feels like to be loved by my parents. It's so touching that I want to cry."
Zhou Jiyun hugged her and said, "So I'm really glad. Jingjing, your parents have been thinking about you all these years. Was all my worrying in vain before?"
"How could that be?" Xie Jing leaned closer to Zhou Jiyun's chest: "I know you are worried about me. I never think your worry is in vain, because I see it with my own eyes and remember it in my heart."
"I know you're doing this for my own good, and that's enough."
Zhou Jiyun turned her around in his arms: "That's great, now the evildoer will be punished, and you have found your parents. I am happy for you."
Xie Jing hugged him: "They are also your parents. In my heart, you are the most important."
"Although it may seem a bit cold of me to say this, as if I've let them down for all these years of waiting." Xie Jing was very rational: "But relationships require time to grow. We've only just met. How can we develop deep feelings in just a few days?"
"Besides, I'm not the kind of little girl who acts like a spoiled brat. I can't do that. I'm just a very cold person." Xie Jing sighed and said, "When I saw these clothes and jewelry, I wondered if my parents would be disappointed with me."
"No," Zhou Jiyun retorted, "My Jingjing is the most soft-hearted girl in the world."
"I won't dwell on who you like more, me or your parents. I won't ask you to make a choice, and I won't embarrass you. That's what a fool would do, and it will only push you further away."
"And I also think your parents will never let you down. As parents, they naturally accept everything about their children, regardless of their strengths or weaknesses. Besides, I think you're doing great."
"You grew up wildly in an environment where no one cared about you, but you became both outstanding and upright, decisive, and frank. You are truly a very good person, and I really love your character."
Even though Zhou Jiyun could be a bit snarky at times, he understood the underlying reason. Not embarrassing the people you love was paramount. He wouldn't get into a fight with Yun Lan or Cheng Shuying; that would only leave Xie Jing caught in the middle.
Xie Jing was amused by him: "Am I so outstanding in your eyes? I always thought I was ordinary."
Zhou Jiyun helped her sit down on the bed, and he half-knelt beside the bed, looking up at her, and began to list Xie Jing's various advantages one by one: "I just think you are very good. Not to mention your appearance, everyone can see that you are very beautiful."
"Although your personality is a bit cold, that's only towards outsiders. Look how gentle you are to me? You always favor me. From the time we got married until now, you've always stood firmly by my side."
"I am also kind-hearted and willing to volunteer at a stray animal rescue center whenever I have time."
Yun Lan and Cheng Shuying leaned against the stairs, quietly listening to the conversation. They hadn't been eavesdropping on purpose; Cheng Shuying had gone up to get Xie Jing a glass of milk and hadn't returned, so he'd come up to see what was going on.
Zhou Jiyun continued inside: "Although you are a few years younger than me and still in school, you really do a great job as my wife. Every time we go to a banquet, you always behave very well."
"Besides all that, Jingjing, you've done really well in your career. You were forced to choose an art major you didn't like, but you were still able to continue with it and achieve excellent results."
"This is not easy. Many people will do their best for what they love, but it is obviously more difficult to do well in something you don't like."
"And you're so talented. You can play various instruments, write lyrics, and compose music..."
Xie Jing had to interrupt him: "My arrangement is just average."
Zhou Jiyun said seriously: "You are excellent, even if your flaws do not outweigh your merits. When I think that such an outstanding woman is my wife, I am very happy and honored."
Yun Lan, who was outside the room, spat softly, "Flatterer."
Cheng Shuying glanced at him and asked, "Can you speak?"
Yun Lan shut up awkwardly. He admitted that he was jealous. In Xie Jing's heart, Zhou Jiyun was the first. But he knew rationally that Xie Jing was right because their parents came later.
Cheng Shuying was in a good mood. She wasn't as childish as Yunlan. Yunlan was reluctant to marry his daughter off, a reflection of his fatherly mentality. But she wasn't like that. On the contrary, the more she looked at Zhou Jiyun, the more she liked him.
In the bedroom, Xie Jing held Zhou Jiyun's cheek and said, "You are also very good. Before I found my parents, you were the best to me."
Zhou Jiyun rubbed Xie Jing's palm: "You are the one I have been thinking about, so of course I have to be good to you, and only to you."
Xie Jing touched his hair: "I will treat you well too."
"Go to bed early. You've been through quite a big shock today."
Zhou Jiyun stood up: "I'm going to wash up, how about we go together?"
Xie Jing pushed him and said, "Shame on you!"
Yun Lan knew that what followed was not suitable for them to hear. He took the milk from Cheng Shuying's tray and drank it all in one gulp. "Come on, let's go downstairs. This kid is really good at pretending to be pitiful."
Cheng Shuying followed him slowly: "I remember that you often acted pitiful back then. How can you say that to Jiyun?"
