The door slammed to the ground with a bang, making the temperature inside the room even more scorching. Cheng Muyun immediately saw the figure lying on the ground and rushed over.
But then, suddenly there was a loud bang, and the window exploded due to the sudden increase in temperature.
Then the open door and window created a convection current, and the flames instantly rushed in, engulfing everything inside.
Chen Hede grabbed Cheng Muyun and pinned him down.
A violent explosion, scorching temperatures, and flames relentlessly engulfed everything.
After the explosion subsided, Cheng Muyun endured the pain and struggled to look up. The people lying on the ground were now charred corpses!
He shouted sharply, "No! Zhuohua!"
Cheng Muyun pushed Chen Hede away, crawled to Xu Zhuohua's side, and dug his fingers into the floor, leaving a trail of blood.
But no matter how he called out, the person in his arms could not give him any response.
Her skin had become one with her clothes, but the emerald necklace around her neck shone even brighter in the flames.
Cheng Muyun held the person in his arms as if he had lost his soul, repeatedly repeating Xu Zhuohua's name.
Chen Hede got up from the ground, reached out and touched the sticky liquid on his face, and found that his hand was covered in blood. He wiped his hand hastily on his fireproof suit, and then looked at the person in Cheng Muyun's arms.
Cardiac arrest!
He slowly crawled over, looking at the charred, unrecognizable corpse, tears streaming down his face.
Chen Hede now deeply regrets not personally checking on Xu Zhuohua's condition, but instead having Hu Moli take his place. If he had been there when the fire broke out, Xu Zhuohua would definitely not have been trapped.
Chen Hede suddenly thought of something. He looked at the corpse in Cheng Muyun's arms and could still see the fabric of the plain white cheongsam that Hu Moli was wearing.
The fact that it's so slow means that this body isn't Xu Zhuohua's. So where could Xu Zhuohua be?
Chen Hede staggered to his feet and rushed into the depths of the flames. Behind the thick smoke, Chen Hede saw Xu Zhuohua, who had been knocked unconscious by the blast, lying on the ground in a corner. His clothes were soaked, probably because he had washed himself with water.
Chen Hede was overjoyed. He was about to tell Cheng Muyun when he found that Cheng Muyun had already lowered his head heavily. Because he had been in the fire for too long, his body was dehydrated, and he was overwhelmed with grief. He could not hold on any longer.
Chen Hede acted almost without thinking. He rushed to Xu Zhuohua's side, checked her breathing, and confirmed that there were no other injuries on her body. He then covered Xu Zhuohua's face with a wet towel.
He dressed Xu Zhuohua in a fireproof suit, disguising him as an injured member of the fire brigade, and then handed him over to his own people.
"This is Miss Hu Moli, quickly take her to the hospital and let Xinghua take care of her!"
After doing all this, Chen Hede's heart was pounding.
As the fire gradually subsided, he felt unusually hot all over, and his heart felt like it was about to jump out of his chest.
Chen Hede walked towards Cheng Muyun, took off the jewelry that could prove Hu Moli's identity from her body, put it in his pocket, and then tried to pull Cheng Muyun away, but Cheng Muyun hugged the corpse tightly with both arms.
Chen Hede gripped Cheng Muyun's arm tightly, his knuckles turning white from the force, but the other's hand seemed welded to the door frame, and no matter how hard he tried, the arm wouldn't budge.
Chen Hede was sweating profusely, his mind racing as he tried to come up with a solution, when suddenly a teeth-grinding "crunch" sound came from above his head.
In the instant he looked up, he saw only a charred beam, sparks flying, break off and crashing down toward Cheng Muyun!
Without thinking twice, Chen Hede lunged forward, using all his strength to shove Cheng Muyun aside, and then flipped over to shield him beneath him.
Almost at the same second, a deafening roar erupted.
The entire house seemed to have its skeleton removed; the walls collapsed with a roar, and countless burnt wooden beams, broken bricks, and tiles rained down like a storm.
Chen Hede felt a sharp pain in his back before being completely buried by thick, broken wood and bricks.
The surrounding firelight was cut off, darkness instantly swallowed everything, and then consciousness sank into the boundless darkness.
