Chapter 59: Playing games is fun only when there are prizes

Zhou Jiwen stood up: "Dad, don't worry. Grandpa, let me show Yaozhi around?"

Mr. Zhou wasn't the kind of feudal, authoritarian patriarch. Hearing this, he simply waved his hand and said, "Go ahead. Just remember to come over for dinner."

When facing Xie Jing, the old man was eager to fight: "Jingjing, let's play a game?"

Xie Jing also smiled, her eyes full of fighting spirit: "Okay, I even studied the chess manual when I returned this time."

Zhou Jiyun couldn't help coughing twice. He wisely chose not to get involved in their "battle": "I'll go to the kitchen to see if there's anything I can help with."

Two bad chess players collided with each other, but both still had mysterious confidence in themselves. The scene was so beautiful that Zhou Jiyun couldn't even imagine it.

Soon, a conversation was heard in the living room: "Is your horse a thousand-mile horse?"

"I've defeated you three times, and you still refuse to admit defeat."

"No, the last step doesn't count! Try again!"

"Grandpa, it seems like you're regretting every move you make... I want to regret it too!"

Zhou Jiyun smiled and shook his head, his eyes filled with nostalgia as he watched this scene. Ever since Xie Jing's accident, this scene had only appeared in his memories. Now, the two of them sat in a corner of the living room, facing each other, fighting over the chessboard until their heads were broken and bloodied, neither willing to retreat first.

But they are both very confident in themselves...

In Zhou Jiyun's eyes, this scene was incredibly beautiful.

"Jiyun? Why are you crying?" Aunt Yun had just set up the soup-making program when she saw Zhou Jiyun's eyes were red, and she couldn't help but ask with concern.

Zhou Jiyun quickly came back to his senses and blinked: "I was so moved when I saw this scene."

Grandpa and Xie Jing are both by his side, and they are both healthy.

Aunt Yun seemed to be half-believing: "That's right. Although Jingjing looks cold, she actually has a really good personality. Whenever she comes back, your grandfather happily eats half an extra bowl of rice at every meal."

"He was also very patient, playing chess with the old man and would sit there for an hour or two."

"The housekeeper had long been reluctant to play chess with your grandfather. Jingjing's return completely liberated him."

Aunt Yun rambled on about how everyone had changed since Xie Jing returned to the old house. Zhou Jiyun's smile grew wider as he listened. "Jingjing is just a cold exterior, but a warm heart. She really has a good personality."

Zhou Jiyun wanted to help in the kitchen, but was eventually pushed out by Aunt Yun. Zhou Jiyun had no choice but to carry the teapot and serve tea to the old man and Xie Jing.

He didn't dare look at the chessboard, for fear that he would lose control and break down. Later, Zhou Jiyun simply sat beside Xie Jing, like a dog guarding its food, with his right hand supporting Xie Jing's back, although he didn't hold hands with Xie Jing and hug her.

But this posture vaguely implies that Xie Jing is completely incorporated into his territory.

The old man glanced at him over his reading glasses and saw that he looked very pleased. He couldn't help but snort. He was also a fashionable old man, and it was definitely not because the defeat was inevitable. So the old man threw the chess piece on the board and said, "I don't want to play anymore. I'm going to talk to Lao Zhong."

Xie Jing looked at the chessboard. It had come to the last move, but the old man was cheating and didn't want to play anymore?

"Grandpa, please don't go, we..."

Zhou Jiyun held her hand and said, "Grandpa and Butler Zhong have something to talk about. Can I play with you?"

Xie Jing was not interested: "Grandpa said you are good at chess, I have no interest in being abused."

How could Xie Jing not know her own level? She was only somewhat confident in front of Grandpa Zhou. In front of others, Xie Jing never said she could play chess.

Zhou Jiyun began to set a trap for Xie Jing: "We don't play chess. We have Go at home. We play the simplest Gomoku."

Xie Jing admitted that she was indeed tempted: "I'm pretty good at Gobang. Are you sure you want to play with me?"

Zhou Jiyun shrugged. "Of course. I've never played Go in a row before. Jingjing, can you give me a break?"

Xie Jing remained cautious: "Are you really only playing Gobang?"

After receiving Zhou Jiyun's affirmative answer, Xie Jing rolled her eyes and said, "You have to have a stake when playing games. Otherwise, even if you win, it's meaningless."

It was easy to understand what Xie Jing was thinking. Zhou Jiyun chuckled softly. He sat down across from Xie Jing and slowly put away the chess set. He then pulled out a set of Go from below. "So, what do you want, Jingjing?"

Xie Jing said without hesitation: "Well... then the loser must agree to one condition of the winner."

Zhou Jiyun raised his eyebrows slightly: "Really? Isn't that too harsh? Jingjing, I've never played..."

Xie Jing was almost overwhelmed by joy and didn't notice the subtle smile on Zhou Jiyun's face. "No need, I think this is a great prize. Just tell me if you want to play or not!"

Zhou Jiyun lowered his eyes, and Xie Jing saw the red mole on his eyelid flash by. Then Zhou Jiyun smiled: "Okay, Jingjing rarely speaks, so I will accompany you to the end."

Xie Jing felt a slight chill on her back, but when she thought about the Gobang results on her phone, and then remembered that Zhou Jiyun said he had never played Gobang, Xie Jing's back immediately straightened.

She must win the prize today!

Seeing through Xie Jing's ambition, Zhou Jiyun just chuckled twice. Sometimes he felt that he was too mean. He was the one digging the hole, but when he saw the little white rabbit unconsciously walked to the edge of the hole, he had to shovel two more shovels of dirt.

He felt a little guilty just thinking about it, but when he thought about the chances of victory, Zhou Jiyun's subtle sense of guilt immediately disappeared.

"You lost again," Xie Jing wrinkled her nose in satisfaction after another five-star streak. "You've lost six games in a row, which means you have to agree to my six requests. Are you sure you want to play?"

Zhou Jiyun's expression remained calm: "Of course, I'm learning slowly. Maybe I'll win the next round?"

Xie Jing was still trying to be kind: "You're talking like a gambler, hoping for a comeback in the next round. How about we just call it a day? Don't worry, I won't make it difficult for you. I'm sure these are all requests you can do."

Zhou Jiyun smiled and said, "No, I just don't admit defeat. Let's play another round?"

Xie Jing waved her hand: "Okay, then I'll play another round with you."

In just this one game, the situation took a dramatic turn. Xie Jing looked at the densely packed black and white pieces on the chessboard, then at Zhou Jiyun across from her: "Are you...sure you really don't know how to play?"

Zhou Jiyun raised his eyebrows and leaned forward slightly, his upper body slightly apart from Xie Jing's face. "I'm sure this is really the first time I've played this, and I won by a narrow margin. I almost lost."

Xie Jing bit her lip, still a little stunned. She held the record for the best Gomoku game on her phone, and now she was beaten by someone who had never played Gomoku before? Who could stand that?

"Let's play another round!"

"One more round!"

"How did you win again?"
